I personally cannot see how the current two widgets do not show the active threads list.
It shows the lastest comments, and the above widget shows the 3 latest topics.
Merging them would present the same information would it not?
Further, you can also see who is online at the moment.
What was the difference again?
Sorry I know you told me in another thread, but I forgot.
Hi t8. OK.
-Say you have twenty topics posted in over the past week. So, twenty active topics…
-The replacement “Active Topics” widget would show all viewers those twenty topics that have been posted in over say the past week or two. Hence, we can see those twenty active topics on the home-page and go to whichever one we are interested in. This is how most forums operate, there is usually a link showing “Active Topics” or it is on their homepage, but there’s no such link or widget here.
-Currently you have the widgets:
1) Latest Forum Topics (four viewable) and,
2) Latest Replies.1) Latest forum topics only shows the four latest newly made threads. If you had the “Active Topic” widget instead, then the currant “New Topics” widget would NOT be necessary, because new topics would automatically show up in the new “Active Topic” list.
2) The currant “Recent Replies” widget only shows the posts made by the minute, but doesn’t show each topic that is active. Hence…. if every member posted in one topic over the past 3 hours, we are only seeing that one thread, and it’s excluding all the other active threads, which are going UNNOTICED and will disappear without comment.
However, IF you had the “Active Topics” widget, we would know, and people can then respond. Because, it would show up on the home-page.
Perhaps, you could TRY the active topics widget, and if nobody likes it, go back to the two widgets you have now.
OR, have the new “Active Topics” widget allowing say 20 active topics to show, assuming to you can adjust its settings, (do away with the current “Latest Forum Topics” widget as it won’t be needed), and still have the “Latest Replies” widget — but reduce it’s list to say five or ten.
Follow? I am trying to explain it as best I can…
December 7, 2014 at 2:44 pm#786447CamilliaParticipantBTW, I whittled the current list of forums in Believers Category from 14 to 12. I don’t think I can go any further though. 12 is a good number.
Good one!
There’s 8 possibly more.
Prophecy (Prophecy (362, 24,725), Prophetic News & Eschatology (177, 4,256),
Theology (Scriptural Teachings (992, 125,253), Truth or Tradition (832, 122,934),
Faith & Doctrine (Doctrinal Disagreements (57, 5,674), Faith (271, 14,679),
Group Discussions & Debate (Debates (97, 13,823), Group Discussions (26, 2,463), Private Groups (0)
Forum Info, Help and Feedback (Feedback, Suggestions, & Features (136, 6,729), Test Posts (59, 616), Rules, Help Desk & Notices (97, 1,217), About Believers Place (23, 2,699)

I was looking and couldn’t find any sort of topic keyword search. If there isn’t any, is there a possibility of getting one?~
GDecember 7, 2014 at 4:06 pm#786456ProclaimerParticipantHave a look down the bottom of each page. There is currently a site-wide Google Search which includes the forums. I had to turn off the native search engine as it was too taxing for the server resources. It maxed out the CPU allowance as it trolled through 40,000 posts, resulting in the site being throttled for a short time. I plan on putting the search higher up the page when I have figured out a styling issue I am currently having.
There is also a keyword list, and although that mainly points to blogs, each of those blogs are associated with a forum topic instead of comments.
December 7, 2014 at 4:20 pm#786457ProclaimerParticipantThe currant “Recent Replies” widget only shows the posts made by the minute, but doesn’t show each topic that is active.
Current topics are topics that have current posts, correct? So what is the difference. I could easily change the heading of that widget to Active Topics and it would be the same thing. I know that this would not include new topics, but then I have a widget for that.
Are you advocating just one widget instead where both topics and posts are merged?

Alrighty 😉 ty~
GDecember 7, 2014 at 4:43 pm#786460CamilliaParticipantt8,
From: (Where they are discussing what I am trying to say!)
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/list-only-most-recently-active-threads/
If you use the “Recent Topics” widget instead of the “Recent Replies” widget, you can choose “order by : Topics with recent replies” (it’s in the dropdown menu) and you’ll get what you want.
December 7, 2014 at 9:04 pm#786474AdminKeymasterI am sorry that you needed to spell that out for me, it seems obvious now.
I have configured the recent topics widget to show latest activity.
Now if I remember rightly from a previous discussion, this is what you want, except for it to show the last poster not the topic author. Is that correct?
December 7, 2014 at 9:40 pm#786478CamilliaParticipantThat’s exactly it, thank you t8!
See if you and your members prefer it after a while. I’m sure it will help heaps. 🙂
December 7, 2014 at 9:49 pm#786483AdminKeymasterOh cool. I decided to not show the member who started the topic because it could be confused with latest member to post.
Anyway, I have added in a new page called Topics linked in the main menu navigation. Might need to reload the page you are on to see it.
Tell me if this is useful. It pretty much gives what you want, but shows latest poster. It is exactly the same as the forum layout on the homepage, but lists topics by recent activity instead of forums.
December 7, 2014 at 9:54 pm#786486CamilliaParticipantThe Topics page is really good! You’ve got it spot on now.
December 7, 2014 at 9:56 pm#786487AdminKeymasterAlso, I decided to link to /forums/ instead of /forum/ in the main menu because /forums/ uses the forums template which has no side bar. The information looks easier to read. What do you think?
December 7, 2014 at 10:50 pm#786489CamilliaParticipantMuch easier to read. It was a bit squashed up before.
Thanks for listening, t8.
December 7, 2014 at 10:56 pm#786490CamilliaParticipantAnyway, I have added in a new page called Topics linked in the main menu navigation.
t8, on the Topics page, right at the top it has an “Add a Comment” link, which takes you to a “Leave a Reply” form. Just curious : Where does that reply end up?
December 8, 2014 at 12:06 am#786492AdminKeymasterOh thanks. It should not be shown. I will remove that now.
If I left it, it would be a comment at the bottom of the page. But do not want to do that.
For posts that have comments showing, I replace them with a forum topic instead.🙂
December 8, 2014 at 3:43 am#786494kerwinParticipantt8,
You have chose to go for more depth than the forums I just looked at. They all had more categories. I am fine with yours as I usually select a recent thread and then go to other places from there.
December 8, 2014 at 8:52 am#786511AdminKeymasterKerwin, are you talking about the Forum home page or the right-hand widget with recent posts/activity?
Also, you may be interested in this page. It lists all topics by activity.
December 8, 2014 at 9:01 am#786512CamilliaParticipantOh thanks. It should not be shown. I will remove that now.
If I left it, it would be a comment at the bottom of the page. But do not want to do that.
For posts that have comments showing, I replace them with a forum topic instead. The “Add a Comment” link is on the top of your “Forums” page/link too 🙂 Just in case it’s not supposed to be there.
This layout is heaps better, thanks t8.
December 9, 2014 at 8:55 am#786582CamilliaParticipantHi t8. This might sound really lame, but now you have the Topics link, the homepage widget is fine the way it was before (each post showing) if you preferred that better. As I said, now we have the Topics page link, so all is sweet.
December 10, 2014 at 12:46 pm#786747ProclaimerParticipantI agree. It seems like a double up now, and the other view was unique at least.
I will switch it back.
I also added a Popular Topics link at the top.
🙂
