The Indiana Gazette Claims that the Sabbath is on Sunday—and Only on Sunday
The Indiana Gazette is a daily newspaper that serves Indiana County in Pennsylvania. Local newspapers play a vital role in communities by providing news and information that directly affects residents’ daily lives. Additionally, they foster a sense of community identity, highlighting local achievements, culture, and history. However, when the media starts promoting religious ideologies that align with the political aspirations of Rome, they lose their independence and turn into propaganda operatives, manipulating public opinion.
On November 23, 2024, the Indiana Gazette published an article promoting the idea that only Sunday is the Sabbath. To say that only Sunday is the Sabbath is to push a divisive rhetoric that is not only inaccurate and unfair but also exclusionary.
The newspaper published the following, in part:
• “What image comes to mind when you hear the word Sabbath? A day of rest and relaxation? A day to restore spent batteries? A day to finally schedule those fun activities you don’t have time for the rest of the week? A day to worship God? A nice, long, delicious Sunday afternoon nap? Parking it before the television to watch the game? Or a day to catch up with all the work you couldn’t fit into Monday through Saturday?” [1]
• “For me, Sabbath meant a day of rest, and that, traditionally, was Sunday. And only Sunday.” [1]
•“God created Sabbath on the seventh day to give the rest of what He created balance. A life without Sabbath, without rest, is out of balance. Sabbath is not an option but an integral part of life. A lifestyle, not a day.” [1]
• “Father, I pray for guidance, wisdom and discernment as I continue to follow Your lead of establishing Sabbath margins in my life so that nothing holds me captive but You. Amen.” [1]
To say that the Sabbath is only on Sunday is false because it does not take into account the religious beliefs and biblical practices of groups that hold that the Sabbath falls on Saturday. For Jews and other Christian denominations, such as Seventh-day Adventists, the Sabbath is observed from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening, in accordance with the biblical command to rest on the seventh day (Exodus 20:8-11). This seventh-day Sabbath has been maintained for thousands of years and is deeply rooted in God’s word.While Sunday is regarded as the day of worship by Roman Catholics and most Protestant traditions, it is not universally accepted by all. To claim that there is no other Sabbath but Sunday is an attempt to erase dissenting interpretations and diminish the religious diversity that exists among faith communities. Respecting minority religious groups is essential for fostering religious freedom and liberty of conscience.
Prophecy warns us that in the last days there will be a struggle over God’s commandments, particularly the Sabbath. In fact, Sabbath-keepers will be subject to persecution for opposing the obligatory observance of Sunday.
“To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for a Sunday law. Those who fear God cannot accept an institution that violates a precept of the Decalogue. On this battlefield comes the last great conflict of the controversy between truth and error” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 450).
“Those who honor the Bible Sabbath will be denounced as enemies of law and order, as breaking down the moral restraints of society, causing anarchy and corruption, and calling down the judgments of God upon the earth. Their conscientious scruples will be pronounced obstinacy, stubbornness, and contempt of authority. They will be accused of disaffection toward the government” (Great Controversy, p. 592).

Since “the law of the Lord is perfect,” every variation from it must be evil. Those who disobey the commandments of God, and teach others to do so, are condemned by Christ. The Saviour’s life of obedience maintained the claims of the law, it proved that the law could be kept in humanity, and showed the excellence of character that obedience would develop. All who obey as He did are likewise declaring that the law is “holy, and just, and good.” Romans 7:12.81The Desire of Ages, 308, 309.
When, through faith in Jesus Christ, man does according to the very best of his ability, and seeks to keep the way of the Lord by obedience to the Ten Commandments, the perfection of Christ is imputed to cover the transgression of the repentant and obedient soul..

There are many who are openly advocating for a Bible-based curriculum in public education as a way to combat the trend toward secularism and preserve Christian moral values. According to Baptist News, these initiatives are an attempt to convert public schools into Sunday schools.
