“Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” (Matthew 24:3; Mark 13:1-4)The destruction of Jerusalem’s temple and the end of the Jewish system of things were not the same as the time of Christ’s presence and of the conclusion of the whole world system of things.…[Read more]

Note that Matthew 24:29-31 foretells that (1) the Son of man comes, (2) this coming will be with great glory, (3) the angels will be with him, and (4) all the tribes of the earth will see him. Jesus repeats these elements in the parable of the sheep and the goats. (Matthew 25:31-46) Hence, we can conclude that this parable deals with the time,…[Read more]

Quote If you do not believe in Jesus because you feel there is a lack of evidence he existed, I challenge you to prove that Rabbi Gamaliel (Gamaliel the Elder) was a real person.

Luke refers (1:1-3) to previous accounts (plural) of the gospel and of his as a more ordered one, so his can neither be first or second. Some scholars are now coming full circle and accepting an early Matthew. For example: J.B.Orchard, Matthew, Luke and Mark, 1976 John Wenham, Redating Matthew, Mark and Luke, H&S, 1991 John A.T.Robinson,…[Read more]

Modern scholars normally relegate Matthew and indeed the other gospels to after the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. W H Y
??This is due to their denial of prophecy when Jesus' predicts the fall of Jerusalem. For them to believe that it was written before this date, they'd have to recognize that Jesus' prophecy was true.david replied to the topic Gospel of Matthew in the forum Scriptural Teachings 18 years, 11 months ago
Eusebius, writing in the 3rd century, favoured 41 A.D. as the time of writing of Matthew.Subscriptions in a number of manuscripts later than the tenth century say that this Gospel was written about the eighth year after Jesus’ ascension. (c. 41 C.E.). This does not conflict with the internal evidence, since the account ends with Jesus’ com…[Read more]

Quote As I've said more than once (I think I have) I don't doubt the existence of a historical Jesus, I just doubt that a man who supposedly did all of the things in the Christian bible that would have drawn attention form every historian in the area would have made it into the annuls of history. –towshab. It would have “drawn attention from every…[Read more]

Quote Perhaps I have missed it, but surely the Jewish tradition has many nasty practices on which Towshab could be challenged. How about the non-consentual infant mutillation that is circumcision? Quote No, I think you are distracting from the main point. Darwin had contemporaries who wrote about him from personal contact with him. Jesus didn’t. I think you're in the wrong thread.
