To All……….”we shall all be salted with Fire”, and again, “now concerning this fiery trial which has tried you as if some strange thing has happened unto you”, and again “knowing this that the trying of your Faith is more precious then Gold, and again”, “(EVERY MANS WORK) shall be tried, and if he has built with gold, silver, or precious stones , he shall recieve a reward , but if he has built with hay, wood, or stubble , he shall suffer lost, but he himself shall be saved (YET AS BY FIRE), for every man work shall be tried by the fire.” And again “Judgment begins at the house of GOD”. Now if the Godly scarcely be saved imagine how hard its going to be for the UNGODLY, they will be tossed into the Lake of FIRE (very intense form of Judgments). which will burn the dross out of them and purify and cleanse them. If we are found worthy to be in the first resurrection we will not have to go through this future intense judgments, so we need to endure what ever the Lord puts on us now and understand it is needful for our cleansing and perfecting. This is harder then it sounds as many of us know.

This is your way of salvation.
But it is not aligned with scripture but your ideas.May 15, 2009 at 7:45 pm#131097kerwinParticipantMark 9:49(KJV) reads
Quote For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
I have to admit Jesus did like to speak cryptically and it is sometimes difficult to decode what he actually means. I assume you believe the fire he speaks to is the hellfire he mentioned in verse 48 and elsewhere as the fire that does not die. Never mind that Jesus warns his disciples to maim themselves rather than be cast into that hellfire. You also should consider verse 50 which states:
Mark 9:50(KJV) reads:
Quote Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
So is Jesus confused since he mentions “hellfire” which he warns his students to avoid then “salt” which he tells them to embrace and yet you say they are salted by hellfire.
If I have you correct then it is your interpretation and not Jesus that is not making sense.
Personally I am inclined to believe that Jesus changed the topic between versus 48 and 49 just like he had between verses 41 and 42 and elsewhere. In verses 49 and 50 he is addressing the same idea that is addressed by the prophet Malachi in the following scripture.
Malachi 3:2-3(KJV) reads:
Quote But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
This interpretation is sensible since it makes sense to avoid hellfire which is not the refining fire while be grateful for the refining fire that brings our your saltiness so you will not be thrown into hellfire.
Matthew 5:10-13(KJV) reads:
Quote Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Luke 14:33-35(KJV) reads:
Quote So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.May 15, 2009 at 9:37 pm#131099GeneBalthropParticipantKerwin………Your confusing the issues as Nick does……….> Salting (means a sprinkling) as they did with salt on food to give meat a distinct flavor> GOD Sprinkles (fire on us like we do salt on meat or something). This fire is a (intense judgement), which GOD uses to purify and add character to his children, “for Whom the LORD loves he disciplines and scourges every son he accepts”. Every one who is not salted by GOD is a (bastard) and not a son. As scripture shows. Now Salting and Salt are two different issues, One is a action done to a person, the other is the flavoring or salt it self, the taste if you will. God want us to have our own unique Character, but still maintain peace. If we loose our Saltiness we no longer a distinct individual , we have become bland so to speak. Jesus said we are the Salt of the earth, You might say that gives it (the earth) it flavor, then he went on to say if the salt looses it saltness, where with shall (IT) (the earth) be salted. I find it hard to believe you and Nick have such trouble understand these things. Though they are as you say “cryptic” in a since, they still are easily understood for a person who has the mind of the Spirit. IMO

Not the way Jesus uses it. If you notice he was calling his disciples salt and it is his disciples that are made salty by the refining fires. The disciples would not be salty salt unless God makes them salty and therefore they would not need to be warned not to loose their saltiness.

You are missing my point. My point is when you salt something such as salt you add the quality of “saltness” to it.
So you think any human has the natural quality of “saltness”? I certainly do not so obviously that quality needs to be added to make the humans referred to as salt have the quality of “saltness”. I had also quoted God when he spoke through the prophet Malachi to state he would refine his priests with fire which is a way to give them the quality of “saltness”
Those that are salted are the noblest of society but if they loose their saltness the loose their nobility.
May 17, 2009 at 4:58 am#131145GeneBalthropParticipantKerwin……..where does it say those that are salted are the noblest of society, and if they loose their saltness they loose their nobility. I have never read that in scriptures. If you are talking about where Jesus said you are the salt of the earth, if the salt loose its saltiness where with shall (IT) (the EARTH) be salted. He was referencing the effect on the earth, without the salt supplied by those who have salt in themselves. But there is another scripture that does say if a man looses His salt he is good of nothing but to be thrown out and trumped under by the foot of man. So it does say we need to maintain our individual character i will agree with that. IMO

