Hi KW,
He laid out the detail of entering the way of Christ and gave a more spiritual vies in Rom6 of the same thing.
Would you make scripture fight itself?April 8, 2014 at 7:56 pm#376919kerwinParticipantNick,
I am not the one making Scripture fight itself you are. I am just pointing out your choice to do so then offering an alternative interpretation for Hebrews 6:1-3 that does not condemn Paul's words in Romans 6.

Your mind may not be satisfied with the alignment but you could changeApril 8, 2014 at 8:29 pm#376926NickHassanParticipantHi,
God is of order.
Heb 6 shows that order.
But folk want to argue not obeyApril 8, 2014 at 8:37 pm#376928kerwinParticipantNick,
My spirit is not satisfied with your interpretation of Hebrews 6 because it condemns the God's words in Roman 6. If you do not think your interpretation does then you must see things differently but you are failing to communicate how you see them.
In Romans 6 Paul is expounding on the philosophy of Christ centered around being immersed in the name of Jesus. It is clear doing do is not something to be condemned.
In Hebrews 6 the author is not condemning believers for expounding about the early things about the gospel but instead is condemning their lack of progress in getting away from those things.

Jesus has no philosophy
That is for the entertainment of the greeks. To be condemned?
It is the foundation of the message of salvation and response to the call of the Spirit.April 8, 2014 at 8:49 pm#376933NickHassanParticipantHi KW,

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

You simply do not know what a philosopher was. A disciple after all is the student of a philosopher. That is why the philosophers wanted to hear Paul and his new philosophy after they heard him reasoning like other philosophers in the marketplace.

Paul was no philosopher but a mouthpiece for God
and those men of the world wrongly thought he might be one of them. They only knew the wisdom of the world
April 9, 2014 at 4:27 am#377008NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
It was one of their idolatries
Acts 17
6 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

Nick,That is not written in Scripture nor is it implied.
It is not written philosophers only deal with the wisdom of this world. They deal with wisdom and those that live according to the flesh deal with the wisdom of this world while those who deal with the wisdom of the Spirit.

Athens was at that time a pagan city given to worship idols. Paul called them religious in every way, Acts 17:22. They literally engaged in religious idolatry.

I do not know of many that worship idols in this age but perhaps you have more knowledge of that subject than me.
