Is Speaking in tongues the only sign for Holy Spirit baptism?
April 15, 2009 at 6:08 pm#127739NickHassanParticipantHi and welcome RC,
No but it is a very valuable gift to have.
1 Corinthians 12
1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14For the body is not one member, but many.

Hi rajcharles:No, there will be definite change in person's life for the better.
And someone who has received the Holy Spirit will be zealous to share what they have found to be the truth about God, and sometimes they may be over zealous.
Love in Christ,

Did Jesus have the gift of speaking in tongues?
LUApril 16, 2009 at 6:02 am#127786NickHassanParticipantHi LU,
Yes.
Not recorded but we follow him.
Mark 6:46
And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.April 16, 2009 at 8:39 am#127795rajcharlesParticipantHi all,
IS If we speak in tongues, then it mean we are talking to God ?
1 Corinthians 14:2. Then why more peoples in our churches speak in tongues.ARE they got real spiritual gift? Else just imitating others. Is this gift ceased? or still there ?
April 16, 2009 at 8:46 am#127796rajcharlesParticipantHi Nick,
What is the clear meaning for this verse?Whether groanings from our spirit is called Speaking in tongues?Quote Romans 8:26
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.April 16, 2009 at 9:13 am#127800NickHassanParticipantHi RC,
Yes i.m.o.
1 Corinthians 14:14
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.1 Corinthians 14:15
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.April 19, 2009 at 2:05 pm#128041rajcharlesParticipantWhat you are coming to say?
Give me clear explanation.April 19, 2009 at 5:40 pm#128046bodhithartaParticipantMany times we see in certain churches people who are said to have the spirit not only speaking in unknown tongues but also being tossed about and at times falling to the floor.
We have not seen in the gospels Jesus act in such a manner in-fact he soothed those who had a bad spirit from those same traits that is not to say that speaking in tongues is not of God but the amazing thing is at the day of pentecost those present spoke in tongues foreign to them but not foreign to the people hearing God be praised in known languages.
For instance if someone has the spirit come upon them and start speaking russian and there is someone russian who understands and the person speaking has never even heard russian that would be an excellent example.
Acts 2:10-12 (King James Version)
10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
April 21, 2009 at 8:09 am#128251rajcharlesParticipantHi bodhitharta,
You are correct, but in our churches , people are making the same sound from their baptism to the end of their life.Even they dont think what is the purpose of this gift , others are making sound, so we should also make that sound otherwise other believers think about us badly. This is common in churches. They have only one single sentence in their mind.Pastors also emphasizes that single sentence agin and again and ask them to Speak
1Co-14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. .So speaking in tongues is not a sign for Holyspirit Baptism. Its a Gift of Holyspirit to preach the gospel to other language peoples.
