Hoghead,
I do not believe Adam’s sin is hereditary but I do believe his offspring including Jesus suffered the effects. Jesus was given a way to supersede the effects and he shares is with those that believe.

Hoghead,
You are correct that I do not know much about Augustine or Calvin’s teachings nor do I think much of the original sin doctrine some teach. That is that every human has guilt for Adam’s sin. Instead Adam’s sin separates us from God and Jesus’ act of righteousness reconciles us to him.
I do know that the only way to interpret Scr…[Read more]

I do not know much about Augustine of Hippo’s hypothesis but my words in the first post were also based on Jesus’ word to the Jews where he mentions that anyone that sins is a slave to sin. Since no one outside of the new covenant has the Spirit to walk by it follows that the only thing they have to walk according to is the flesh no…[Read more]

Hoghead1,
The instruction is to walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh and at least some believe flesh is human nature. If so then one does indeed go against their nature but perhaps not their deepest desires. After all, Jesus does promise those that hunger and thirst for righteousness that they will be filled.

Toggle,
There is no question that some of Jesus words are hard to understand, especially as John records them. Sometimes Jesus speaks the word of God as he is carried along by the Spirit and perhaps other times he does what he thinks is best as he walks according to the ways of the Spirit and so may make mistakes that are not sins. After all it…[Read more]

I believe in the teaching that human nature is “totally depraved”. The label is misleading as it essentially means mere humans are slaves to sin and so do its bidding. It is only by receiving the Spirit through faith Jesus is the Christ that one can be truly freed of that bondage.

t8,
Nick, did the man Jesus ever say anything or was he just a shell for God to speak through, (like an avatar)?
Jesus answers your question.
John 5:30Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

I have to disagree with you because Philo did write about the Koine Greek language and its relationship to the logos. John either used those words to teach about the Christ or he and Philo obtained there idea from a similar source.
My point was to reveal that point of view of at least one human from that time period there is no…[Read more]

I believe that words “the Lord, and the king” are speaking of two different individuals though it could be the same individual by two titles. The fact the translators chose not capitalize king leads me to believe they thought it meant two individuals the king of which is obviously David. That also led to me deciding what the…[Read more]

It happens because someone may find the other guy’s arguments so powerful that they cannot present a rational rebuttal. So they decide to cheat and win by downing the opponent’s character instead
As an all statement these words combined with the ones previous are false because obviously that is not why Jesus called the Pha…[Read more]

One point I was attempting to make in the other thread before our communications were became troubled is that Philo claimed that in LXX when theos does not have a direct article preceding it then it is a synonym of the logos (the Word). In John 1:1 John uses the word theos without a direct object preceding it which means according to…[Read more]

There should be no comma between as we do not put a comma between two nouns. It is to short of a list and the conjunction is sufficient by itself.
I just ignore it since it does not change anything except for being an example of poor punctuation use.
I believe that changing the definition of worship from “to honor or respect…[Read more]

I don’t put up with any flaming. When you sounded off above, saying that I embraced foolishness and told untruths, you are unduly attacking my character,

No, I most certainly do not think so.
I believe we agree that calling names serves a righteous function at times.

I am not yet confident I do have it right but I know that the John was not expressing the idea that Jesus was greatest because he was older than John.
For one the past tense verbs trouble me.

hoghead1,
Where do you see Scripture affirming that the worshipped David as God? I Chron. 29:20 onwards? if say, when it says they “prostrated themselves before the Lord and the king,” it simply means they bowed down before King David and also God. “The Lord and the king” here is referring to God and David; it is not saying they are one and…

Then you must believe Philo claimsthe even though he denies it.
Denial of the truth does not change it.
When Philo literally claims the that theos without the article is not God but the Logos and John tells you the same thing with the word the logos is theos and you choose to ignore that parallel then you have willingly embraced…[Read more]

I make it simple for you. The words you utter were that people did not worship King David when Scripture stated they did.
In short your literal words disagreed with Scripture though you claim I believe your intent did not.
That is about as simple as I am capable of making it.
