    Yawn.

No, Andrew, I don’t see it as a curse at all.  I think the biblical writers were  unduly prejudiced here.  I am PCUSA and therefore affirm the rights of gays to be in the pulpit.  I champion sexual freedom.  I firmly believe that is God’s way.  I have a strong clinical-counseling educating and background, and I do not recognize gays and lesbian…[Read more]

Ed, Ehrman is a major, contemporary American biblical scholar and atheist who argues the trinity  entails  a corruption of Scripture.

    Hello, Marty,

First, I need to have a clearer understanding how you are using teh term “person.’  The Bible is not a book in metaphysics, as I have said many times already.  it does not speak of teh Trinity in terms of “substance” or “persons.”  These terms are exclusively the property of the  later Trinitarian formulations. The term “person” can…[Read more]

Actually, Ed, for the moment anyway, I’m just not interested in expanding my knowledge.  It’s been expanded  enough already. I have a doctorate in theology.  MY AOS is pneumatology.   That means I am well-educated on the Trinity.  After long years of continual input, I’m largely interested in my output, writing, continuing to publish, focu…[Read more]

    HI, again,again, again, Andrew,

It may well have been.  And why not?  Sex may well be a veiled quest for God.  You seek deep connectedness with your sexual partner, which leads you to feel deep connectedness to the universe, which leads you to feel deep connectedness to God. You know, you got me gong about good, old “Carmina Bruana.”  I’m gon…[Read more]

    Hi again, Andrew,

First of all, homosexuality was not  all taboo throughout the whole of the ancient world.  It was actually praised and encouraged in Greco-Roman culture.  Hence, Julius Caser was said to be the husband of every wife in Rome, and  the wife of every husband in Rome. Secondly, one’s  sexual orientation has much to do with how one…[Read more]

    Hi again, Andrew,

Yes, you are correct about Ehrman.  However, I say he is definitely anti-Trinitarian for the simple reason that Trinitarians affirm the Deity of Christ, and n the baisi of Scrioture,  which, obviously, he does not.

    Hi again, Andrew,

There’s more to it than just those references.  There is also  Philp. 2:6, 1 Cor. 15:45, etc.  In the NT, Christ is presented as Lord and Savior, and only the God who created you can save you. Also, the various  powers attributed to the Son and Spirit are the ones  only God has. So the Trinity has firm rooting in teh Bible.…[Read more]

    HI, Andrew,

Try those in the so-called  Minnesinger (Love Singer or Love Balladeer) tradition, which actually includes quite a few.  One major example is St.  John of the Cross, who speaks of  drinking teh sweet and pleasant spiritual ‘milk” because God now offers the soul  his “breast of tender love” to suck on. Hnece, his bridegroom mysti…[Read more]

That’s the point, Kerwin.  Actually, I had in mind something a bit different from the stone example, but let’s roll with how you answered here.   Omnipotence means God can do anything.  Well, you just shot that idea down by saying that there  is a limitation on God, that God can ever be more powerful than himself, that God can’t do anything abs…[Read more]

    Hi, Ed,

I just don’t have the time to do any further reading here.  I have a number of publications myself, including my dissertation.   However, I do not see fit to refer others to them, as I well know we all have very limited time.  What I try and do with my own material is work it in as best I can in my posts.

Well, Ed, seems like I have to go it alone, then.  If you don’t care enough about your material to clue me in , then I am really not going to worry about missing something truly important.  If you don’t consider it important enough to bring up here, I’m sure not going to worry about it, either.

Nick, please.  Could you give me some solid food, something really meaty to really think about, a challenge?  Again, all you are doing here is posting inflammatory rhetoric, not theology. Boring, very boring.

  • Profile picture of hoghead1

Your post has nothing to do with any of my previous ones.  I have no idea what brought it up.  Sound like  just another dose of your inflammatory rhetoric.

    Hello, Kerwin,

It is true that divine omnipotence is an ancient and venerable Christian tradition.   It is customary to think of God as a cosmic dictator, a Ruling Caesar.  However, I hold it is a major theological mistake. I see it as unbiblical, as a central biblical theme is that God is often deeply disappointed by what is happening, that it…[Read more]

    Hello, Ed,

No, that isn’t exactly what I intended to say.  But since you brought it up…Yes, at times, it is far more profitable to deal with an astute critic than just those who agree with you.  There is more of a challenge. The Bible says that we should be as iron upon iron, sharpening one another. Conflicts are great opportunities for p…[Read more]

Sorry, Nick, but, as I have pointed out to you a number of times, such inflammatory comments have absolutely no  place in a serious theological discussion.

I don’t think anyone is born homosexual or heterosexual.  We all innately, genetically have sexual impulses.  However, our sexual preferences are largely culturally determined. Also, sexuality more than just mere reproductive purposes. That’s why our sex  drives are far more active than what would be necessary for mere reproduction.  Sexual…[Read more]

Nick, the first rule of thumb in any serious theological discussions do not cast aspersion on the character of others.  That’s what you are doing here with me.  This appears to be a bad habit of yours.  If you cannot respond in an appropriate, respectful manner, I am just going to start ignoring your posts.
