This is the case all throughout the Bible – and teaching people to accept this undeniable scriptural truth instead of being afraid of it is the reason I began this thread
Hi Mike, I like way your analytic replies. Yes Bible is full multiple gods of nations and Yahweh, the one God of Israelites.
Deut 10:17 For the Lord your God is God of gods an…

Polytheism, Monolatry and Monotheism
The concepts monotheism and polytheism are two extreme ends. Although their general definition is commonly accepted, in real religions they are met in various forms. There is no single and pure form of monotheism or polytheism. Pure forms are only theoretical concepts. All ANE religions have features of both…[Read more]

One ideological struggle unveiled by biblical texts was between those who allowed room for the existence
of deities in addition to Yahweh and others who denied the existence of other divine beings. These competing ideologies are unequivocally displayed beside one another in Psalm 96.4–5: “For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is t…[Read more]gadam123 replied to the topic The Many Gods of the Bible in the forum Scriptural Teachings 2 years, 7 months ago
Listen again very closely…
1. The Bible – FROM BEGINNING TO END – teaches about many gods, and one Most High God Yahweh whom we are to worship and serve.
That’s it. There is no number 2. I challenge you to show me from scripture that the Bible slowly changed from the existence of many gods and one Most High Creator God, and started teaching t…

Deut 32:8 tells of how Yahweh assigned various gods to watch over various nations, and (many years later) created the nation of Israel from Abram as His very own portion of the peoples of the earth. These other gods that Yahweh assigned to the various nations were not supposed to act as the gods of those people, but to watch over them and teach…

So you see, Adam, there was never any “CHANGE” from polytheism to monotheism in the Bible. It is, from start to finish, the account of one Most High God, the physical world and people that He created, and the other gods that He had created and assigned to teach His humans righteousness, but they taught them evil instead.
From beginning to end,…

Monolatry and Monotheism in the Hebrew Bible
In the present form of the Hebrew Bible, before they constitute a sovereign nation within the land of Canaan, the biblical community of Israel agrees at Mt Sinai/Mt Horeb to worship Yahweh ahead of any other gods and not to make any divine images. A small number of texts, found primarily in the…[Read more]

Hello Mike,
You are right in stating that our Bible certainly having the verses about multiple gods which I call Polytheism. For example 2 Kgs 23:
4 The king commanded the high priest Hilkiah, the priests of the second order, and the guardians of the threshold to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels made for Baal, for Asherah, an…

Early Israelite religion grew out of earlier religions, “pagan” religions, just as they had done. And out of it, eventually, grew the more modern God of late Israelite religion (Judaism), a single, transcendent all-powerful, all-knowing God—the God of Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
I have already given references for such evolutions in my earli…[Read more]

The funniest part is that your statement above contradicts your own claim that Deut 32:8-9 speaks of the Canaanite god El as the Most High, and as Yahweh as one of the many subservient local tribal gods under El!
Clanging Cymbal, how on earth can you make that claim, while also claiming that the three Abrahamic religions don’t teach of many go…

Yahweh and the Kenite theory
The hypothesis that the worship of Yahweh was learned by Moses from the Kenites or Midianites, among
whom he dwelt after his flight from Egypt was first suggested by Ghillany, writing under the pseudonym of Von der Al. It has found the support of Tiele, Stade, Von Gall, Budde, Guthe, Cheyne, H. P. YAHWEH AND EL
Were Yahweh and El originally the same Deity or not?
What was the relationship between Yahweh and the Canaanite god El? In the Old Testament Yahweh is frequently called El. The question is raised whether Yahweh was a form of the god El from the beginning or whether they were separate deities who only became equated later. The Old…[Read more]

The Sons of El (God)
In the Old Testament there appears the concept of Yahweh’s having a heavenly court, the sons of God. They are referred to variously as the ‘sons of God’ (bene ha’ elohim, Gen. 6.2, 4; Job 1.6, 2.2; or bene ‘

Hi Mike, thanks for your replies to my posts. But I am sorry to say that I am not here to take any challenges on these ancient religious texts.

Yahweh of Teman at Kuntillet Ajrud
The title “Yahweh of Teman” is found outside the Old Testament at Kuntillet Ajrud, and this adds historical weight to the idea that Yahweh with the South were associated early on. Kuntillet ʿAjrud (AKA Horvat Teman) is a small, one-period site situated between the southern Negev and the eastern Sinai peni…[Read more]
