Ooh, here's another good one from Wikipedia:Cognitive dissonance is a psychological state that describes the uncomfortable feeling between what one holds to be true and what one knows to be true. Similar to ambivalence, the term cognitive dissonance describes conflicting thoughts or beliefs (cognitions) that occur at the same time, or when engaged…[Read more]

From WikipediaSelf-deception is a process of denying or rationalizing away the relevance, significance, or importance of opposing evidence and logical argument. It has been argued that humans are, without exception, highly susceptible to self-deception, as everyone has emotional attachments to beliefs, which in some cases may be irrational. No, “blind faith”. That is a faith that looks past the obvious bad parts of the bible to pretend they don't exist. It is a faith that never asks questions.

Reminds me of the early RCC and their efforts to destroy any religious text about Jesus which did not forward their own agenda.

Quote (david @ April 15 2008,00:15)“almost forgotten.”–zoroaster.net or whatever. From that site:Why Zarathustra’s Philosophy was gradually Forgotten? The answer to this question is quite clear. I agree with Cato Mandy. If we are left with only the bible to know God, then I'm afraid God is not a likable character. Fortunately, all you need to realize is that the bible is an ancient book written by men with biases. There is some good to be found therein, but also much that is bad. The same can be said of any religious text — they are all…[Read more]

Judging in what way? I just say it is sad that some people are missing the joys of life by encasing themselves in a blind faith that denies the reality around them.

Quote (t8 @ April 15 2008,05:35)From what I can tell, you once knew him (Yahweh) and now speak badly of him or you never knew him to begin with.Upon reflection, I will agree with this. I didn't really know Yahweh until I studied more of the OT.

Tim,Yahweh was a war god. But that was just the way of the world back then. People killed each other because real estate agents hadn't come along. So the easiest way to obtain land was to kill those who lived on it. They still do in some parts of the world.
