Quote Ok, Kenrchs comments aside, why do most modern scholars believe that this book is not actually written by Enoch? Of course, I don't believe anything to be true just because most scholars believe it. But still, I'd like to know their reasons.Nick, you must know some of the reasons.

Why do you always have to go there? Play the JW card.ECCLESIASTES 12:12-13“…..my son, take a warning: To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion is wearisome to the flesh. The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the God and keep his commandments. For this is the whole of man.”There's a lot of…[Read more]

Why is it called Gehenna? Where did that word come from? It's not “work.” I already know the answer. But let's let everyone know. It is part of the scripture you keep repeating as your ultimate understanding of this.

Quote Hi david,So no evidence? Well I do have evidence that the canon of today was not “chosen” by catholicism as you say. See above, for example. As for the canon being the product of the holy spirit, what would you like as evidence? The Bible doesn't contradict itself, as you know. If we try to add another book to the mix, it would have to…[Read more]

Quote Hi david,Is the canon chosen by catholicism chosen also for you?It wasn't really chosen by catholicism. They were stating what was already commonly believed. See “new testament canon” thread.david

From elsewhere, in the “Gerneal questions” section:Quote Hi david,Is the canon chosen by catholicism chosen also for you? I see. You actually do think that the Bibles we have today are Catholic Bibles, or the Canon anyway. I disagree.david

Yes, verse 19. Sorry. The “soul” in the case of matthew 10:28 seems to be the person’s God-given title to be a living being. Men cannot blot the person out of God’s provision and so make it impossible for him to live again. Nick, what is Gehenna? Where did the word come from? What is the history? Let's just have a quick review.david

Oh, is that what you are disagreeing with? So you don't think that God's spirit had a part in defining the conon of “God's Word.” I guess you woudn't, would you? Otherwise, why would these non-biblical books that you rely on not be included? My point was not to “prove” that the holy spirit had defined the canon, but rather to point out that…[Read more]

As I had also mentioned: Quote Another use of this word is the life of the person or animal. 1 Tim 6:9 speaks of the “real life,” or the “life that is truly life,” or the life that is life indeed, etc.We must take what Jesus said in a way that agrees with the whole Bible.Quote Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soulThe…[Read more]

What I'm saying Nick, is that the Roman Catholic Church did not create the Bible. If I wanted to, I could put down a list of the books I considered to be God's Word. And if that list happens to match the ones people today considers to be inspired, does that mean I am the one who decided which books were Biblical? You can look at historians…[Read more]

Hi Oxy. How are you?I have yet to find the phrase “immortal soul” in my Bible. I do find at least a dozen places that speak of souls “dieing,” being “destroyed,” being “killed,” etc.Adam “the man came to BE a living soul.” (The Bible, Gen 2:7)So it seems that Adam WAS a soul. And we know that Adam died. So it seems that Adam, as a soul, was…[Read more]

Is this book attributed to Enoch? And does it not basically begin by saying: “Enoch, a righteous man….”Looking through the Bible, I see candor, humility. Unless I am misunderstanding, this is not candor. It's also odd that such a string of angels would be mentioned by name, when “God's Word” seems to avoid this. Only 2 names are mentioned in…[Read more]

I was just looking up the book of Enoch on Wickepedia. It says that: “Most modern scholars consider the Enochic literature to be pseudepigraphal.” But it doesn't say why most scholars believe that this book's authorship has been wrongly attributed. What are the reasons why most believe this?Anyone?

The Roman Catholic Church claims responsibility for the decision as to which books should be included in the Bible canon, and reference is made to the Council of Carthage (397 C.E.), where a catalog of books was formulated. The opposite is true, however, because the canon, including the list of books making up the Christian Greek Scriptures, was…[Read more]

Can we actually be certain that Jude quoted from the book of Enoch?Jude may have quoted a common source, a reliable tradition handed down from antiquity.
