So What you WOULD EVEN go as far back to say. is the Disciples would not or is that will not change their minds at any time. wow! an neither can the scientists because you might end up to be wrong?
November 2, 2011 at 8:36 am#261678ProclaimerParticipantMy point is that these quoted scientists have the same questioning as someone today. There is little difference in 1800, 1900, or 2000 years as these are mere hours to a God who can see a thousand years as one day. And I tend to think that if you believed in the eighteenth century, then why would you doubt in the twentieth century based on a delayed coming, which is a matter of hours on the timetable that God has set.
Also, there are many references to the delay of his coming and this is appropriate for a God who is patient and not willing to see any perish.
But I agree that for some mere men, 2000+ years will be too much and their faith will wane as the following scriptures attest. But I repeat that if the delayed return doesn't affect someone 1800 years from the first visitation, then will another 200 or so years make a huge difference? I don't think it does, but it is possible that another 200 years might be the straw that broke the camels back for some individuals, though I doubt any of these scientists I quote would fall away due to that. But never say never as the saying goes.
Here are some scriptures that attest to the delayed return of our Lord.
Matthew 24:36-50
36“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,f but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.
See that. In the above text Jesus says that after a delay, one servant will be ready on his return while another will decide that he is taking too long and start acting in a way as to not be ready when he does come. Worst still, for that servant the day will come like a thief in the night.
Mark 13:32
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. 34 For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch. The above verse also alludes to a long time period.
Revelation 3:3
If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.November 2, 2011 at 9:23 am#261679charityParticipantYES, well even if some of them said it would be longer than generation, then they themselves are stabbing in the light.
these guys would be no different to the internal christian battle where the not so convinced stand on the sideline an say, ya know you all may be off the beaten track!can you even let three wise men change the bright star they followed to a bright shining planet.
The tree of Knowledge.. Adam an eve, they thought they were never going to Die, hands over ear's, don't tell us for if we hear, it shall be revealed we surly will die. so don't ever listen to a knowledge, that you might make you become like God. an just not sit there to say, he said no!

Greetings T8 …… I agree with your premise in principle, however, what distinguishes these times from those of the past and, with all due consideration for Gods concept of time .. is this … The times that we are in are unlike any other time simply because man now has the ability to destroy all life on this planet, where in times past that ability was not available to man…. and for this reason Gods words tell us that these days will shortened for the elects sake…November 2, 2011 at 7:34 pm#261718charityParticipantAlso things Like Moses turning the water to blood an not changing it Back?

Actually that is likely understood. It is quite a natural occurrence or man-made occurrence where rivers can die. Many such as yourself often write off what is written in scripture because of the expression of language. Such is judging the past with the values of today. Scientific language today is not the same as observational language of the past.Exodus 7:17–18
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.Natural explanation
The redness in the Nile could have actually been pollution caused by volcanic activity, specifically that of Santorini, which erupted around 1500 B.C. and whose ash is found in the Nile region. The silt could make the Nile turn blood red, and would also render it undrinkable. Heavy rains in the red-soiled area of Lake Victoria could have caused reddened water to wash downstream.
Alternatively, a red toxic algal bloom (red tide) could have produced large quantities of toxins that would kill fish. (Also, an environmental change, such as a drought, might have turned the water red, following the death of fish.)Plague 2 – Frogs
Any blight on the water that killed fish also would have caused frogs to leave the river and probably die.Plagues 3 and 4 – Biting insects and flies
The lack of frogs in the river would have let insect populations, normally kept in check by the frogs, increase massively.Plagues 5 and 6 – livestock disease and boils
There are biting flies in the region which transmit livestock diseases; a sudden increase in their number could spark epidemics.Plagues 5 and 6 – Livestock disease and boils
There are biting flies in the region which transmit livestock diseases; a sudden increase in their number could spark epidemics.Plague 7 – Fiery hail
Volcanic activity not only brings with it ash, but brimstone, and also alters the weather system, occasionally producing hail. Hail could also have occurred as a completely independent natural weather event, with accompanying lightning as the “fire”.Plague 8 – Locusts
The weight of hail will destroy most crops, leaving several insects and other animals without a normal food source. The remaining crops therefore would become targeted heavily, and thus be destroyed by swarms of locusts which would otherwise be distributed rather thinly. Or the locusts could have increased because of a lack of predators. Even without these explanations, swarms of locusts are not uncommon today.Plague 9 – Darkness
There could be several causes for unusual darkness: a solar eclipse, a sandstorm, volcanic ash, or simply swarms of locusts large enough to block out the sun.Plague 10 – Death of the firstborn
If the last plague indeed selectively tended to affect the firstborn, it could be due to food polluted during the time of darkness, either by locusts or by the black mold Cladosporium. When people emerged after the darkness, the firstborn would be given priority, as was usual, and would consequently be more likely to be affected by any toxin or disease carried by the food. Meanwhile, the Israelites ate food prepared and eaten very quickly which would have made it less likely to be infected.Above is taken from Wikipedia. Below from Revelation.

We live in a world that has mass differing opinions on all things, science included.
That is because we (humans) do not know everything, are fallible, and tend toward bias. That is our nature. However, when you have touched God you know it. When you have religion only, you have an understanding, but understanding can change.
Without the right spirit, a person can only imagine from the darkness what reality really looks like. Everything else but God is temporary or changing. God changes not.

But writing them off because they seem impossible is what I am advising against.
The theories were posted only to see possibilities.Obviously God is the author of nature and uses natural processes when you line up plagues with how they play out. But he can also move outside of nature into super nature (supernatural) too.

November 4, 2011 at 10:05 am#261823princessParticipantPrince Stuart,
By my understanding, the passage represents the genre of mercy, not of change. In Christianity one may perform a ritual asking God that mercy be granted. So God is not changing his mind, he is giving mercy to his people.
Rituals are affluent through religion and are taken very seriously.
Do hope all is well with you.

nacham (repented/Strongs)
A primitive root; properly to sigh, that is, breathe strongly; by implication to be sorry, that is, (in a favorable sense) to pity, console or (reflexively) rue; or (unfavorably) to avenge (oneself): – comfort (self), ease [one’s self], repent (-er, -ing, self).
Hello Timothy V,
Expanding on the passage a bit. Every religion has its own dictionary of terms. Using the Christian go to dictionary you will see that the meaning of repented is not change. The passage is considered to be more of mercy and grace.
Even though the passage does to the average reader show change, the Christian will only use their proper dictionary to understand the meaning. Tis the Christian thought process. You can buck and kick until the cows come home, not going to change their minds on what the passage represents. For the Christian it only shows His (being the Christian God) love, grace and mercy. And what a loving God can and will do when a ritual is presented. Which will bring on the passage a righteous mans prayers availeth much. Which I am sure the added comment of perhaps you should try it, pray to God and see what he can do for you. However, this is just a copy and paste of what is usually told to ones that do not believe in the Christian God. Leaving the reader at a complete loss of comprehending anything, which in turn the Christian will say well I can understand why you cannot due to you do not have God in your life, then it just becomes a vicious circlular coversation that really leads no where.
Now, my own thoughts, I cannot hold this God in ill will, due to many times I have chosen to wear an outfit the next day to work and woke up not wanting to wear the outfit, which usually makes me run a little late. But all in all it perhaps was a good thing that this God did go another route, more bloodshed is not good for business, unless your in the business of shedding blood.
I do hope you are well.
Much love