You do realize that “salt of the earth” means a person or group considered the best or the noblest part of society. That is the definition I obtained from thefreedictionary.com under the May 17,2009 entry for “salt” and it is certainly consistent with scripture that states though your version of scripture may use the words “honor” and “royal” instead of “noble”.2 Timothy 2:19-21(KJV) reads:
Quote Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
Romans 9:21(KJV) reads:
Quote Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
1 Peter 2:9(KJV) reads:
Quote But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
As for warnings not to loose our saltiness they also exist, though other often less cryptic words are used in them.
2 Peter 3:17(KJV) reads:
Quote Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
2 Peter 1:10(KJV) reads:
Quote Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Hebrews 4:11(KJV) reads:
Quote Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
May 17, 2009 at 2:56 pm#131159GeneBalthropParticipantKerwin……..i do not disagree with your last post. you are expanding the issue i originally addresses about salt. As i said Salt spoken of as a flavoring is a (distinct) quality of “Character”, is one thing and Salting is the process of (Being) salted another, and in that case it means to be sprinkled with as when Jesus said we would be Salted with (Fire). One is the process the other the seasoning or flavor it produces. That was my (ONLY) point.
I have no disagreement with the rest of you post, except i notice you put the most inferences on (the works of man) and very little on the work of GOD in the man. When we take those scriptures out of context to make salvation a matter of (Self works) then as i said before i disagree with that. Relying to much on outside sources can complicate scriptures, it is better to rely on the Spirit to teach us. IMO

Besides the fact that I am addressing what you asked about and that being “salt of the earth” and how the “salt” looses its “saltiness”, I am not expanding on the original issue. Of course answering your point was an expansion on what we are speaking about.

And my answer to that point is to ask how salt obtained its saltiness? Do you believe salt has always had saltiness or that God gave it the quality of saltiness? I also stated I believe that the “salt” did not always have its “saltiness” but was rather given that “saltiness” by the refining fires of God and not by hellfire.
May 18, 2009 at 2:23 pm#131214GeneBalthropParticipantKerwin……..I believe we all have been given our own (DISTINCT) Character at berth that makes us unique from others. When Jesus said have salt in yourselves. He was talking about their own distinct Characters then he added, and have peace, sometimes while being distinct from another can cause friction between each other that can disrupt the peace, as shown in scripture . Like Paul and Peter, and Paul and Barnabas had. But God wants us to have our own Character and exercise it, but maintain peace also. This is what Jesus was referring to by having salt in yourself (AND) have peace.
Now being Salted with Fire is a seasoning produced by intense Judgments in Us. and while these fiery trials correct us and give us better incite and understandings, they do not (change) our individual Character given us at berth.
Here is a good example >……… My first grade teacher was very old in her 90's and when my Son graduated from the same school i went to. This old Women came up to me and said “Hi Gene”, and ask me if i know who she was, i looked at her and said no i did not recall Her, She smiled and said I am Joan Berg , i was you first and second grade teacher. I ask Her How did she recognize me after all these years, she smiled and said you haven't changed one bit, your mannerism is exactly the same as then, that never changes. and that is how i know it was you.
You see we are all given our own distinct personalities at berth that is distinctly US. We are not all a bunch of yellow pencils , but GOD gives all of us a distinct personality as He seen fit. You are you and there is no other exactly like you. IMO

Gold is gold even though it is not refined and yet it needs to be refined to bring out its true value.
Salt is often refined as well though I am unaware whether Jesus was speaking of a refined or unrefined variety. Some unrefined salts are supposed to taste better that the refined variety, which is more common nowadays.
So I believe we agree that Jesus' students are refined by fire. The point of disagreement is about which fire refines them. I state it cannot be hellfire since Jesus warns his disciples to avoid it but that it is the trial and tribulations we each go through.
Romans 5:3-5(KJV) reads:
Quote And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
These trials and tribulations happen before we come to the Anointed One as well as after and they bring us to the point in life where we reach out to God and he will release us from our prison of darkness.
