    Hi,
God uses the simile of a vessel to describe the nature of man not infrequently in the bible.
    Is 45.9
” 9″Woe to the one who (D)quarrels with his Maker–
An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth!
Will the (E)clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?'
Or the thing you are making say, 'He has no hands'?”

    Jer 19.9
” 10″Then you are to break the (B)jar in the sight of the men who accompany you

11and say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Just so will I Âbreak this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter's vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will (D)bury in Topheth because there is no other place for burial.

12″This is how I will treat this place and its inhabitants,” declares the LORD, “so as to make this city like Topheth.”

    Prov 26.22f
” 22The (A)words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels,
And they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
23Like an earthen (B)vessel overlaid with silver Âdross
Are burning lips and a wicked heart.
24He who (D)hates disguises it with his lips,
But he lays up (E)deceit in his heart.”

    Lk 11.39
“39But (A)the Lord said to him, “Now (B)you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness”

    Rom 9.21f
21Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?

22What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much (A)patience vessels of wrath (B)prepared for destruction?

23And He did so to make known Âthe riches of His glory upon (D)vessels of mercy, which He (E)prepared beforehand for glory,”

    2Tim 2.20f
” 20Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and (A)some to honor and some to dishonor.

21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from (B)these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, Âprepared for every good work.”

    2Cor 4.7
“7But we have this treasure in (A)earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of (B)the power will be of God and not from ourselves;”

    And 1 thess 4.4, 1 Peter 3.7 etc

    Vessels are containers for liquid.
Soul vessels are containers designed to hold the treasure of the Spirit of God, and just as Christ was filled with the Spirit so can our vessel be..

Hi Vessels are made to be filled.
The vessel of man was made to be filled with the Spirit of God. Here is JtB
    Lk 1.15
” 15For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will (A)drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother's womb”
    Elizabeth
    Lk 1 41f
” 41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was (A)filled with the Holy Spirit.

42And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb”
    Zachariah
    Lk 1.47
” 67And his father Zacharias (A)was filled with the Holy Spirit, and (B)prophesied, saying..”
    the disciples
    Acts 2.4
” 4And they were all (A)filled with the Holy Spirit and began to (B)speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.”

    Jesus
    Lk 4.1
” 1(A)Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, (B)returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness “

    Hi,
The unity we share with Jesus and with His Father
is that of the Father's Spirit
filling the Glorious vessel that is Jesus
and the earthenware vessels of men
    unto eternity.

    Hi ,
Jesus told the Pharisees that they should wash the inside of the cup. He told them they were full of dead men's bones and sin. Only God can wash us internally by the blood of the Lamb, and that comes by following the way of Jesus into rebirth through the gate into the kingdom.

    Quote
    ps,
    Just as was Christ,
“9For in Him all the (D)fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,”

    Ephesians 3:19
“and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God [Gr. Theos]

    Colossians 2:9
For in Him all the fullness of Deity [Gr. Theotes] dwells in bodily form

The problem here is “theos” and “theotes” are two different Greek words and denote entirely different things.

Theotes is used in Colossians 2:9 as actually an abstract noun for ‘theos’. It does not designate that Jesus was filled with the Father Himself. Paul would have used the noun ’theos’ if he wanted to convey this (note that Jesus is also said to be IN the Father in John 10:38; 14:10, 11; 17:21). Nor can you translate “theotes” to mean a simple quality or attribute (“theiotes” would be the appropriate word for this), it goes well beyond this, and instead refers to ‘divine essence’.

Thayer’s lexicon defines theotes as the “state of being God”.

Vine’s Expository Dictionary of NT words records this:

”…But in the second passage (Col. 2:9), Paul is declaring that in the Son there dwells all the fullness of absolute Godhead; they were no mere rays of Divine glory which gilded Him, lighting up His Person for a season and with a splendor not His own; but He was, and is, absolute and perfect God; and the Apostle uses theotes to express this essential and personal Godhead of the Son” (Trench, Syn. ii). Theotes indicates the “Divine” essence of Godhood, the personality of God; theiotes, the attributes of God, His “Divine” nature and properties.

Considering all the Greek in Col 2:9, Paul affirmed that the fullness of the divine essence has permanently settled in Jesus' body, an emphatic statement of absolute Deity, and biblical language like this is NEVER applied to any other than Yahshua…..”Theotes” is never applied to believers……

To paraphrase Paul's conveyence in Col 2:9 – Yahshua was walking deity…..

    John 18:5-6
5They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them. 6So when He said to them, “I am He,” (Gr. ego eimi = “I AM”) they drew back and fell to the ground.

    Hi Is 1.18
You still have a problem is that deity DWELLS IN Christ.

It does not say IS Christ.
    It says DWELLS IN Christ.

Did the trinity God dwell in him?

How about comparing with Col 1.19

“19For it was (A)the Father's good pleasure for all (B)the fullness to dwell in Him,”

    Again DWELL IN him.

Dwell 2730 katoikeo; To inhabit, to settle

    Col 2.9 9
“For in Him all the (A)fullness of Deity dwells[2730] in bodily form,”

    Col 1.19
“9For it was (A)the Father's good pleasure for all (B)the fullness to dwell[2730] in Him,”

    Compare
    Acts 7.48
” 48″However, (A)the Most High does not dwell[2730] in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says”:
    Acts 17.24
” 24″(A)The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is (B)Lord of heaven and earth, does not Âdwell [2730]in temples made with hands;”
    Eph 3.17-19
” 17so that (A)Christ may dwell[2730] in your hearts through faith; and that you, being (B)rooted and Âgrounded in love,

18may be able to comprehend with (D)all the saints what is (E)the breadth and length and height and depth,

19and to know (F)the love of Christ which (G)surpasses knowledge, that you may be (H)filled up to all the (I)fullness of God”
    Rev 11.10
“10And (A)those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will (B)send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented Âthose who dwell [2730]on the earth”

    Matt 23.20f
” 20″Therefore, whoever swears by the altar, swears both by the altar and by everything on it.

