Interesting study. There are at least 400+ times the two words YHVH and Elohim are used in conjunction in the OT. That is “YHVH Elohim” or in modern translations, “LORD God”. Since “kurios” came to replace YHVH in the Septuagint and “kurios” is used for Lord in the NT, is Yeshua ever once called “kurios theos”? I think that would be the true test…[Read more]

MrsIM,Well, WJ told me what denomination he was at one time and I'm fairly certain they worship corporately on Sundays. In any case, here are the verses you asked about:
Rom 14:5 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. Rom 14:6 He who observes the day, o…

2Ti 3:14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 2Ti 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2Ti 3:16…

Ken,I really think the emphasis for Col 2:16 is ANY Sabbath day. I know where you are coming from, but there are separations of the ideas by “or”. The new converts at Colossae had likely been observing Jewish holidays and other things, and the locals were giving them a hard time for doing so. I personally see nothing wrong with observing ANY…[Read more]

WJ,And your point is fairly valid in that the Septuagint translators eventually eliminated YHWH from the manuscripts. There is much evidence that the earliest copies still had the Tetragrammaton when Greek writing Jews were the scribes. However, as time passed and the Septuagint fell out of favor with Jews, Christians who did not realize the value…[Read more]

WJ,I just had to reply to this one because it is so obvious: Mat 12:29 is quoted from the Septuagint, which came to replace YHWH or YHVH with “kyrios”. You know that the original Hebrew phrase was “YHWH our God is one YHWH”.

Here is a question for some of you. I have a regular secular job from Monday to Friday. What if I were to volunteer my time to a local mission or something similar on Saturday? Or if I participated in a prison ministry? This would be “work” per se, but I think we can see that Yeshua “worked” in a similar fashion on the Sabbath. That is, he was…[Read more]
