Here's a question on the flood: what exactly was its purpose? After all, we have had many wicked people since then. Obviously its was not meant to clean the earth of wickedness then. So was it God just pitching a temper tantrum?Seriously, the bible does much injustice to the Almighty.

Quote (Not3in1 @ April 02 2008,00:40)One definition of “magic”: human control of supernatural agencies or the forces of nature.Jesus had access to the supernatural through the Father. The Father worked through Jesus, but I'm not so sure we could stretch that to say Jesus had “control” of these God-given powers.Sorry Kejonn, but I think it's a…[Read more]

I notice you use scientific works that are 30-50 years old when you quote things David. Is that wise in 2008?

Who is to say Nick? As time goes by, more and more are revealing that the bible is better to be taken as metaphor and not literally. They are doing so by showing that many of the events of the bible did not happen as the bible says they did. It is full of legends and stories that may have a basis of truth, but full of embellishments.Think of a…[Read more]

Quote (david @ April 02 2008,00:43)Even today, not too long after houdini, a child asked: “Was houdini real?” When someone is so popular, and has such stories about him, it's easier to be confused.(when someone asks if you're real, this pretty much means you've made it, as far as being famous goes.)Things were written about houdini while he was…[Read more]

From http://earlychristianwritings.com/matthew.htmlIt is the near-universal position of scholarship that the Gospel of Matthew is dependent upon the Gospel of Mark. This position is accepted whether one subscribes to the dominant Two-Source Hypothesis or instead prefers the Farrer-Goulder hypothesis. From http://earlychristianwritings.com/luke.htmlW…[Read more]

There is a “rapture” thread in the believer's section. What I find strangely ironic is that the same people who say the trinity is not in scripture fails to mention that the rapture isn't either.

I think Stu's point is that many of our modern discoveries about hygiene should have already been discovered by the Jews if God truly spoke to them.

Well, GJohn does not agree in too many places with the synoptics (whole different scenes in most of it). Matthew and Luke were based on Mark, which was probably “complete” but would not win as many converts since the neither the virgin birth nor resurrection was mentioned. Pagans love virgin birth and death-rebirth in their deities.

The infamous Tower of Babel story is next on our plate.Gen 11:1 Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.
