Can you tell me! why Jacob wrestled with the Angels all night?
ZippyFebruary 3, 2005 at 3:18 am#5664NickHassanParticipantWelcome zippy.
Dunno.
I guess because he didnt want to give in and lose. He must have been a very determined fellow to sacrifice his sleep rather than concede.
The being he wrestled with was seen to be as a man. Jacob was convinced he had been wrestling with God. Since no man has seen God that wasn't true.
It was likely to be an archangel, perhaps the Angel of the Lord, as only they seem to appear as men and travel on specific errands for God.
He tested Jacob and could not defeat him but left him a painful physical reminder that men are not greater than God's angels to humble him.
That's my take anyway.January 30, 2010 at 2:01 pm#174520JustAskinParticipantNick,
I had been wondering about this myself.
I think this interpretation is the nearest to anything that I would believe.
Thanks for that.
God Bless you.
Zippy, thanks for asking that question.

i believe the reason why Jacob old fast to the angel was that he wanted to be blessed by him before let him go,
he knew he was a angel and because he held him till the angel had to leave ,the angel striked him but bless him as well.February 1, 2010 at 10:00 am#174875942767ParticipantHi:

Hi TT,
Many men thought they saw or spoke with God when they met with his spirits[angels]Are you saying that Jacob was wrong?
So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.” Genesis 32:30
Are you saying that spirits could take human form and not God who is also a spirit? Are you saying that spirits have more power than God?

Hi thethinker:
God may be seen through the works that HE does, but He himself is invisible, and so, as Jesus has said “He who has seen me has seen the Father”. How have we seen the Father when we have seen Jesus? It is through the works of obedience to God's Word that we have seen the Father.
And so, others may have seen God through the works that He did in the OT as well, but:
Quote
Jhn 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, [fn] who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared [Him].Quote
Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.Love in Christ,
MartyMarty,
Jacob was told that he wrestled with God. Jacob replied saying, “I have seen God face to face.”
24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.
26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.”
But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”
27 So He said to him, “What is your name?”
He said, “Jacob.”
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.”
And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there.
30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”You deny what the narrative says because you deny that God can become a man. The man with whom Jacob wrestled was God Himself in human form. Your argument is wholly presuppositional and is without any basis in exegesis.

Hi thethinker:
Jacob thought he had seen God, and God did speak to him through the man, but Jesus said no man has seen God at any time.
He also said God is a Spirit. A Spirit is invisible, and cannot be seen except through the works done by the spirit. The scripture also state that God is invisible.
And so, if Jacob thought that he had seen God with the naked eye, he was wrong.
He did wrestle with God and man and prevailed. He was a deciever, as the name Jacob testifies, and he stole his brother's birthrite, and then his blessing, and he wrestled with Laban as he worked to earn Rachel as his wife, and he wrestle with God in that he repented and God changed his name to “Israel” which means “prince with God”.
This who Jacob saw:
this is your quote but it is as clear as mud,i can't understand a thing of what you say,
you say Jacob wrestled with god - AuthorPosts
