Oh Ed, no, I still can't – well, I can – it takes ages to load – but I hardly ever do.

    See you Ed.

    shimmer,
I haven't been in a church where anyone acts 'drunk in the spirit.' I have heard about this happening though. I do believe that evil spirits can affect Christians if they 'open the door' in certain ways. Have you ever researched 'religious spirits?' You are right in that we have to be careful to discern with the help of the Holy Spirit and not our own fears or experiences. The church that I go to leans towards the conservative behavior. Occasionally people lift their hands in worship or stand up when most are sitting. The church is very cautious about 'experiences.' Churches have different personalities. Another church that I go to during their conference is of the same denomination as the one I attend but they are more expressive and many swarm the front near the altar when encouraged. The people there seem to be more emotional and free to express those emotions.

You asked about being slain in the spirit…well, there seems to be possible evidence of that. Men fell prostrate as a dead man when met with an angel at times:

Daniel 8:15When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; and behold, standing before me was one who looked like a man. 16And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, and he called out and said, “Gabriel, give this man an understanding of the vision.” 17So he came near to where I was standing, and when he came I was frightened and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the vision pertains to the time of the end.”

18Now while he was talking with me, I sank into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and made me stand upright. 19He said, “Behold, I am going to let you know what will occur at the final period of the indignation, for it pertains to the appointed time of the end.

If someone were to fall down and stay there, at my church, the medical team would quickly move into action and help them to leave and likely go to the hospital. If it happened at the other church, someone might cover them up for modesty sake and leave them alone.

My comment in my last post though, was specifically regarding the part that I had quoted regarding your resource. I was wondering if you can agree that his statement was in error?

“Nothing supernatural should be felt by the senses, but by the spirit. . .Counterfeits of today are generally wrought upon the soulish – or sense life – of believers who have not learnt to distinguish between soul and spirit.” Jessie Penn Lewis The Spiritual Warfare, pgs. 16-17

Healing is supernatural and is certainly felt by the senses. I would say that this statement is inaccurate from your resource. I can think of plenty of supernatural events that Jesus performed that were seen and or felt.

    The calming of the sea.
    The huge catch of fish.
    The physical healings.
    The feeding of thousands.

How about Pentecost and the supernatural occurrences that were felt by the senses:

Yes, the above quotes ARE experienced with the senses. But I believe the Author is talking about something else.

Think about what is happening to these people:

Jerking movements of the body.. collapsing on the floor and laughing.. smelling unusual smells.. etc..

OK, so, we have the five senses: vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch..

When in the spirit I have experienced joy and euphoria.
When in the spirit I have cried (with love).

When in the spirit I have experienced dreams and visions.
When in the spirit I have heard God.
When in the spirit I have seen God.

But none of these were experienced by my senses.
The body, and the spirit are two different things, do you agree, Kathi?

(This will have to be my last post, for a while. (It's a long story!).”

    shimmer,
The body and the spirit are two different things, true. However, what we sense in our spirit isn't always of God and what we sense with our physical senses isn't always of God. Our emotions can deceive us just as much, if not more than our physical senses. We really do depend on and trust Jesus to shepherd us and protect us because we can be so easily deceived.

    Take care…I wish you well.
