Scripture says that Damascus will fall into ruin and will no longer exist as a city
Isaiah 17:1
The oracle concerning Damascus.
“Behold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city
And will become a fallen ruin.
Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It has been attacked and conquered a number of times in its long history. Yet Isaiah prophesied that it would fall into ruin and no longer be a city and clearly this has not happened yet.
Today Damascus like much of Syria is being bombarded by shells, bombs, and bullets, in a vicious civil war, Will Damascus fall as a result of this war? It certainly could. But there are other explanations. It could for example fall at the hands of Israel. If we read further into scripture, we know that Ezekiel talks about a war between Israel and Gog and Magog. And they attack Israel at an opportune time when their villages are unprotected which could be a result with a conflict between Israel and Syria.
We will obviously have to wait and see how these scriptures play out and in what order, but suffice to say that Damascus will be ruined to the point it will no longer be a city according to Isaiah. This has yet to be fulfilled and today we see major conflicts in this region with not only neigbouring Syria in turmoil, but threats of Iran wiping Israel off the map coupled with accusations that they are developing nuclear weapons. All the while Israel is surrounded by enemies and is very nervous.
Besides all these events happening today, is there anything else pointing to our time as being the time spoken of by Isaiah and Ezekiel. Yes there is another sign pointing to this time. There is an astronomical sign happening this year and next that could point to something serious happening to Israel and the Jews. Read the post “Four Blood Moons“.
Below are some pertinent snippets taken from Ezekiel 38 & 39 regarding a future conflict that takes place in the last days.
Ezekiel 38:8-12
8 After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the nations, and they are living securely, all of them. 9 You will go up, you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.”
10 ‘Thus says the Lord God, “It will come about on that day, that thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil plan, 11 and you will say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are at rest, that live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates, 12 to capture spoil and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places which are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired cattle and goods, who live at the center of the world.’……………..
14 “Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “On that day when My people Israel are living securely, will you not know it? 15 You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army; 16 and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog.”
I will hopefully add more about the Ezekiel scripture later as there is more to this story.
