The image of the beast begins in Daniel chapter three in which the King, Nebuchadnezzar, had them set up a golden image which measured – in height, sixty cubits and in breadth six cubits – and He had all of the satraps; prefects; governors; counselors; treasurers; justices; magistrates; and all of the officials, to come to the dedication of the image…

And then the herald commanded aloud to all of the people of all of the nations and languages, that when they hear the sound of the music, they should then bow down to and worship the image which was set up, and if they did not bow down to and worship the image at the sound of the music, they would be punished by being thrown into a burning fiery furnace.

When God gave Israel the law, He told them to bind the words as a sign upon their hand and also between the front-lets of their eyes (the forehead) now we should know that this was a spiritual thing and not a literal binding of the words either on their hand or on their forehead.

What it meant was that the Israelites were to keep God's law constantly within them in all that they do and all that they think (thoughts and actions…)

In Revelation, the 144000 are also sealed with the Father and the Son's name on their forehead.
Now we know also that this is a spiritual mark. It identifies who they belong to.

And while they were smiting, and I was left alone, I fell upon my face, and cried, “Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all that remains of Israel in the outpouring of thy wrath upon Jerusalem?”

Then he said to me, “The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice; for they say, `The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD does not see.'

As for me, my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity, but I will requite their deeds upon their heads.”

And lo, the man clothed in linen, with the writing case at his side, brought back word, saying, “I have done as thou didst command me.”

You must not confuse the MARK and the SEAL of God
The seal of God is Gods name in their foreheads,this is a spiritual seal. for they followed the Lamb wheresoever he goeth.

The mark of the beast HAS TO BE a physical mark ,because it will be used for buying and selling.
THE CREDIT CARD IS USED FOR BUYING AND SELLING.

The 'image' of the beast was an actual 'image' set up and people were made to worship the image and if they did not worship the image (the golden statue) then they were punished, they were sent into the fiery oven to die and so likewise it says in Revelation that anyone who does not receive the mark on the right hand or on the forehead through not “worshiping” this image, is punished (not able to buy or sell).
