2besee, my view is that like any generation, they take what they have inherited and take it to the next level or explore it further. But the danger in that is that they can not only stray from the path, but can be more easily misquoted.

I think the Trinity Doctrine developed from the original understanding that theos was also divine nature (The Word was theos) and once they lost sight of that, then The Word became God himself and then once that was accepted, Mary became the Mother of God and so on.

I think some of these early Fathers as they are called had some very good insights into scripture. But Greek Philosophy and Pagan ideas crept in once the Greeks and other pagans became Believers.

We already had a prelude of that with the circumcision debate with Peter and Paul regarding non-Jews.

I agree. Which is why it is best to avoid any “Early Church Fathers” writings, IMO, at least regarding Christiology.

A lot can be learnt from them though in regards to things such as baptism, etc,

Actually their writings also serve as being useful for a different reason too. Some verses have crept into some texts, and often these guys would debate subjects and use all the best scriptures they could muster.

Yet some Trinity scriptures we see in the AKJV were not used by supporters of that doctrine suggesting that they were not in their Bibles because they would almost certainly have quoted them if they were. The baptismal formula and Comma Johanneum for example if I remember rightly.

And it is interesting to hear what they say about the Logos, because the Logos is such a foreign concept to our Western Civilisation.

From what I read, most of these writers view the Logos as being in God, then with God and then God creating all through the Logos who later became flesh.

Yeah, even though I speak English, I am from New Zealand, so our English is different. All our vowels seem to have moved along one space.

    Fish becomes Fush
    Sex becomes Six
    Advantage becomes Advuntage

True story, but then we are on the edge of the world. Maybe even not of this Earth.

It's actually sux to most English speaking people.

When I lived in Australia, they would love crafting questions to get you to say 'six' and then they would laugh. So I quickly caught on to that, so instead of saying 'six', I would say half a dozen.
