Not3 : I agree with you on the birthdays, but if you were to find out that the candles on the cake were originated from a PAGAN practiced and common people adopted the pagan custom do you think JESUS would use the candles on the cake?

Hi 942 I agree with some but for me the quest still remains as far as the candles and their meaning. If I cannot find out for a fact that they were used with pagan purposes I will still refrain from using them just in case. I can still celebrate the birthday but without candles it is ok, at least I can tell my kids what I have learned. Thank…[Read more]

I found a good scripture for this issue. My thing would be to decide if the candles are definitely of pagan origin.2 corinthians 6: 14-1814 Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? 15 Further, what harmony is there between Christ and…[Read more]

If it is proven that the cake candles are directly a result of a pagan celebration, I would not use them. that would be morally wrong. If there is proof of a pagan tradition in relation to the cake in a birthday, it would not be right to use it. But if there is no paganism associated with having a birthday cake then, it would be ok, just dont use…[Read more]

What I have learned is this: I dont have a bible to find the right scriptures right now, but my understanding is: first, it is well documented that pagan celebrations were condemned by God. The ritual of lighting the candles on the cake are supposed to have pagan origins. there is a scripture that says something like this: ''…What does light…[Read more]

Any chance that these customs were particularly of those times? Any chance that JESUS had change these way of thinking? Any chance Jesus did not feel the same way as Paul? Again, Paul was an inperfect human, any chance this was his own opinion based on the customs of those times? Dont get me wrong , again I want to clarify, I do agree there has to…[Read more]

Kejohn Thank you for your comment. I agree with you. I think history and traditions are more relevant to this issue than anything else… is the one that makes more sense to me .:) Like I said before, GOD made it very clear about the man being the head. chain of command. I am not arguing that at all. I am expressing some skepticism toward…[Read more]

Hi everyone: I still dont get it. Did JESUS ever said anything to that effect : that women should not do all those things Paul is saying? I know for a fact that Jehova did not intend for women to be treated less He did not intend for man to have slaves either. But HE ALLOWED because of man's selfishness. The Apostoles were imperfect humans too,…[Read more]

Kejohn I did not mean to imply or say that you thought it was prejudice. that was my opinion. ''I agree with you that it was a little odd'' is what I meant also, I thought that it soinded prejudiced. sorry about my grammar

Thank you all for your responses: I am not questioning God, I question man. even Paul, he admits he is far from perfect. in TIMOTHY 2:11-15 it talks about women keeping in silence… etc. Is it because of man's pride? or, because of the angels? Did Jesus ever say anything to that effect? If Jesus said it, I will not question it, if only the…[Read more]

I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THE WAY WOMEN ARE VIEWED IN THE SCRIPTURES IS NOT RIGHT. CAN SOMEBODY CLARIFY ME HOW MUCH OF THIS VIEW IS RELEVANT TO OUR TIMES? I WAS READING 1 TIMOTHY LAST NIGHT AND IT REALLY BOTHER ME. THAT IS WHY I DONT LIKE TO READ SOME OF THE OLD TESTAMENT. I DONT LIKE THAT MEN WERE ALLOWED TO TREAT WOMEN LIKE POSSESSIONS.