On November 26, 2024, Baptist News published an article called “Sunday Schools in Public Schools” and stated the following in part:
• “Among many reasons for the continuing attempt to introduce ‘Bible curriculum’ in American/Southern public education, the decline in Sunday school attendance is surely prominent. Supporters of such endeavors seem to be asking the public schools to do the church’s job for them, Christianizing a generation who know not Sunday school.” [1]
• “Oklahoma and Texas are at the forefront of that movement.” [1]
• “Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters ‘emailed state school superintendents a ‘Mandatory Announcement’ linked to a video titled ‘Prayer for the Nation.’ Walters demanded all Oklahoma schools play the video for their students and ‘send it home to their parents.’ Walters led in requiring the Bible curriculum in Oklahoma schools and requires all teachers to be prepared to teach such courses.” [1]
• “On Nov. 22, the Texas Board of Education, by an 8-7 vote, approved the ‘Bluebonnet Learning’ curriculum for public schools grades K-5, surely the first stage of bringing a Bible curriculum into all Texas public schools. The program is optional, but the state sweetens the pot by providing $60 per student to the schools that acquiesce, a kind of governmental indulgence selling.” [1]
Even though Baptist News describes these developments, they also warn that these kinds of religious mandates could very well lead to a return of persecution and tyranny. Yes, many Christians were persecuted in colonial America due to differences in religious beliefs and practices that often clashed with the dominant religious groups that were in power. While many colonists came to America seeking religious freedom, that freedom was many times only limited to those who were in the majority groups, with dissenters facing discrimination or punishment. In communities dominated by the Puritans, many Quakers, Baptists, and independents were harshly persecuted, fined, imprisoned, and even executed.In the 1880s, Seventh-day Adventists faced significant persecution due to their observance of Saturday, the biblical Sabbath, in contrast to widespread Sunday laws, known as blue laws, which mandated Sunday rest and church attendance in many parts of the United States. These laws, rooted in Protestantism, criminalized work and recreation on Sundays, and Adventists were fined, harassed, or even jailed for engaging in routine activities or refusing to cease their livelihoods on Sunday.
The modern societal trend to revive Christianity through government mandate is a call to return to a time of religious tyranny and persecution, where the freedoms of conscience and worship become severely diminished. According to Bible prophecy, specifically Revelation 13, Protestant America will unite with our nation’s political powers to enforce religious observance, forming an “image to the beast.” This image represents a system of religious authority that mirrors the oppressive church-state union of the Papal Dark Ages, where dissenters were persecuted for their beliefs.
Any efforts to legislate morality, enforce religious observances, or undermine the separation of church and state are stepping stones toward this prophetic fulfillment. As these developments unfold, those who remain faithful to God’s commandments, particularly in keeping the biblical Sabbath, will face renewed persecution. The fires of intolerance, once thought extinguished, will ignite again, testing the faith of believers and ushering in the final events foretold in Scripture.
“God’s people will feel the hand of persecution because they keep holy the seventh day.” (Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, p. 975).
“If popery or its principles shall again be legislated into power, the fires of persecution will be rekindled against those who will not sacrifice conscience and the truth in deference to popular errors. This evil is on the point of realization.” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 712).

The wise will inherit glory. (Proverbs 3:35)
Salvation comes to the one whose character is in harmony with God’s law. Every human being who conforms to it will enter the kingdom of glory. Jesus declared: “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36. He added: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21. And in Revelation the Lord declares: “Blessed are they who do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14. This is the only election known to the Word of God.
Every soul who is willing to “work out his own salvation with fear and trembling” is elected. He is elected who is willing to “take up the armor of God” and “fight the good fight.” He is elected who is willing to “watch and pray,” to “search the Scriptures,” and flee from temptation. He is elected who is determined, in spite of all, to believe and obey “every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” The means and results of redemption are freely offered to all who will meet the conditions.
Satan is constantly working to lead men into evil, to pervert the words of God, to blind the minds, and to darken the understandings. That is why the Lord is so explicit, and gives His commandments in terms that cannot be mistaken. He is working to draw men away from the deceptions of Satan, and to draw them under His protection. Because of the enemy’s eagerness to distract our thoughts and to steal from our hearts the promises and commandments of the Lord, God has condescended to speak His oracles with His own voice and to write them with His own hand. These blessed words, all quivering with life and shining with light, this viaticum, this perfect guide, He entrusts to us to incite us to greater diligence in assimilating their contents permanently.

