Hi Everyone
Is anyone familiar with Herbert W Armstrongs teachings?November 4, 2006 at 8:39 am#32098NickHassanParticipantHi debra,
I have taken some interest in his teachings which seem mixed. What are your views?November 4, 2006 at 9:02 am#32099DebraParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ Nov. 04 2006,08:39) Hi debra,

Hi Nick
Nice to talk to you again.
My husband recieves the Trumpet every month for the last 2 years. He did the bible study over a period of months and his opinion is the teaching is good, but he thought too legalistic when it came to the do”s and Don'ts.
The teaching on Born Again got my attention. My husband believes that you are not born again until you are ressurected, this is what they taught. I do not wish to get into the born again topic, I've just used this as an example of the teachings as far as I know.
My husband has taken an interest in this forum due to my involvement, but he dosn't think his English is good enough to partisipate so has asked me to ask on his behalf to put this question to the forumNovember 4, 2006 at 9:26 am#32100NickHassanParticipantHi debra,
I agree with the legalism. The OT law is strongly emphasised but we are gentiles and were never under that Law. They did show me the millenium kingdom which I had been unfamiliar with and I found their respect for the Word to be admired.November 4, 2006 at 10:21 am#32101DebraParticipantHi NIck
The articles I have read really packed a punch, got me thinking, seriously about preparing for the coming of the Lord, sometimes I need a reality hit, and to have my very foundations shaken. Do you subscribe to the Trumpet?November 4, 2006 at 7:32 pm#32102NickHassanParticipantQuote (Debra @ Nov. 04 2006,10:21) Hi NIck

No debra,
Sometimes I watch the TV version “Tomorrow's world”November 4, 2006 at 10:44 pm#32103ProclaimerParticipantTaken from their website, the following is their creed or belief statement:
In one holy, loving, all-powerful and gracious Creator God who exists in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
That Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully human, is both Lord and Savior.
That Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross for human sin, that he was raised bodily on the third day, and that he ascended to heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.
That Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead and to reign over all things.
In the Holy Spirit, who brings sinners to repentance, who gives eternal life to believers, and who lives in them to conform them to the image of Jesus Christ.
That the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, fully authoritative for all matters of faith and practice.
That Christians should gather in regular fellowship and live lives of faith that make evident the good news that humans enter the kingdom of God by putting their trust in Jesus Christ.
In the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
That salvation comes not by works, but only by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
In the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Most of these points are good. I disagree with the first 2 points of course, but this shows that they are built on the foundation of the Trinity. I actually thought that they didn't believe in the Trinity.
They also say the following:
The Worldwide Church of God is a Christian denomination with about 64,000 members, worshiping in 860 congregations in about 90 nations. We began in Oregon in 1933 and are now headquartered in southern California. We are members of the National Association of Evangelicals.
So they admit that they are a denomination, which of course is exactly what they are.
My take is that Christians exist in and outside if this organisation. I believe that it is important that we recognise the true body around us and that we fellowship in the name of Jesus Christ and not the name of WCG or any other denomination.
November 4, 2006 at 10:55 pm#32104ProclaimerParticipantRomans 8:16
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.Romans 8:16 speaks of two witnesses, the Holy Spirit and our human spirit. They both bear witness that we are the sons of God.
This in keeping with the OT principle that all matters need to be verified by at least two witnesses?
To be born-again or born from above means that we have the Spirit of God. The Spirit and our spirit are witnesses to the fact that we are God's children. So yes we can be born from above now, and this is how we know that we are God's children.
Romans 8:15 says:
15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”So it clearly says that we HAVE received a spirit, the spirit of sonship. Clearly this is not talking about a future event.

When Armstrong died so did Armstrongism. He was like no other in his time. He preached a gospel of Christianity gone wrong which caught me eye. The old man is right I would say to myself. But then as all denominations they fall off the cliff. Armstrong taught that America, Briton, coastal Islands, are the lost ten tribes of Israel.Herbert W Armstrong taught that God was NOT a Trinty. That you were not born again until the resurrection. He also taught that God was not trying to save the world now but was actively grathering His government officials for the new world. During the millennium is when God's government will be in charge for 1000 years then as scripture says “Satan was set loose” to tempt the “new christians”. He also gave very interesting history of pagan days such as Christmas, Easter and the such. But he kept all the feast days even those that Jesus fulfilled (Luke 24:44).
I'm not going to judge the man but I will say I enjoyed his program “The World Tomorrow” it was interesting and different. He taught and gave away ecuational books etc. He said that freely he received and freely he was to give. You only paid if “they chose you” to be in their Worldwide Church of God. Overall I like him for his time but just couldn't see keeping Passover when Jesus IS our Passover (1 Cor. 5:7).

I see both the Worldwide church of God and the concordant group sprang from the JWs

C T Russell
“Following Russell's death controversy arose over the practices of the new president of the Society, and a widespread schism erupted which divided the movement. The majority of the membership broke away, eventually resulting in the formation of several smaller groups known as Bible Students, while those who remained in fellowship with the Watch Tower Society took on the name Jehovah's Witnesses. Several denominations later formed around, or adopted some style of, Russell's views, among them the Worldwide Church of God, the Concordant Publishing Concern and the Assemblies of Yahweh. Among the numerous Bible Student off-shoot groups include the Pastoral Bible Institute, the Layman's Home Missionary Movement.”August 24, 2008 at 1:29 pm#102784theodorejParticipantQuote (Nick Hassan @ Nov. 04 2006,20:26) Hi debra,

Greetings Debra…..I have studied HWA over the years and I find myself agreeing with his teachings for the most part with emphasis on the born again belief, the identity of the lost tribes and the necessity to keep Gods' holydays as presented in Lev:23….There are many other teachings which for the most part I either agree with or I am still studying….The OT is the portion of the Bible which contains the law and that law has not changed whether you consider yourself a gentile or not….For Jesus said he did not come to change the law but to full it….and we are all under the law….It is a wise person who seeks the spirit of Gods teachings as set forth in the Bible and to devote less time to the letter as written… - AuthorPosts
