Hi,
One of the universal features of the new gospels is that there is no mention of the need for repentance. Those who teach that all we have to do is :accept Jesus, or
invite him into our heart, or
be baptised in the Spirit or
just baptised in water.
are deceived.“Unless you repent you will all likewise perish”
Paul said in Acts 26.19f
” ..I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and to the gentiles, that they should REPENT and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance”June 29, 2006 at 9:28 pm#21035NickHassanParticipantHi,
There is no forgiveness without repentance. Without the forgiveness of God we cannot be sprinkled in the blood of the Lamb, garbed in the robes of righteousness of His Son and approach Him in prayer. Repentance is one of the foundations of our faith as Paul showed in Hebrews 6.1f
Lk 24 40f
“..'Thus it is written that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the dead on the third day; and that REPENTANCE FOR FORGIVENESS OF SINS should be proclaimed in his name to all the nations beginning from Jerusalem”June 29, 2006 at 9:45 pm#21036NickHassanParticipantHi,
2Peter 3.9
“The Lord is not slow about His promises, as some count slowness, but is patient towards you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to REPENTANCE”I think the story about Simon Magus in Acts 8 shows us that all of us do not realise what we need to repent of completely and have to plead for ongoing forgiveness as other idols and attitudes are shown up in us by the work of the Spirit too.
June 29, 2006 at 10:51 pm#21049NickHassanParticipantHi,
Acts 17.30
“Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should REPENT because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a man who He has apponted having furnished proof to all men by raising him from the dead”The Loving Father, seeing his hungry smelly son turning back from his pigsty of a life, to come and be forgiven being clothed in Christ, comes out to meet him rejoicing …as also do the angels at one sinner who repents.
July 4, 2006 at 2:39 am#21165NickHassanParticipantHi,
We hope God uses us to show the major issue between God and men is false teaching such as trinity. It is worse than common garden godlessness as it actually insults God.
Religious men, those steeped in theology and spiritual knowledge, as in the time of Christ, find it hardest to see their need to repent.
Those who claim to see do not want spiritual eyes unto eternity.July 4, 2006 at 2:43 am#21166ProclaimerParticipantJohn prepared the way for the messiah. His was a baptism of repentance. After this the people were to be baptised into Christ.
Repentance came first. Without it, everything else is but a mere ritual.

Amen t8,many in Christendom don't even preach the need for repentance. Jesus said, “unless you repent you too will perish”. now repentance isn't cleaning ourself up as i've heard some say. If that's the case, then we don't need God. Repentance is becoming aware of your sin and making a conscious decision to turn away from it. You'd be suprised to know just how many people who don't realize their sinfulness. Many will say that they are “good guys”. But our Lord said that there is only one that is good, God.
July 4, 2006 at 9:20 pm#21200ProclaimerParticipantTrue Woutlaw.
I think that it is better to be a sinner than a sinner posing as a righteous person. How boring is it to pretend to be righteous? Might as well enjoy the friuts of sin even if they are for a season. Will not both types of sinners perish anyway?
God prefers us to be hot or cold. That means he prefers 'cold' over 'luke warm'.
July 14, 2006 at 2:31 am#22149NickHassanParticipantHi,
If Paul met with men today what would he say?
I think he would tell men they are pagan and have not received the true gospel.
He would take his bible and explain the gospel of Jesus as the Son of God from both testaments and tell all to repent of the false ideas about trinity and other nonbiblical matters.
He would explain that these too are sin and an offense to the Father.
He would decry all the false religion and false doctrines of men and insist that all repent of any involvement in this as evil too.
Then if any listened he would baptise them in the name of Jesus Christ and lay hands on all to receive the Spirit.September 20, 2006 at 10:41 pm#28824NickHassanParticipantHi,
I feel this is a vital issue. Men come to Christ with their doctrinal base already set and they do not allow the Spirit to teach them from scripture. Their fields are not ploughed and they plant among weeds.September 25, 2006 at 3:17 am#29164NickHassanParticipantHi,
Simon magus in Acts 8 was a sorceror, a magician, who believed and was baptised yet because of a lack of repentance was still found to be full of sin and bitterness and not yet clean enough to be filled with the Spirit of God. He, who was called the Power of God, seemed to want the real power of God to use in his commercial evil enterprises.God responds to our faith and plea for forgiveness in water baptism, according to the repentance He sees and His cleansing by the blood is according to His will and not ours.
It is not sacramental magic.
September 25, 2006 at 1:48 pm#29187SultanParticipantExcellent topic. In the new testament (though not exclusively) repentance is the prerequisite for salvation. John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way for Jesus through a baptism of repentance. In Matthew 3 John's first words were repent, and in Mathew 4 after Jesus' overcoming Satan His first words of His ministry was repent. Without repentance we will all likewise perish (Luke 13:1-5). Many say if we just “receive Jesus in our hearts” we will be saved, but the Bibles does not say that. Jesus says, “Not eveyone that calls me Lord shall enter the Kingdom, but He who does the will of my father” (Matt 7:21). If there is faith, but no works it is dead. If ther is confession, but no works it is dead. If there is salvation with no repentance, it is dead.

Repentance is not found in any of the new ways men have devised that makes them think they have established a relationship with the Father. It is unwise to sow in weedy soil.November 19, 2006 at 4:28 am#32660NickHassanParticipantHi Oxy,
As sultan asked what role does repentance play in salvation as you see it?November 20, 2006 at 12:40 am#32711SultanParticipantNick,
In all of the “So called Churches” repentance is rarely mentioned, and where it is mentioned it is even more rarley practised. If men began to repent and confess their sins (Mark 1:3-5), many would have to step down from their so-called pastorates and get their own homes and families in order. Many prefer to walk in darkness because their deeds are evil, and have created a system for salvation similar to the Pharisees. Walk down the isle, slip up your hand, repeat after me the sinner's prayer, receive Jesus in your heart, etc. All of the above of course are not in the Bible, but then again with all of the theologians and doctors; who needs the Bible.
November 20, 2006 at 1:12 am#32714NickHassanParticipantHi Sultan,
Amen.
Untilled soil must grow thistles and thorns.heb 6
” 7For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;8but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.”
It is like to the curse on the land of Gen 3
” Cursed is the ground because of you;
In toil you will eat of it
All the days of your life.
18″Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
And you will eat the plants of the field;
19By the sweat of your face
You will eat bread,
Till you return to the ground,
Because from it you were taken;
For you are dust,”The Spirit of Christ sanctifies the vessel of man and the curse on the land will be removed in the reign of Christ.

February 14, 2007 at 9:33 pm#40356NickHassanParticipantHi,
Did Jesus love the Pharisees?
Yes.
Was his vehement approach to them successful?
Yes.Acts 15
“5But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. “But they carried their legalism into the Way and it caused a few problems.
Repentance is a gift from God.
Acts 11
“15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”
But none fully repents as none really knows his own heart.
Thus the sanctifying work of the Spirit continues in us.1 Corinthians 6:11
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.February 18, 2007 at 4:43 am#40596JamieParticipantThe first words Peter said was REPENT of sin Acts 2, the next question is… what is sin according to the Bible definition? Sin is the breaking of the law-ie torah 1 John 3:4, so one must repent of breaking Yahweh's laws, for obedience to Yahweh's laws is what proves our faith in Him and Yah'shua, which was the Israelites problem according to Paul in the book of Hebrews.
