Quote (t8 @ June 12 2012,19:34) Quote (Stu @ April 21 2010,22:59) What actually, is intelligent design?
I will make it real simple for you.
It’s REALLY SIMPLE, not “real simple”. You could perhaps resist the slovenly language of the bible belt.Quote If you see 100 rocks sprawled randomly at the side of a river, they were likely deposited there by the river. If you see a group of rocks laid in a circular wall about 5 feet high, by reason of that pattern, it is highly unlikely that an unintelligent force like the river created that pattern and more likely that a person or persons (intelligent designer) put them there instead.
So what? Walls are built by humans, and other animals. What is your point?Quote With this most basic of irrefutable logic, you can go from there.
Sure, we can go over the same mindless moronic discussion we were having five years ago. Buses are designed, houses are designed, computers are designed, computers are coded by (sometimes) intelligent coders. So what?Quote However, I think you are likely stuck at this point and will argue in such a way as to prove that a circular wall of rocks can be put there by the river. Of course you will just use a different carefully crafted example so as to not sound as stupid.
I’m not arguing against what you said. I agree. But so what?

The only surprise to be had is from Atheists and those who for the first time see the light I suppose.
August 15, 2012 at 3:43 am#309323davidParticipantIve often wondered and admired at how puddles fit the holes they are in so perfectly. Another miracle that cannot be explained.
There was a study that just came out showing that in the past 6 years, athiests as a group have increased by 500%, going from 1% to 5% in the US, if I remember. (Can someone find this study)

No surprises here. But I do appreciate your characterisation of atheists as being amongst those who have seen the light.

It all depends on what question you ask. Probably the actual rate of atheism / secular / non-belief in the US is about 15% but it could be that the New Atheists have raised consciousness to the extent that Americans are less averse to stating their non-belief out loud.Contrast that with New Zealand, where the trend evident in the census data is that we have now fallen below 50% of the population identifying as christian – and that is against a backdrop of immigration from countries where rates of christian belief are higher, for example the Pacific Islands.
