Hi KW,
Do you test your other sources against scripture?
“”The real topic is Sheol and my point that Jesus was legitimizing a Jewish teaching. It also whether the side of Hades the righteous go is called Paradise and the side the wicked go is called Tartarus.”
And you assume even that Jesus legitimised your sources?
March 9, 2015 at 9:35 am#790381kerwinParticipantGene,
I am not going to agree with your insistence that Jesus used an existing false teaching in his parable. The first book of Enoch which was written before Jesus was conceived of Mary speaks of Sheol, the land of the dead. Jesus describes it different but the bottom it was a teaching that was in existence at the time and the ones that heard him were familiar with some version of it, unlike us.
You are bold enough to say it is heretical at the same time you know Jesus used it in a parable. Did you consider what you are implying?
I am asking because you are claiming Jesus is a heretic.
March 9, 2015 at 9:36 am#790382kerwinParticipantNick,
I do.
March 9, 2015 at 9:41 am#790383NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
How can you say that when there is no verse that says what you found in other sources?
March 9, 2015 at 9:43 am#790384kerwinParticipantNick,
Jesus does not legitimatize my sources. My sources are just to determine the context of the time that Jesus lived and get rid of speculation. For example I use the book of 1 Enoch, whose teaching are half false.
March 9, 2015 at 1:09 pm#790386NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Half false?
March 9, 2015 at 1:59 pm#790392kerwinParticipantNick,
Yes.
March 9, 2015 at 2:14 pm#790393NickHassanParticipantHi KW,
Which half?
it was quoted by Jesus
March 9, 2015 at 2:39 pm#790394GeneBalthropParticipantKerwin……i never said Jesus used an “EXISTING” false teaching in his parables. Where did you ever get that idea from, what i said wad a parable is a fictious short story, used to illustrate a truth, its an “EXAMPLE” used to throw the average person off, it is not itself the real thing, but relates by EXAMPLE in some way to the real thing.
I really find it hard to believe you and NICK, DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS.
USING the book of Enock, or any past JEWISH ASSUMPTION about what happens after death, while all the time ignoring all the scriptures that clearly describe what happens after a person dies, that are written in our present scriptures. IS THAT WISE KERWIN?
peace and love to you and yours. …………….gene

Jesus in Jude, of course
March 9, 2015 at 5:27 pm#790403kerwinParticipantNick,
Those words that are confirmed by Scripture are known to be true, those that are denied by Scripture are false, those that are neither confirmed or denied by Scripture may or may not be true.
March 9, 2015 at 5:32 pm#790404kerwinParticipantGene,
You keep claiming a religious teaching of that day is false while knowing Jesus used in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. You have an issue where the two facts are not coming together for you. If they were you would not be calling the teaching false or you would have a reason why you believe Jesus uses a false teaching as the background of his parable.

………………………The Called
“As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.” (1 Thess 2:11-12)“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called” (Eph 4:1)
………………………The Chosen
“The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was
taken up, after that he through the HolySpirit had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen” (Acts 1:1-2)“But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he (Paul) is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles,
and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.” (Acts 9:15-16)___________

Do you think your choice of these words is exclusively true?
Were not all the vessels CALLED and CHOSEN?

You restrict the words of scripture to fit your own template.

Hi Nick,
Point #1. “Called” and “chosen” are NOT synonymous terms.
Point #2. There are considerably less “chosen” then “called” (few vs. many)
Point #3. I gave you one possible biblical meaning to those terms, which you seem to be rejecting. If you reject my terms, what do you say they mean?

There is evidence that Jude might have quoted from 1 Enoch but I am not sure it is the edition we have today. The Hades described in 1 Enoch has four parts and the the one Jesus used in his parable has two.

Hi Nick,
Eight souls would definitely be considered “FEW”, but
do have any verses that say these Eight souls were “CHOSEN”?
or is it simply OK to read the words into the text that you want to believe?………………………The Called
