A problem with my believing came about when I read a (dangerous) misinterpretation of of Hebrews 10:26. I've had problems staying stable in the past, so I thought this verse applied to me. Later that night, I couldn't sleep. I felt horrible, like I should die. was thinking of ways to ease the pain or end my life, because a life with God is like a light that doesn't light. I was thinking, “Should a take up smoking? Commit sui–Wait a minute.”
That was when I realized the true source of the fear and lies. God certianly wouldn't provoke his son to death and destruction when he honestly seeks him. God does not abandon those who seek him in fact, he rewards them, which is explained later in Hebrews 11 (after the misinterpreted verse). Yahweh did not abandon David after what he did to kill Bathsheba's husband. Also, I realized that God is love (1 John 4:8), and perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18) so the feeling of fear I had was not from God. I believe that such sondemnation is of the enemy. That image of Samuel brought up by the harlot was not actually Samuel or from God. Yahweh does not turn away from those who seek him.
Yahweh also changes the message according to the person's choice. For example, when God tells Hezekiah he'll die, he didn't say, “if you repent,” he simply said “you will die, and not live.” However, when Hezekiah repented, he lived for another fifteen years.
Looking further into the chapter, Paul refers to those who “fall away.” Apostates, maybe?
I'm not trying to find ways around Heb. 10:26 in order to avoid the truth, no. But this passage seems to conflict with the other things in scripture. When there is a passage that seems to conflict, it's our understanding of that passage or others passages that cause it, I'm trying to fix my understanding of this. I'm also not trying to justify sin either. I'm just concerned that such passages have been used for condemnation and fear not from our Father that has driven people away from walking with the Father.

The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish believers. Some were going back to Judaism, not just under the law, but actually renouncing what Christ had done. This is blasphemy, the one sin that cannot be forgiven either in this age or the one to come. This is a prevelent teaching in the book of Hebrews. Once you deny Christ, there is no more sacrifice for sin, since the blood of bulls and goats are, and always were a type of the Christ the real deal.
a close friend of mine was a believer for a long time. This person also happens to be Jewish. This person renounced Christ, stopped believing. I am convinced that even if this person changed their mind with tears, and supplication, they could not become a believer again. You cannot sacrifice the Lord twice.October 22, 2006 at 6:00 pm#31019NickHassanParticipantHere is a thread on forgiveness.
