What is money and how is it created?
The Bible talks about money a number of times. It doesn’t condemn money after all Jesus used money himself. But money can expose our priorities. Some people value money above all else. This is why it is written:
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
and
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
So money is fine. But when it becomes your master rather than a tool in your hand, then it is a problem.
Money itself is just a system of bartering using a common currency rather than swapping the goods directly. The latter is very inefficient. My 5 chickens may not exactly equal a sheep, but putting a currency value on chickens and sheep means I can sell the chickens for their exact worth and buy the sheep and perhaps have some money left over. This is better than the direct exchange of goods for a number of reasons including putting a more exact value on goods and the ability to buy and sell from people who have nothing I want in exchange. If we all use money, then we can buy from anyone and sell to anyone.
But how is money created today. Is it really created from nothing. And who has the authority to create it. All these questions and more are answered in this video.
