Quote David,This is the John 8:58 thread. In John 8:58, the Jews tried to stone him. I'd say that's relevant. In any event, we know why the Jews tried to stone him. “For blasphemy. And because You, being a man, make Yourself out God.” -John 10:33. I know it's another chapter, but do you really think the Jews came up with a different reason…[Read more]

I'm sorry, what does that scripture say?
david replied to the topic Mat 28:19 in the forum Scriptural Teachings 19 years, 6 months ago
Quote Well, David, some times it obviously does mean worship, as in Hebrews 1:6. So then it clearly means that Jesus is God.Could you please explain why it is “obvious” to you that this is the case? It's not obvious to all Bible translators, for example:“let them bow before him.” (YLT) “pay homage to.” (NEB)

Quote David,So the Jews tried to stone Him for claiming to be the Messiah?Yes. Definitely. If you claimed to be the Messiah, there are certain countries that would stone you.Other countries, you'd be put in certain institutions. Other countries, beat up, etc.So, yes, without question. But, there are other threads were this could be discussed.

Quote So I will concede that it can mean to kneel before a king or to show respect. But it obviously also can mean worship, and as Revelation 22:9 says, worship that belongs to God alone.Right, and so it is a very week argument to say that Jesus is worshiped, when one understands that that is simply how the translator of that Bible decided to…[Read more]

Quote The same word “proskuneo” is applied to the Father also, does that mean they were not worshipping the Father? No, obviously not. But I never said this, did I? What I DID SAY is that that word is also applied to humans and it's used at other places where “worship” is obviously not what the Bible is referring to. (See Mark 15:19)Quote This is…[Read more]

Adam says:There is absolutely no connection between Exo 3.14 & John 8.58. The simplest proof of this is to look at the Greek of Exo 3.14 in the LXX. that is, the Septuagint, which is the Hebrew scriptures translated into Greek. He says:Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, ego eimi ho ohn: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel,…[Read more]

Quote The KJV I believe is one of the better translations available, though I use several. So you would agree with it when it says at Ps 83:18 that “Jehovah” alone is the most high?If you so fondly cling to the KJV and it says that Jehovah is the most high, I'm curious why you are not telling others this? Quote I do know that the same Greek word is used in Hebrews 1:6 and Revelation 22:9. Yes, it is the exact same greek word, and that word has a few meanings, of which the translator based on his bias or based on his understanding of the rest of the scripatures has to determine which way to translate it. I feel very strongly people don't understand the word “God.” We have to look at every way that the Bible uses that word to understand it. Certain references seem to indicate that the word “god” means “mighty or strong or powerful one.”Hence, the Israelite judges were mighty compared to the other Israelites. The angels are mighty ones (gods)…[Read more]

As T8 indicated, everlasting life is mentioned in the Bible as a gift for those who are deserving. It's not something everyone just has. There is no immortal soul. If there were, there would be no need for the resurrection. So what of T8's comment.

Quote 1=1 or 3=3 how do you get 1=3?A certain pope called it a “mystery.” A mystery indeed, even to the Bible writers, who apparently forgot to mention it.
