Quote (Stu @ Dec. 16 2010,15:54) Quote (Ed J @ Dec. 16 2010,15:10) Hi Stuart, You have it backwards, concerning killing the innocent.
Christians don't kill, because they know there is retribution.
And Atheists do kill, because they 'think' there is no retribution.God bless

Fear of retribution or otherwise is not my motivation for acting ethically. I like to think I do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.Would you murder if there was no commandment not to? Of course not, this is facile thinking.

Hi Stuart,Were not talking about why you or I don't kill?
Were talking about people that want to kill,
why they do or don't commit the murder.God bless

People who want to commit murder suffer from some variation of abnormal brain activity. Many people who end up killing another person never intended murder but were not able to control their own anger, a common situation in domestic violence that ends in homicide. Most people who kill because they intended it do so because their brains aren't working like yours or mine.
Divine retribution or divine approval never comes into it, except in the case of people who are religiously motivated to murder, for example the so-called “visionary” killers who feel they are mandated by either god or the devil, and “mission-oriented” killers who see themselves as ridding the world of evil.

December 16, 2010 at 11:45 pm#229071princess of the kingParticipantAh, but does murder and kill mean the same thing?
However the person or persons must be out of the womb to be considered murdered or killed. Isn't that correct Stuart.