Catholic Advocacy Group is Calling for the Restoration of Constantine’s Sunday Law in Europe
Family Solidarity is an Irish conservative advocacy group run by Roman Catholics. [1] Part of their advocacy work is to petition politicians to enact legislation that aligns with Catholic values. For example, Family Solidarity outlined the following objectives in their mission statement:
• “ When the pope says ‘positive social and legal action’ he means, amongst other things, lobbying for good laws and regulations and to change bad ones. Lobbying is part and parcel of the working democracy everywhere. To neglect it would mean allowing our opponents complete freedom for their destructive activity in this area.” [2]
The Catholic Church is deeply involved in political lobbying and engages with governments to influence legislation. Rome believes that Catholic doctrine should guide action not just in personal life but also in shaping society. Recently, Family Solidarity has openly called for the return of Constantine’s Sunday laws to be revived again in Europe. Anytime Roman Catholics begin advocating for laws that would make Sunday the required day of rest and worship, this is a significant step toward the fulfillment of end-time prophecy concerning the mark of the beast.
Family Solidarity recently published the following regarding Sunday laws:
• “Once upon a time, not so long ago, Sunday was considered a day of rest. But now, like every other day of the week, it has basically been captured by the demands of commerce. So there is no longer a communal day of rest in a lot of countries. This needs to change. There needs to be a European weekly common day of rest, together with the right to disconnect from work.” [3]
• “In most European countries, Sunday is traditionally the day of rest from work. This is the heritage of the Christian tradition. Precisely 1,700 years ago, the Emperor Constantine decreed Sunday to be a day of rest protected by law. Nonetheless, many countries, including Ireland, allow businesses to run seven days a week. This has a profound impact on workers and their families.” [3]
• “The European Sunday Alliance is a network of trade unions, religious bodies and civil society organizations that want to raise awareness of the importance and value of a weekly day free from work. They also, ask for legislation at EU and Member States levels to be more protective of the health, safety, dignity of everyone and should more attentively promote the reconciliation of professional and family life.” [3]
This union of church and state that will work to pass Sunday laws signals a return to the type of religious persecution seen in history when liberty of conscience was overridden by church doctrine. Such legislation compromises the principles of religious liberty by compelling individuals to observe Sunday as the day of rest. This goes contrary to the conviction of those who honor the biblical Sabbath on Saturday.
Revelation 13 warns that the mark of the beast involves allegiance to human authority over God’s law, and the enforcement of Sunday, the mark of papal apostasy, would serve as a test of loyalty during the final crisis. Those who refuse to comply will face cancellation, economic penalties, persecution, and even death. Those who remain faithful during this time are described as those who keep God’s commandments and the faith of Jesus (Revelation 14:12) and will be vindicated at Christ’s Second Coming.
Prophecy is being fulfilled before our eyes as we witness events aligning with biblical predictions about the end times. Increasing global unrest, natural disasters, moral decline, the rise of technologies, and the calls to reinstate Constantine’s Sunday laws are reflective of the prophetic descriptions that tell us clearly that we are living in unprecedented times. These are not coincidences but divine warnings that point to the nearing of Christ’s return.
Will we not recognize the urgency of the hour? Now more than ever, people need to turn to Jesus, repent of their sins, share the everlasting gospel of Revelation 14, and prepare for His second coming.

Pope Francis Invites Joe Biden to the Vatican Before He Leaves the White House
On December 19, 2024, Pope Francis and outgoing US President Joe Biden held a telephone conversation yesterday in which they discussed social global issues, with particular attention to efforts to promote peace in the world. The call comes just weeks before Biden’s term ends, which will give way once again to Donald Trump, who swept the presidential elections held in November.
