They ate of necessity. When Yashua healed on the sabbath, he saved a life. When your “ox was in the ditch” (you chose to work on a Sabbath), was this an absolute necessity?

Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Mat 5:18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Mat 5:19 …

The Gospel of John (as well as the epistles attributed to the same author) seems to blur “ownership” of commandments. Let's look:
Mat 5:18 “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Mat 5:19 “Whoever then annuls one of the least of these…

I have started a new thread called Sabbath, When & How? in the “Scripture & Biblical Doctrine” section. Please redirect your responses on Sabbath there so this thread can be returned to the original topic, celebrating birthdays. Thanks!

Another oddity I noted about John is that Yashua seemed to be less “Jewish” in this Gospel. Note the way he spoke of the Law:
Joh 8:17 “Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. Joh 10:34 Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS'? Joh 15:25 “But they have done this to…

Really?
1Ki 13:15 Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.” 1Ki 13:16 He said, “I cannot return with you, nor go with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place. 1Ki 13:17 “For a command came to me by the word of the LORD, 'You shall eat no bread, nor drink water there; do not return by going the way which you…

As far as I can tell, there was no time Yahshua was ever cast out of the synagogue.

More clues that John was perhaps not the writer
Joh 9:22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue. Joh 12:42 Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing…

Ken,I can see you are a hard nut. That is OK, we are all unique. But the messenger is supposed to pass on the message, not make comments when the message is not accepted. So if you call yourself a messenger, pass on the message alone and not extra comments that turn people away. For instance, if you believe the Sabbath is evening Friday to evening…[Read more]

Not3,My lack of celebration had nothing to do with biblical reasons. I just don't feel that birthdays are special in my own life. I will give gifts and celebrate others' birthdays, but I do not make a big deal over my own. Just another day IMO.

Ken,Yes, I believe that the message is correct. I just think you do need to work on the method of delivery so you can be more like Yahshua. Study John 4 for more details.I can understand your statement of not being a “smooth talker”. But is that a holdover from the “old man”? The “new man” must continue to be put on the wheel of the “potter” to be…[Read more]

Ken,I don't think you are pointing the finger at me. I too want to please God. There are so many things I took for granted in 20+ years. For some time lately I had been unhappy because I was missing something, and now that I have shed myself of the Trinity doctrine, I have really been desiring to see more ways to develop my love relationship with…[Read more]

Another “hint” that the writer of GoJ might not be the Apostle John:
Jhn 21:20 Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had leaned back on His bosom at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”Jhn 21:21 So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?”Jhn…

Charity,I read earlier on another site where someone tried to make the case that Lazarus wrote the Gospel of John. The simplest reason they had was the following verses
Jhn 11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.Jhn 19:26 When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He *said to His mother,…
