Hi,
Jn 13
3Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;4He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
Jesus told us to do this.
Who does it?
The Catholics do it as a ritual once a year.
I think it symbolises forgiveness and 94 thinks humility.Any other ideas?
March 5, 2009 at 1:26 am#124139NickHassanParticipantHi,
Jesus told men to break bread in memory of him and scripture records in Acts that they did so.
No mention of foot washing though.March 5, 2009 at 1:28 am#124140NickHassanParticipantooops,
Wrong again.
1 Timothy 5:10
Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.March 5, 2009 at 4:44 am#124168942767ParticipantHi:

But Jesus said i have set you an (example). Its the example we need to focus on , not the ritual. this example is to serve one another in humility and love for each other. To just do it once a year is useless , Jesus was not telling them to do that once a year as many assume but it should be a way of life we need to live every day of our lives, this spirit of humility and service is the great calling of Christ Jesus. IMO
love and peace to you all……………………………gene
March 7, 2009 at 1:06 am#124465wild_olive_branchParticipantblessings gene,
your words are fruitful, so do you also apply this to the bread and wine or any other 'ritual' the church partakes in throughout the year?
your reply will be aniticipated, much love.
March 7, 2009 at 1:27 pm#124493wild_olive_branchParticipanteven though gene you feel it is a ritual, deep in my heart i believe it is testimony, at first i was going to have the foot washing inside the home, now i will have it outside my home, so any who pass may join.
it is time.
much love
March 7, 2009 at 4:49 pm#124498GeneBalthropParticipantwob…………But being a humble servant to all is a greater testimony, but if you feel that it's important to you to do this then by all means do it , but make sure yours doing it not to be seen of men, but in humility to God Brother or you will not be blessed. Weight you true motives.
peace and love to you and yours, enjoy the passover it is a picture of our deliverance BY The Father through Christ………………………..gene

March 9, 2009 at 11:35 pm#124634wild_olive_branchParticipantgene, blessings to you and yours also, passover is one of my favorite.
i do know what you say about what you do in secret, your father will reward you openly, AMEN..my cup runneth over. what i have been feeling of late is more of letting my light shine, not hiding it under a bushel, i do not have any icon's on my vehicle, in my home or anywhere to show that i worship the true and living Yah, what i have are my works.
i so tired of seeing/hearing such things of this world, at times i feel i am going to go deaf or blind, as my heart aches not to hear or see these things. i so much want to see the son of man, and not to see the things that will come to pass.
when i was younger i partook of the bread and wine, but when it becomes time to partake as of late, i have something against my brother/sister and cannot partake, for we are told.
one day i pray that my heart will be able to partake, i could only image the uplifting it can bring to ones that partake.much love and peace to you and yours also gene, your sister in Christ.
March 10, 2009 at 3:18 am#124649GeneBalthropParticipantWOB…………..we truly has much to be thankful for sis, we all have more going for us then we think i believe, not because of us but because of who the Father is.
love and peace to you and yours…………………………….gene

The washing of the feet is also about forgiveness.February 18, 2012 at 2:47 am#279084WakeupParticipantHi nick.
When the feet are clean, the whole body will be clean; meaning: if you watch your steps,( dont step on dirt) it wont lead you to sin.
wakeup.
February 18, 2012 at 5:00 am#279105NickHassanParticipantHi WU,
No if your whole body is washed[forgiven-baptism is for the forgiveness of sin] then all we have to do is wash our feet.We all sin daily walking in a sinful world but Lord Jesus is willing for cleanse us-[1Jn1-2]
March 20, 2012 at 9:39 pm#286418NickHassanParticipantHi,
Peter spoke at pentecost of the need to be baptised in the Name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin. This teaching has fallen into general disrepute and few obey it.
Yet only Jesus was judged to not have needed to be baptised by John as he was sinless.
Can anyone else claim this? When you are baptised you are clothed with Christ. Gal 3.27. Will they be found naked?
Unfortunately most rely on some miraculous manifestation they have enjoyed as their witness.[1Jn5]
But miracles are no seal of salvation. Mt 7.22

Forgiveness is the key.

Hi GB,
The bread is the body and the wine is the blood poured out on Calvary. To partake of these and to share in doing so is a demonstration that we are one in his united body with him and our brothers.
May 6, 2014 at 10:49 pm#380865NickHassanParticipantHi,
.1 Corinthians 10:17
For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.December 19, 2017 at 8:16 am#820171NickHassanParticipantHi,
To wash the feet of our brothers is to forgive them
just as baptism is involved in restoring our relationship with the Father