According to the White House, the US president expressed his gratitude to the Pope, which reflects Biden’s admiration for Pope Francis. The White House released the following statement:
• “Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke with His Holiness Pope Francis to discuss efforts to advance peace around the world during the holiday season. The President thanked the Pope for his continued advocacy to alleviate global suffering, including his work to advance human rights and protect religious freedoms. President Biden also graciously accepted His Holiness Pope Francis’s invitation to visit the Vatican next month.” [1]
This meeting will mark the symbolic end of the current US presidential term and underlines the importance of the relationship between the United States and the Holy See. This type of collaboration between the two beasts of Revelation 13 will continue to grow and will ultimately be seen as a necessary alliance for bringing permanent religious, social, and political change. Rome is taking a more active role in facilitating global policy, and politicians and governments are coming together to implement these so-called reforms. This trend towards political and religious unity is the foundation for the final crisis.Let us beware of such a union. Prophecy declares that such a framework will be used to implement the mark of the beast through the establishment of Sunday observance by law:
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8.
“And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” Revelation 13:12.
The above verses describe a religious requirement imposed by the state. The seed of this development will come as a result of the close cooperation between Rome and the United States. And although the whole world may be in favor of this cooperation, God is against it. The beast power of Revelation 13 will eventually pronounce a death penalty on those who refuse to worship the beast and receive his mark, but God will pronounce the penalty of everlasting death upon those who do (Revelation 14:9).The stage for this final conflict is unfolding before our eyes. Governments must be very careful not to participate in any attempt to impose religious propaganda on their people by law. That is not part of the state’s business, and religion is always in a much healthier spiritual condition when its doctrines are confined to its own legitimate sphere and away from politics. Establishing a religious test in these last days is something that God never authorized or commanded, and it will only bring persecution to minorities.

The only way the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) in the past has been able to persecute the saints of Jesus is that it has used the secular power of the kings and princes of the earth after converting them to its cause. (The 10 HORNS crowned in Rev.13:1)

These “arms” are the arms of the kings who ruled over the territory of the defeated/fallen Roman Empire of the West and who came to the aid of the papacy. The first to come to the aid of the papacy was the king of France Clovis around the beginning of the sixth century.

With Representatives from Various Churches, Pope Francis Launches 2025 Jubilee, a Project Aimed at Renewing the Catholic Faith
“The wide diversity of belief in the Protestant churches is regarded by many as decisive proof that no effort to secure a forced uniformity can ever be made. But there has been for years, in churches of the Protestant faith, a strong and growing sentiment in favor of a union based upon common points of doctrine.” (Great Controversy, p. 444).
A union between the churches is coming which will precede the Sunday law crisis and will involve the abandonment of clear biblical teachings. We were warned that Protestantism would adopt Catholic practices, leading to the development of a false universal system of worship. Today, Protestantism is truly becoming more and more like Rome every day—in terms of appearances, words, actions, characteristics, and faith. The Bible is becoming less meaningful and valuable in our day and age as Protestantism becomes more and more allied with the Catholic Church.The Vatican’s 2025 Jubilee, also known as a Holy Year, is a major religious event in the Catholic Church. According to the Catholic Standard, the official weekly newspaper for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, 2025 Jubilee is a special year of grace, prayer, and pilgrimage, offering an opportunity to renew the Catholic faith and receive special “plenary indulgences.” These Jubilees traditionally occur every 25 years, but what makes this year’s event unique is that for the first time, members of a multi-faith delegation participated with Pope Francis in “crossing” the threshold of the “holy door” located in St. Peter’s Basilica, representing a shared and visible sign of unity that Rome wants all Christians to participate in.
The Catholic Standard published the following on December 24, 2024:
• “In the quiet of Christmas Eve, Pope Francis opened the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, launching what he called a ‘Jubilee of Hope’.” [1]
• “The steps we now take are the steps of the whole church, a pilgrim in the world and a witness of peace,” the pope told the assembled cardinals, bishops, ecumenical guests and lay faithful in the atrium of the basilica.” [1]
• “Pope Francis prayed that the Holy Spirit would soften hardened hearts so that enemies may speak to each other again, adversaries may join hands and people seek to meet together.” [1]
• “Neither the Vatican press office nor the Jubilee press office released the names of the pilgrims or explained how they were chosen.” [1]
• “Also among the first to cross the threshold were representatives of other Christian churches.” [1]
The fact that many churches have joined Pope Francis in crossing the threshold into a new era of common witness in which adversaries have come together as friends is a necessary fulfillment of biblical prophecy that is needed for the implementation of the mark of the beast. The churches will not influence the state to impose the mark until all are united in one:
“The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience.” (Great Controversy, p. 588).
