Hi,
Soldiers Bill and Ben were sent up a hill to check for the lay of the land and to look for the enemy positions.
After climbing for a while they found a lovely log to sit on and rest that looked out over their valley.
Ben said.
“What a pleasure it is to serve our commander. What a view! You can see over the beautiful valley with it's neat rows of grapes, all the houses and trees. I can even see over the Cook Strait to Wellington. There is the track we came up. Let's just stay here and rest and later head back home and tell him what we saw.”
Bill remonstrated with him and reminded him they were not yet at the top of the hill. He reminded Ben of their specific instructions and said their work was not yet done.
Ben said
” From where I sit I cannot see any further track to walk on. I am doing as I was told and looking for the enemy and I can see none from here”
Bill said
” But that is because you are facing in the wrong direction Ben.The rest of the climb is behind us and we do not know what is up there”
“Exactly” said Ben” We are safer here. We simply do not know what risks we would be taking. It is likely there would be mists and strong winds. The higher we go the more likely we are fall or to get lost. We may even run into enemy forces or perhaps wild animals. What use are we as scouts if we die and are unable to go back and warn the others?”
“But Ben” said Bill” That is why we are armed and supplied with food and with protective equipment. That also is why there are two of us so that if one dies the other may be able to go back and warn the others. Our job is to try and save the others in our platoon, not necessarily ourselves”
” You must be joking Bill” said Ben” I am here to do my basic duty and save my own butt for another day. You may like to play the hero and make the boss happy but I think he is just a selfish bully. Where is he now? Why did he not come?”
” He did Ben” said Bill” and it cost him his life. Have you not see those terrible scars. He came alone when we were being trained and was captured and tortured and murdered. He had to be resuscitated and even brought back from the dead to be our commander. At least we should take the same risks for our friends as he did for us”July 20, 2006 at 9:57 pm#22518CubesParticipantGood story telling, Nick. Reminded me of this true parable told by the Lord. As people read it, please note that the nobleman went to receive a kingdom and then returned after receiving that kingdom. Blessings.
Luke 19:11 Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately. 12 Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten *minas, and said to them, 'Do business till I come.' 14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We will not have this man to reign over us.'
15 “And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16 Then came the first, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned ten minas.' 17 And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.' 18 And the second came, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned five minas.' 19 Likewise he said to him, 'You also be over five cities.'
20 “Then another came, saying, 'Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. 21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.' 22 And he said to him, 'Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow. 23 Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?'
24 “And he said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' 25 (But they said to him, 'Master, he has ten minas.') 26 'For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 27 But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.'” - AuthorPosts
