God made man in his image. Jesus is called the image of God. We are not the source. Jesus is not the source. Both are images of God. One made, the other begotten.
T8… Jesus is not the source..???
John 1:4 “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.”
John 5:26 “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself.”
Colossians 1:17 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
1 John 2:23 “Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.”
This really is the trap that the Jehovah’s Witnesses have fallen into – in denying the trinity they have made Jesus into a created being, an angel…so instead of being witnesses for Jesus Christ they say they are Jehovah’s witnesses but, as Scripture says, in denying the Son you actually deny the Father also.
March 8, 2015 at 8:20 am#790302kerwinParticipantDavid L,
I agree the three work together in unity but I cannot agree they work as God as there is one God in the unity of faith and that is not Jesus. Jesus Christ is the one Lord of the unity. It is written about in Ephesians 4.
March 8, 2015 at 8:22 am#790303kerwinParticipantDavid L.
Jesus is a human being. I know this because Scripture states he is the one human being who mediates between God and humanity.
March 8, 2015 at 8:26 am#790304NickHassanParticipantHi davidl,
You have found nothing taught in the bible about any trinity.
Rebirth from above by the Holy Spirit of God is the plan of God for all.
To bring all into spiritual unity with him and His son forever.
But men have unknowingly served satan and sinned, and God requires that all repent and be baptised in water in the name of Jesus Christ as a prerequisite.
It is simple-too simple for most.
March 8, 2015 at 8:27 am#790305bodhithartaParticipant@DavidL you said “He is united again with the Father, as He Himself declared, “Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.”
Do you not clearly see the words “sit on the right hand of the Power of God” PLEASE note it does not say “AS GOD” also understand that Jesus said: Mark 10:40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
How is it you say Jesus is God when he does not have complete authority or knowledge
Matthew 24:36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Are you saying that the Trinity consists of 3 entities some knowing and others not knowing all things? So you keep saying 3 manifestations but One God, right? so how can ONE GOD not know something about one of its own manifestations?
March 8, 2015 at 8:42 am#790308DavidLParticipantso how can ONE GOD not know something about one of its own manifestations?
The same way a husband may know something the wife doesn’t – and yet the two are one according to God..!
March 8, 2015 at 8:44 am#790309DavidLParticipantRebirth from above by the Holy Spirit of God is the plan of God for all.
So when did YOU become born again Nick – what was YOUR OWN experience..?
March 8, 2015 at 8:52 am#790310DavidLParticipantDo you not clearly see the words “sit on the right hand of the Power of God” PLEASE note it does not say “AS GOD”
How much power does God have…?
How much power does the Son have, seated at the right hand of the Father..?
“When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.'” – Matthew 28
“”All things have been committed to Me by My Father..” – Matthew 11
“The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in His hands.” – John 3
March 8, 2015 at 9:33 am#790312NickHassanParticipantHi Davidl,
I read the bible and found I could not tolerate the discrepancies between what the bible taught and what I had learned through my catholic upbringing. The beauty and consistency I found revealed there astounded me and showed me faith was real and relevant.
I sought the Spirit as the bible had promised and had hands laid on me by brothers in the faith. God showed me that water baptism in the name of Jesus also was essential to obedience in faith and a brother who had recently been baptised helped me.
Over the last 35 years since then my Father has taught me, blessed me and encouraged me and has used me on occasions to help others. I have had experiences of His power at times.
Peace is my companion and hope grows brighter every day.
March 8, 2015 at 11:42 am#790317bodhithartaParticipant@DavidL Saying God has given all power on heaven and earth does not make them God look:
Matthew 18:8 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Are these disciples now God? or Look:
John 14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
Would God say someone will be able to do greater things then He can do?
You also made this Husband/Wife comparison is that the way you are believing in the trinity as 3 completely different beings with different abilities that simply have Unity of purpose but are not 1 BEING? Are you of the thought that God is more like a system or a congress of beings united? This would be quite weird since God says: Isaiah 45:6 so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. Notice the context HE doesn’t say “others” HE clearly says OTHER There is no OTHER if he was a Trinity or Congress of Beings he would be defending those but HE is speaking in completely singular terms when speaking of HIMSELF.
March 8, 2015 at 12:01 pm#790318bodhithartaParticipantAlso one quick point is when God said in Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
God gave men all Authority and God spoke these things to His angels as HE often does as their contribution is what would give them Mastery over all things which is why regarding Men it is said:
Hebrews 2:7 6But one has testified somewhere, saying, “WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM? 7″YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS; YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR, AND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS; 8YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET.” For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.…
and then about Christ it continues:
Hebrews 2:9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
You can see clearly that all men just like Jesus were made the same and all MUST OVERCOME the WORLD, this is what MAKES JESUS GREAT and IMMENSE so he declares HIMSELF the KEY point:
“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.“ (Revelation 3:12).
