Marty,From what I have heard a person is considered to be religiously cleansed after being immersed in water according to the common Jewish tenet.Immersion in the name of Jesus differs in that one receives the promise of the holy spirit when one obeys Jesus' teachings to believe and be immersed in water for the forgiveness of your sins.

To all,Perhaps someone should start a thread about self hatred and how it violates the law of love your neighbor as yourself in the Tradition v. Truth thread as this is a doctrinal issue. Gnosticism is a old religion that existed before the council of Nicea. Little is known of the older Jewish-Chistian sects which were not even invited to the concil of Nicea from what I know.