“When the leading churches of the United States, uniting upon such points of doctrine as are held by them in common, shall influence the state to enforce their decrees and to sustain their institutions, then Protestant America will have formed an image of the Roman hierarchy, and the infliction of civil penalties upon dissenters will inevitably result.” (The Great Controversy, p. 445)
We were warned that the time would come when Protestants, forgetting the principles of the Reformation, would seek common ground with the Roman Catholic Church. This is described as “reaching across the gulf” to clasp hands with Catholicism, motivated by a desire for unity and a consolidation of religious power. This act would be a betrayal of the Protestant history and heritage because the Reformation was founded on the principles that the Holy Scriptures are the ultimate authority in matters of faith and practice, which are in direct opposition to the principles of the 2025 Jubilee in Rome.We are seeing the final chapter of the Reformation as strange events, both in the religious and secular worlds, unfold before our eyes. The religious stage is being set. Almost all the churches have united. The Roman Catholic Church has apparently had the most to gain from the atmosphere of ecumenism. The entire world is being wooed to join the great apostate fellowship found in Revelation 13, 17, and 18.
The 500 years of rich Protestant history have been rejected, cast down, and “trodden under foot” (Daniel 8:14) as more and more Reformation churches line up to embrace their mother, Rome. Protestants used to reject the Pope’s claims of infallibility and supremacy as blasphemous during the Reformation era. They broke away from Rome because of her false doctrines. And what doctrines have changed in Catholicism since then? None.
Pope Francis has done more than any previous pope to unite Protestants and Catholics. One must grasp the magnitude of what is happening before our eyes: the complete surrender of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century.

Revelation 17 and its Kings
With the startling news of Pope Benedict’s resignation, countless expositors of Scripture
declared that his fall was part of the fulfillment of Revelation 17. Did Benedict’s fall have
anything to do with that chapter? Let us examine the cryptic symbols therein to ascertain the
truth.
Beginning in earnest at the time of the Reformation, the identity of the great whore of
Revelation 17 has not been in doubt. All of the Protestant Reformers agreed that the great whore
of Revelation 17 is the system of Roman Catholicism. Some of the more blatant characteristics
of the whore are the following:1. It unites with the leaders/state governments bringing the church and state together. (V.2)
2. It commits blasphemy. (V. 3)
a. This is claiming to be God. (John 10:30-33)
b. This is claiming power to forgive sins. (Matthew 2:5-7)
3. It is very wealthy. (V. 4)
4. It has killed millions of Christ’s followers for centuries. (V. 6)
5. Its geographical foundation is founded on 7 hills/mountains. (V. 9)
6. Its name is found in a great city in our world. (V. 18)
These characteristics led the reformers and honest Bible students to one obvious conclusion;
the whore is the papacy and only the papacy!! While the identity of the great whore is clear,
other parts of the chapter have baffled many for a long time. We will seek to understand those
difficult passages in this paper.
The time frame for this chapter can be deciphered by looking at Revelation 17:3. “So he
carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured
beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.” In order to behold the
workings of the papacy, John had to go into the wilderness. What does the wilderness represent
and when did the papacy go there? We know that the true church had to flee into the wilderness
during the Dark Ages. “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place
prepared of God that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.”
Rev. 12:6 The place where the true church fled was into seclusion and obscurity. “Persecution
opened upon the faithful with greater fury than ever before, and the world became a vast
battlefield. For hundreds of years the church of Christ found refuge in seclusion and obscurity.
Thus says the prophet: “The woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of
God that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and three-score days.” Revelation
12:6. The accession of the Roman Church to power marked the beginning of the Dark Ages.”