Now, this is the risen Jesus speaking he says he has a GOD that he worships there is no indication here that he himself is this God he worships there is no mention of any other God or partner.
March 8, 2015 at 12:32 pm#790319ProclaimerParticipantYes, I know this is your verse of choice to use against the trinity, but again all you are doing is using the humanity of Jesus in an attempt to deny His deity…and thus slipping into the realm of teaching cult doctrine.
Although he existed in the FORM of God, he EMPTIED himself, took on flesh, died for humanity’s sins. then returned to the glory that he had with the Father before the cosmos began.
He existed with God at the right-hand of God, before and now. Even the first martyr Steven said in Acts 7:56:
“Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
Before and now, he is at the right-hand of God.
Don’t believe Steven? What about Luke’s testimony in Luke 22:69.
But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
I could add quite a few more explicit verses on this. But these two should suffice if you trust in the scriptures.
March 8, 2015 at 3:54 pm#790322NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
Indeed the Word that was with God and was God, existed in the form of God.
The Word was made flesh at the Jordan in the clean vessel, Jesus of Nazareth
March 8, 2015 at 4:03 pm#790323NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
God is spirit.
So the Word being in the form of God, was Spirit of that Spirit.
March 8, 2015 at 4:13 pm#790324NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
Gal 4
” …God sent forth His Son.. and because we are sons God sent forth the SPIRIT OF HIS SON into your hearts crying Abba Father”
The human spirit of Jesus returned to God at death.
If we are born of the Spirit of Christ we too have unity with the Spirit of God
March 8, 2015 at 4:27 pm#790325NickHassanParticipantHi t8,
“THE WORD of life was from the beginning.. was WITH the Father..”1 Jn1
Jesus was not from the beginning but began life by conception in Mary
Now Jesus CHRIST since the Jordan-the Word made flesh
March 8, 2015 at 5:20 pm#790326NickHassanParticipantHi,
”Our fellowship is with the Father and with His son ”1 Jn1
IN THE ONE SPIRIT
March 8, 2015 at 6:02 pm#790328NickHassanParticipantHi Davidl,
Scripture says GOD WAS IN CHRIST RECONCILING THE WORLD TO HIMSELF.[1Thess]
How can this be if he is God?
God in God?
March 11, 2015 at 5:15 am#790451DavidLParticipantThanks for sharing about your spiritual journey NickHassan.. I find many people stumble on the trinity because they do not have the Spirit – trusting instead in their own logical understanding for guidance, they end up rejecting truth because it makes no sense to the natural mind..when really, if you think about it, all truth comes by way of revelation – the Spirit showing us…and yet even those who were once led by the Spirit often seem to revert back again to relying on their own understanding…interpreting Scripture in a way that seems right to their own way of thinking, when the things of God simply cannot be grasped that way.. and so we end up with a maze of dead theology we call Christendom, and race ahead (instead of waiting on God), putting our trust in teachings we call truth, when really they are nothing but man made inventions (I refer to what is taught here regarding the deity of Christ).
Maybe growing up catholic has set you against the idea of the trinity because it was turned into part of the church’s religious tradition – but, like the virgin birth and the stations of the cross etc, etc, some of these traditions are founded on the truth. I was never taught the trinity so I don’t have that confusion to work through, nor, as a believer now for 23 yrs, has their ever been any conflict in my heart about the deity of the Holy Spirit, or Jesus Christ…when Thomas called Him God, I know in my heart that this is not wrong…yet to worship anyone but God – this would be wrong. (The reason, I believe, we do not worship the Spirit is because it is His role to magnify and exalt the Son).
You ask, If God was in Christ, how could Christ be God..? This is the way that logic tries to make sense of spiritual things… I could ask you, How could God be in Christ…I thought God was in heaven..?? But when you see the working of the Godhead, there is a unity beyond anything we know on earth.
“For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” – Colossians 2:9
This shows me that the Son is the complete manifestation of the trinity (or Godhead) in Himself – not just an outward image, but the reality of the Father and the Spirit in Christ Jesus the Son.
We cannot reason such things out logically – they are only seen with the eyes of the heart… listen to your heart.
March 11, 2015 at 6:07 am#790452NickHassanParticipantHi davidl,
As soon as I find your trinity taught in the bible I could agree.
Otherwise I would be following tradition.
