I am formerly of the catholic faith. I am now learning about the bible and what it really teaches. I wonder about the hail Marys and the our Fathers being repeated so many times. Didn't Jesus tell his followers not to repeat prayers? Where did this kind of thing come from anyway? Why are millions of people doing this when their own bible says they shouldn't? How do they justify it?

One more question: Why wasn't Jesus baptized as a baby as is the custom nowadays? Shouldn't we model our baptisims after Christ's example? Who said at Christ's baptisim, “Behold this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased”.

A lot of people don't really care what the Bible says, Ruko.
For a Catholic, tradition is just as important as the Bible, more even.
But that's not how it should be.

Everything you have said demands an answer.
    Keep on asking, Ruko.

At Jesus' baptism, the Father said that of his son. He was proud and pleased, as any father would be.

    Hi ruko,
Traditional churches baptise babies because they do not understand salvation. Baptism is not a magic ceremony that changes people who do not believe and have not become repentant and sought the forgiveness of God no matter what age they are.
1Cor 7 also tells us children are covered by the faith of the parents so if the parents know they have been put right with God they would not countenance such folly.
The worst aspect is that is is a false baptism and many are deceived by their parents telling them of their infant baptism and they believe that they are saved and do not go through the gate.

    Hi ruko,
Yes Jesus did tell us not to chant repetitious prayers as the pagans do. These things have come into the traditional churches from paganism as with the prayers to the 'saints'[which is blatantly evil]
But he also said to 'seek first the kingdom of God 'and all else would be added to us.
God only becomes our Father, and we become His sons, and  can only approach His Throne in prayer once we are reborn into the Son.
