Baptism in water unto the name of Jesus Christ is something you do out of “Faith”.

The baptism of the Holy Ghost and Fire is something that is given to you as a “Gift”.

If it says in the Bible to be baptized…we should be baptized.

    Quote

    Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Its a no brainier really. It don't get much plainer than that.
If we have a problem with this…then we have a problem with the word of GOD. And, if that is our problem then we have far worse things to worry about.

Wow finally someone who agrees with me… haven't viewed this is a while since it was moved…

It is as simple as that. We are told so it is simple. Do it…

Adam……then i would like to change my vote to NO. How can that be done?

    Supergeek,

It is clear that many mature Christians here do not believe that water baptism is necessary for salvation.

Has no one given you anything that you can use?

Is the idea that the water is symbolism not a good idea? Jesus uses water as an example of washing a few times. He talks about cleaning the outside of the cup, he talks about how water washes away dirt, he says we should wash one another's feet…… He says we are born of water (flesh) and *need to* be born again of the Spirit.

I agree with Gene that the baptism that comes from heaven is the one that is necessary for salvation. We must be born again of the Spirit. John's baptism was paving the way for Jesus to be the life-giving spirit which was poured on all who *believed*. I'm convinced this is why the thief on the cross was able to receive the invitation to paradise from the Lord. The thief believed who Jesus was and Jesus was becoming a life-giving spirit as his blood was being poured out.

Jesus' life-giving spirit is still being poured out today!

1.) Are you calling me immature?

2.) No. No one here has given me anything that I can use.

3.) None of you have yet to cite one verse that says it is a symbol…

    Bro Gene,

I'm assuming that the poll is for water baptism, but I could be wrong? It just seems like that is the topic of conversation – do all need to be water baptized before they receive salvation? I say no.

I'm doing OK, thanks for asking. Dan's “recovery” is going slow and I feel our relationship dying rather than being saved. But I'm trying not to lose hope. I just feel like I have done (and continue to do) all that I can. I suppose I could write a book on how to love and care for your man! But I cannot compete with with the bottle….

Yes this is for water baptism. I though I was the only one who voted yes to it…

    Hi not3,
Do you think we should alter the gospel because of weaknesses we think we have found in it?
God is merciful to save many outside of the way.

    Alter it? No.

But I do believe that when certain ones have come to conclusions based on their interpretation of that gospel, and there comes a time when they can see that there is potentially something wrong with their interpretation (i.e., water baptism being necessary for salvation and a child dying before they are able to be baptized), then their INTERPRETATION should be revisited, not the gospel altered.

    Hi not3,
    We should obey
and leave the rest to God should we not?

Yes we Should. It is up to GOD what happens in the end is it not???

    May GOD be with you,

OK, Supergeek, whatever you say. But it is helpful to broaden your view on things and the world. You don't have to buy what you are writing and proving, but it would help you to see another side of the issue. So many times that is exactly what is lacking in folks who will not budge from a belief – even if the belief can be proven wrong. Good luck and again, I'm so encouraged by your zeal for the Lord.

    Mandy,

If someone could prove me wrong I would change but since no one has yet to do this I have no reason to change. Perhaps you know a verse or two that says baptism isn't needed for salvation. If so I would be glad to see them.

    May GOD be with you,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,

The thing is, I have reviewed your threads and I do believe people have given you good verses and arguments, but you do not see their points of view as valid. I do, however see that water baptism is not essential for salvation.

Question: what if a child believes in Jesus but then dies before he or she can be water baptized? What becomes of them?

We are not to judge. That would be a matter for GOD to deal with. I believe since he/she had the intent to be baptized but was unable to be before he/she died he/she would be saved.

    Supergeek,

It sure sounds like an aweful lot of evidence out there…… You may want to look at it with an open mind. Do you know what is helpful for me, and what a professor in college once made a class of mind do? Pick a topic that you feel very strongly about, and are convinced of it's merit or rightful position, THEN write a paper on why it is the opposite.

So for you, write a paper on why baptism is not necessary for salvation (showing all scriptures that seem to say such). You may be surprised.

I have heard of that before. But to do that would be hypocritical to my belief.

And we all know what Jesus said about hypocrites.

And even if I was to I have not seen on passage that says it isn't needed…

    Supergeek,
I see you are an Administrator over at another site, as well you have taken a poll there regarding baptism and is it essential for salvation. The poll percentage reflects the same here as there. Have you changed your view at all because of this showing? :;):

Also, may I say that I am encouraged that you are studying the Word at such a young age. By the time your my age (40), you should know all the answers! :)

Take care Adam (yet another “Adam” here),

This is the 3rd poll with the same results. But it is still that no one has been able to prove to me that it isn't.

Nick….i just showed you, you just don't get it. Water baptism does NOT put you to death with Jesus it's is just symbolic of Spiritual Baptism, cant you see that.

Rom. 6:3 Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

Gal. 3:7 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ.

Maybe those verses will help you.