Great Controversy, pgs. 54, 55John, in Revelation 17:3 had to behold the papacy in seclusion and obscurity. When was
this? For over 1,000 years, the papacy wielded universal power; they surely weren’t in seclusion
and obscurity. A change occurred in 1798 when Pope Pius the 6th was taken captive and died in
exile. It was in 1798 that the papacy went into seclusion and obscurity. This is the time frame of
Rev. 17. Revelation 18:1 pinpoints another key event just into the near future. Rev. 18:1 reads,
“And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and
the earth was lightened with his glory.” This passage highlights the falling of the Latter Rain in
which the 3rd Person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit, will empower God’s children to:
1. Live the character of God in their own lives.
2. Preach the final message of warning to the world.
3. Prepare to stand through the 7 last plagues.
4. Enable them to stand when Jesus comes.
The time frame for these two chapters is from 1798 to the out pouring of the latter rain power
of the Holy Spirit. Within this time frame, we will now pick up the cryptic passages that baffle
so many. “And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the
mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten
horns. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit,
and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not
written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that
was, and is not, and yet is.” Rev. 17:7, 8
A beast is carrying the whore, giving her force, power, and authority. The beast is
intriguing because he has a time when he was powerful, then has a time when he isn’t existing,
and then he comes back to life one last time, only to go into oblivion! The beast has three
periods of existence. Rev. 17:11 also declares that “And the beast that was, and is not, even he is
the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.” The books of Daniel and Revelation
pinpoint several powers that impacted God’s people in dramatic ways. Rev. 17 mentions 7 of
them and tells us that the beast is the 8th and he is also one of the 7 powers!!
Who can this beast be? Given the characteristics, it becomes clear that the beast represents
the political power given to the papacy by the governments of the world. Notice, the political
powers gave the papacy their power during the Dark Ages. Then, in 1798, the papacy lost
political power, and since then, she has been gradually regaining that power! In the light of
Revelation’s picture of the papacy’s political power at a height, then losing it, and then regaining
it one final time, it becomes obvious that the New World Order today is not new at all. The New
World Order is simply the revival of the political power of Rome one last time!!
Well, then what about those other kings? “And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and
one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into
perdition.” Rev. 17:10, 11 Remembering clearly that the time frame for this passage is 1798-to the latter rain, which kings/kingdoms had fallen by the time of 1798? Bible prophecy
admits of none other. We behold through Revelation’s sister book, Daniel, the rise and fall of
kingdoms. We have in prophetic order:
1 Babylon 605-539 BC
2. Media-Persia 539-331 BC
3. Greece 331-168 BC
4. Pagan Rome 168 BC- to 476 AD
5. Papal Rome (holding political power given her by governments) 538-1798 AD
As John discussed the seven kings, he said that 5 had fallen and the time frame was 1798.
By 1798, the five fallen kingdoms were the ones just mentioned. From Babylon and
Nebuchadnezzar to the deadly wound of the papacy in 1798, we have five fallen kingdoms.
Then, John says, that there is one kingdom, and another that would come. Who might this
kingdom be that was in existence in 1798 and would grow into a superpower in this world?
What world power would have great weight in the effect it would have on God’s people?
Clearly, the nation referred to here is the United States. She fulfills every specification of
this portion of this prophecy. America was on the rise in 1798, would continue on its path to
being a superpower in this world, and had great influence on the work of God’s people.
Revelation 17, in finishing the discussion of the 7 kings/kingdoms, declares one other
power would arise sometime in the future and would continue for a short space. We are
fortunate to have the added light of 200 years of history since 1798. It seems clear that the
power described here would be atheistic Communism as seen in Russia. No other world
power in the last 200 years has influenced the world as has Russia. No other power has
affected the work of God’s people as Russia. While America has made possible the
promulgation of God’s truth throughout the world, Russia, for the greater part of this time,
has sought to squelch the work of God’s people in this world!
As we have already noticed, the beast is the 8th king/kingdom and is one of the original 7.
Looking over the 7 kingdoms, it is very obvious that the one kingdom that was powerful, went
into obscurity, and then rises again, can only be the political power of the papacy granted to them
one last time by the governments of the world. The papacy, the governments of the world, the
churches, and the financial elite, are warring with the Lamb, Jesus Christ today. The outcome of
this final battle is not left to doubt for we read, “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the
Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with
him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” Revelation 17:14God bless