21″And whoever swears by the temple, swears both by the temple and by Him who (A)dwells[2730] within it.”

    Heb 11.9
” 9By faith he lived as an alien in Âthe land of promise, as in a foreign land, (D)dwelling[2730] in tents with Isaac and Jacob, (E)fellow heirs of the same promise;”

This word is not used to describe a deity being but a deity dwelling in a being.

Colossian 2:9 records“For in Him all the fullness of Deity (Gr. Theotes) dwells in bodily form.” (NASB). “Dwells” is the translation from the Greek word “katoikeo”, meaning “to permanently settle down in a dwelling.” “Fullness” is from the Greek word “pleroma” indicating that which “is filled up.” Theotes is used in this verse as an abstract noun for ‘theos’. It does not designate that Jesus was filled with the Father Himself. Paul would have used the noun ’theos’ if he wanted to convey this (note that Jesus is also said to be IN the Father in John 10:38; 14:10, 11; 17:21). Nor can you translate “theotes” to mean a simple quality or attribute, it goes well beyond this, and instead refers to ‘divine essence’ or simply put the essence of what makes God….well…God!

Paul, in Colossians 1:19, could not have used stronger language to state the Yahshua was God incarnate. His deity was not simply a function of an indwelling, every cell in His body was pure deity. Deity was intrinsic to Him – His permanent possession, that is what the verse is saying. Even His dead body was considered deity!

    John 19:36-37
36For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. 37And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

Here John records that Jesus Christ literally fulfilled the Zech 12:10 prophecy at His crucifixion; This specific prophecy was made by YHWH (through Zechariah), and He declared that He would personally fulfill it.

    Zechariah 12:1-10
1The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD [YHWH], which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. …9And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10And I [YHWH] will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me [YHWH] whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Only YHWH could fulfill this prophecy, because it was made specifically OF YHWH. It cannot be fulfilled by proxy. It unmistakeably shows that Yahshua is YHWH, but crucially He fulfilled it after He had died. When the soldiers looked upon His lifeless body, i.e after His spirit and the spirit of His Father had left Him, they were still looking upon YHWH. According to John His lifeless body was still Deity. Therefore, the false assumption that His divinity was solely a function of the indwelling presence of His Father is solidly debunked by this verse.

    Food for thought.

    Blessings

    Hi Is 1.18,
    Looking at Col 2.9. 1.19. 2 Cor 5.19
What is obvious is that something was in something.
One part was a vessel and one part the contents of that vessel.
    So tell me plainly.

    Was God in Jesus?
    Was God in God?
    Was Jesus in himself?

    Hi Is 1.18,
    You said;
“Paul, in Colossians 1:19, could not have used stronger language to state the Yahshua was God incarnate. His deity was not simply a function of an indwelling, every cell in His body was pure deity. Deity was intrinsic to Him – His permanent possession, that is what the verse is saying. Even His dead body was considered deity!”

What does this mean. If 'every cell of his body was pure deity'
    then
    you are saying;

He is just a physical being. Even we are more than that.
Mary was not his true mother.Scripture say he was conceived in Mary.
He was not the Son of Man or the son of David. He had no genes of Adam.
He was not like unto us. Scripture says he was but you would not say that about us.
He was not the Son of God. He was still part of God or he would be another god.
We cannot follow him. He had huge advantages.

And you deny the simple explanation of Scripture that God was in him reconciling the world to Himself.

    Hi,
Jesus spoke of living water-the Spirit of God-which become in us a fountain or well flowing to eternal life.

This water ios from God's Spirit.
    Jer 17.13f
    ” 13O LORD, the (A)hope of Israel,
All who (B)forsake You will be put to shame
Those who turn away on earth will be ©written down,
Because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the LORD.”

    as Jesus showed

    Jn 4.13f
    “13Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;

14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him (A)shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to (B)eternal life.”

    Jn 7.37-38
“37Now on (A)the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “(B)If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

38″He who believes in Me, ©as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of (D)living water.'”

39But this He spoke (E)of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for (F)the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet (G)glorified.”

We must have our vessels cleansed to serve the living God and hold this living water.

    2Tim 2.20f
” 20Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and (A)some to honor and some to dishonor.

21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from (B)these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, ©prepared for every good work.”

    Hi Nick

Surley not in the full measure in which He dwelt in His only begotten son though?

Surley in a measure in each of us, in many members making up one body,
as opposed to the measure of fullness in which he dwelt in the one member of the vessel called His beloved son… a measure which is yet called all the fullness of God insomuch as the same Spirit of God in the fullness of attributes exists in each one.
So to illustrate – Jesus had the whole ocean in him. We by comparison have but a drop of the same. Yet one drop of the ocean contains all of the elements of the ocean…

    Hi Malcolm,
    Exactly.
    The full measure
    in the Son of God,
    the Spirit of Christ,
is now shared with all the members of Christ's body on earth
so that we all express in some little way the nature and gifts of that Spirit,
so God can be all in all.
