Hi KW,
Is good fruit agreement with your nonscriptural beliefs?
Why?June 30, 2010 at 4:00 am#200882kerwinParticipantGene,
I posted this before but the post did not apear. If this is a duplicate then I am sorry.
I agree that people need to learn what a spirit is and it seems difficult for them to learn. I myself am still learning.

John 5:39-40 is the scripture I was applying to you. It is a rebuke you should be careful to heed.

The spirit of man is not unclean.
The soul can be called spirit and that confuses folk.
It can house all manner of mischief but was designed to house the Spirit of GodApril 30, 2014 at 1:39 pm#380131GeneBalthropParticipantNick………..I view a “LIVING SOUL” as a body with Living Spirit in it. It is the Spirit that activates the Body causing it to live. I see the word Soul as a Body and Spirit. Mystery religion make a person consist of a Body, Spirit and a Soul. I have found no scriptural evidence for that assumption. The confusion comes i believe from scriptures that mix up the word Soul with Spirit. Like where Jesus said fear not them that can kill the body but after that can do no more , but dear him who can destroy “BOTH” body and Soul/Spirit in hell (GRAVE). if you look up the Greek word for soul used there you will see it means spirit, but even if the word Soul fits, it still show the Grave is where it is “DESTROYED” But God can resurrect a Body and add spirit back into it and we can become living SOULS again even after death.
This is also a reason i say when a man is dead and his body is in the grave he no longer exists as a living Soul in any form, a body must be resurrected by God and Living Spirit added back into it in order for a person to become a living Soul again. The word Soul to me mean the completer being, not just part of one. Spirit gives us cognate awareness and that is what life is, i think therefore i am and again, what knows a man save (or except) the spirit of man that is in him
So Body and Spirit in it make a “LIVING SOUL” Just as said in Genesis. IMO

Heb 4
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.April 30, 2014 at 6:36 pm#380142NickHassanParticipantHi GB,
Yes when a man's spirit leaves his body he is dead.Jas 2
6 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.April 30, 2014 at 6:37 pm#380143NickHassanParticipantHi GB,
And that spirit can returnLk 8
54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
April 30, 2014 at 6:39 pm#380144NickHassanParticipantHi GB,
But that relates to being raised from the dead in our original body.
But that is not our hopeThe faithful Holy Spirit abides in our soul, if we have been given the Spirit, and raises up in a new house. [2cor 5]
April 30, 2014 at 6:45 pm#380145NickHassanParticipantHi GB,
Jonah died in the fish.
The Spirit of prophecy in him gave him life againJonah
2 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
April 30, 2014 at 6:53 pm#380146NickHassanParticipantHi GB,
Jesus spoke of the death and resurrection of Jonah as a sign of his own.
Luke 11:29
As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah.Luke 11:30
For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. So if he died in the fish and his spirit returned to God how was he able to pray?

Ps 139
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
can a body do these things?

1 Thessalonians 5:23
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This speaks of the physical, soulish, and spiritual parts of man being preserved blameless unto the coming of the Jesus. It sounds like the opposite can happen.

Hi Kerwin:The opposite can happen if someone decides that they do not want to be kept.
He has said that “he will never leave us nor forsake us”.
But, yes, we can forsake him. It would be a bad decision on someone's part to do this, but we have a choice.
