Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. The word for worship here is “proskuneo”. It is the same word in the following scripture.
Revelation 19:4
And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
t8 the word “proskuneo” is never used by any Apostle or follower of Christ to any man or being other than the Father and Jesus. Maybe you can cite another example that is better than the one you have? You will have to do better than Rev 3:9 because Jesus said that “they would worship BEFORE their feet”, not worship them.
In every case in the scriptures where a saint began to “proskuneo” another it was discouraged by the recipient except by Jesus. Wonder why?
Note also that Jesus used the same word “proskuneo” for the true worship to the Father in John 4. Why did he do that when that is the same word the writers used for all the times others worshipped him? John could have used another word, right?
Also you might do a word study and you will see it is the same word used for worship in the Temple!

Is PROSKUNEO the kind of worship you should offer God?
Jn4 suggests a better option.October 21, 2009 at 5:56 pm#152603Worshipping JesusParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ Oct. 21 2009,13:51) Hi WJ.

John 4 uses the word “PROSKUNEO' for the true worship to the Father!WJ

So worship in spirit and truth is what Jesus said true worshipers should offer to the Father.
But you have adapted his words to apply them to the Teacher instead?October 21, 2009 at 7:36 pm#152626Worshipping JesusParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ Oct. 21 2009,14:30) Hi WJ,

NHNo the inspired writers of the Gospels used the word in every case Jesus was being worshipped by his followers!

October 21, 2009 at 7:39 pm#152627Not3in1ParticipantInteresting thread title.
I did a word study a few years back and I remember that FATHER is the “source” of his offspring; that is to say, he provides what is needed.
I pieced together that this is why Jesus can be both the offspring of David and the source (because he is part of the Father, God's literal Son).

This hits me kinda funny this morning….knowing Jesus…..he never wanted to be worshiped!Certainly while he walked the earth he didn't have a desire for worship – He pointed the way to worship the Father (the One true God!).
After he died and rose, the only one folks can point to is Thomas (the doubter, of all followers) who supposedly worshiped the Lord as God (that's a big supposedly, in my opinon). Not a lot of weight here.
Jesus never wanted glory for himself, but the Father wanted it for his Son. So we do have verses that tell us we are to “honor” Jesus.
But Jesus NEEDING worship? Nah…..

He recieved it, but he didn't “need” it. He was the epitome of humble.October 22, 2009 at 4:42 pm#152850georgParticipantQuote (Gene @ Sep. 22 2009,17:25) TO All………..Jesus does (NOT) Share the (SAME) position as the FATHER DOES, NOW or ever Will. Or why would He turn His KINGDOM over to the FATHER and BE SUBJECT to HIM?. It is because He will rule by the (AUTHORITY) of GOD the FATHER, Not because HE IS GOD. GOD gives him His Seven SPIRITS with POWER to exercise His Authority on EARTH, during the Millennial Reign of Christ. But after the Jesus turns it back over to the FATHER, (“that God may be (ALL) and in (ALL”). ONE GOD in ALL things>ONE WILL working in ALL things, Not some triune GOD'S, Just ONE GOD> IMO peace and love to you all………………………………gene
Gene I agree with that. Jesus deserves all Honor because He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. However God our Heavenly Father we worship. Jesus is second in command, if you want to say it that way. Jesus Himself said in John that He does nothing that the Father does't want Him to. And “My Father is greater then I” He said. That is good enough for me.
IreneOctober 24, 2009 at 3:29 am#153145GeneBalthropParticipantIrene……..you have that right, we are to honor Jesus, but worship Him? I personally only worship Our GOD the FATHER, as Jesus taught us to and Jesus himself also worshiped and prayed to him. We bow in submission to Jesus because it gives Glory to the FATHER. “JESUS CHRIST TO THE GLORY OF THE FATHER'> IMO
peace and love to you and Georg…………………….gene
