Hi,
Christ did not come to start a new religion.
Religion is defined in James.
It expresses faith
Practically.Jas 1
” 22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
June 12, 2007 at 1:46 am#55333Not3in1ParticipantI just said this in another thread, but it fits nicely here:
If religion is that set of dogmatic truths, moral laws, and ritual practices, which human beings engage in, in order to have the proper relationship with God, then (imho) Jesus is the most anti-religious figure in all of history.
June 12, 2007 at 5:40 am#55363Not3in1ParticipantA quote from the Rev. Jared Sparks, who was a Victorian era Unitarian (that sounds funny, huh?).
“Those persons who have bound themselves to a written system of faith, in the shape of a creed or confession, which they are resolved never to forsake as in the case of many clergymen, church-members and so on; such persons cannot possibly expect or hope to gain anything by examining their opinions, and comparing them with those of others, and with the standard of the Scriptures.
To change a single sentiment would be a violation of their covenant, and a crime. What conscientious man will allow the suspicion to enter his mind that anything can be wrong in a faith, which, in the most solemn manner, he has pledged his veracity to support? He may defend his adopted creed, and rally round the system to which he is chained, but he cannot go a step further.
He cannot open his mind to a new truth, nor suffer himself to concede, than an opponent's argument can have any weight, or his opinions any claim to respect. This would be to distrust the grounds of his own faith, and to betray the guilt of doubting, where he has made a sacred engagement never to doubt.
What advantage can a person, thus bound and cramped, derive from an examination of religious subjects? The public may be benefited by knowing his sentiments, and his mode of explaining and defending them; but, as for himself, his journey will be a circle; he will end where he began.”

Those who have already read this, forgive me but I thought it would be nice to include here and one other place. It's such a great quote and it speaks into religion and creeds so well.June 17, 2007 at 10:06 pm#55701NickHassanParticipantHi,
True religion
is love.June 17, 2007 at 11:40 pm#55706NickHassanParticipantHi,
The witness God wants us to show in the world is that of love. Human religion, with it's harsh legalism, gives God an undeserved bad name. We are loved and forgiven and our lives here should show that peace and joy that flows from this. Likewise the extraordinary tolerance God has allowed us should be allowed by us to our brothers.1Peter 2
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
1Peter 3
8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
13And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
14But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
1Peter 4
1Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
8And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

James defined true religion.

All doom and gloom?
Nick.You should study the prophesies.
He is coming with His fierce anger.
The earth will reel to and fro like a drunkard.Jeremiah 25:34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
THEY ARE BAPTISED WITH WATER AND SAVED MIND YOU.
Jeremiah 25:35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.
OH LORD LORD,WE ARE SAVED!!.
Jeremiah 25:36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture.
BUT THEY SAY: NO HARM WILL COME TO US; FOR GOD IS WITH US.
Jeremiah 25:37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
I DONT SEE HIM SMILING DO YOU?
Jeremiah 25:38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
FIERCE ANGER, MEANS FIERCE ANGER TO ME.

Should you fear?May 16, 2014 at 4:42 am#382549NickHassanParticipantHi,
Human religion is very popular.
The similarities between all the different types are less than the differences are.A building. A set time to meet. Leaders with their garb. Music and incense in some. Set formats.
They are all different from what happened at the time of Acts.
Why?Of course they are all of the god of this world
