Denominations are indicative of the lack of clarity in scripture. If the Bible was truly God's word and not that of men trying to guess same, then I would imagine that the truth therein would be more evident and we would have less division in interpretation.

Yes, perhaps when God is speaking in the plural he could be refering to aspects of his own being.  Yet the fact remains that scripture is markedly short in describing any divine aspects as female when it obviously has no problem in naming divine aspects male.  My point is that scripture was written by men who may have had a bias against the e…[Read more]

The idea of hate crime laws are to enforce greater punishment (and hopefully, but doubtedly deter) those crimes that tend to cause social disruption out of proportion to the actual incident.  In a practical sense it is to promote social cohesion, in a political sense it is often used to curry favor with a particular group.  As a matter of j…[Read more]

As far as the mental illness debate let me say this, I don't believe mental illnesses are caused by demons.  Having said this however, I do believe that there are non-human spirits of evil nature, and demons are as good a word as any to apply to them.  If they would impact any of us at all on this physical plane of existence who would be the m…[Read more]

I see Islam as no different then Christianity in that they are both revealed religions, with scripture purported to be God's word and so answers and justifications for all manners of behaviour are based on the interpretation of these supposedly Holy texts.  So for the Koran I answer the same as I would for the Bible in the words of Thomas Payne,…[Read more]

In verse 27 when God uses the singular, it is “his” image, clearly male.  Also God is referred to as the Father many times, where is God the Mother ever used? While I can buy God is beyond sex or the divisions thereof, I don't think the writers of scripture viewed the Godhead as other then male.  Balance, in the universe yes, but in scripture c…[Read more]

In 1803 Thomas Jefferson wrote the following in a letter concerning his religious views:”JESUS.In this state of things among the Jews, Jesus appeared. His parentage was obscure; his condition poor; his education null; his natural endowments great; his life correct and innocent. He was meek, benevolent, patient, firm, disinterested, and of the…[Read more]

I think it is not a matter of trusting God, for I most certainly do. What I don't trust is people or books that tell me what God's will is. I don't trust that creator of the entire universe would have a favorite people (conveniently the people who wrote the scripture in the first place) much less be concerned with minor dietary habits. People…[Read more]

Despite people's anecdotal evidence of spiritual healing, only a fool would rely on such without looking for more temporal help as well.  If your problem is religious obsession why rely only on that very same source of obsession for a cure?  Scrupulosity is usually treated by cognitive behavior therapy, not drugs.  In the United Kingdom, the Na…[Read more]

RokkaMan, while I admire your obvious enthusiasm, I think looking for meaning in hidden Bible codes is like looking for meaning in the quatrains of Nostrodamus; the problem is everyone sees what they want to see and supporting evidence is subjective and interpretive in the extreme.  As for the Bible, as compiled, it hardly is, in my opinion, a…[Read more]
