No, most of the books I read have known authors and dates when written or published. Though some like the I Ching have sketchy backgrounds and arguments as to who the original authors were and who translated them in a correct fashion; in this they are much like scripture. What they all have in common both my so called books on philosophy and…[Read more]

Scripture is a collection not a solitary work. They were written over many years in many languages by many anonymous authors. They were translated and compiled by men often with political agendas. Some works are poetry and songs and obvious allegory so are difficult to take at face value. That some are inspired I have no doubt, yet others seem…[Read more]

Stuart and I have had this discussion before and we both agree that God cannot be proved or disproved as his nature is essentially undefined. As the creator of the universe he is outside of its bounds so there can be no valid proof one way or another. I choose to see evidence and Stuart does not, but proof is not available nor likely ever to c…[Read more]

Personally I find the whole idea of virgin birth a sales job by early gentile Christians designed to make Jesus more acceptable to the Romans who often viewed their heroes or leaders as having some sort of divine parentage. Now parthenogenesis is possible, it is found in the natural world but only in lower orders of life. “Parthenogenesis is a p…[Read more]

Pedophiles are found in both homo and hetero people and don't involve consenting relations between adults so they are superfluous to this discussion. As far as whether homosexual relations are natural well it appears so for they appear in both human and animal kingdoms and studies have shown their percentages across human populations tends to be…[Read more]

“Research suggests that the homosexual orientation is in place very early in the life cycle, possibly even before birth. It is found in about ten percent of the population, a figure which is surprisingly constant across cultures, irrespective of the different moral values and standards of a particular culture.” Statement on Homosexuality, American…[Read more]

The key I feel is global population growth. Historically population was controlled through migration, disease, famine and war. When the population got too large for an area to handle one of these forces would come to fore. Science and technology modified the mix by increasing food production and treating illnessess allowing for an ever…[Read more]

Paladin,I think it is rather absurd to view homosexuality as a choice. Having sex is a choice but your orientation is not. I do not ever remember a time when I did not like women, even as small child of 4-5 well before it was overtly sexual. Can you really imagine that one day you will decide to start wanting men? Most homosexuals likewise…[Read more]

Some thoughts:1. I believe that sexual orientation is similar to handedness; most people are born right handed, a minority are left handed and an even smaller number have no dominance or ambidextrous. Most of us are heterosexual, a minority are homosexual and some are bi-sexual. I believe in most cases this is not a choice but a condition of…[Read more]

Thank You Theodore, respectful, thoughtful dialogue is what I expect from your posts and I see that this hasn't changed. As to the issue, if God is perfect and infallible, and he designed and created man, then man's imperfections and faults were evidently part of the design and quite predictable. In other words, everything would happen as it was…[Read more]

What judgements were made? I asked a question. Is God infallible? I believe he is, I believe God is incapable of mistake: he is all knowing, all powerfull. As such he would have no grief or regret for everything he does is good and with purpose. Yet Genesis clearly expresses that God regreted making man and expressed his desire to “wipe…[Read more]

Death I think is a change in your state of being, your physical body stops functioning and your being moves to another level. I believe separation from God is myth and essentially impossible, we can blind ourselves and refuse to see, but he is always there if we choose to look. If it is absurd and perhaps it is, I am only pointing out what I see. I think there is ample evidence to suggest that OT scripture supports the existence of what they call gods and that these so called gods are apparently neither human, angels or demons. So what are they, I certainly don't know, but it is interesting to speculate; perhaps they…[Read more]

My point was that Elohim are not angels, but equates more closely with gods (note the small g), this supports arguments that the early Hebrews were essentially henotheistic, where God is essentially an OverGod or as mentioned elsewhere God of gods. So how can you have the title of God of gods if there are no gods.
Cato replied to the topic Thou shall have no other gods before me in the forum Scriptural Teachings 15 years, 4 months ago
Nick,I think you missed the whole point here. What I am speculating on is whether the Bible gives support to the concept of beings called therein gods (note the small g), who are not human, angels or demons. I think the references I gave point that Biblical authors evidently did lean in that direction. If not, then many of the scriptures I qu…[Read more]

Perhaps the plural refers to other gods of a lesser nature? Elohim are not angels so who are they?
