Hi everyone
Does anyone know anything about Nuero Lingquistic Programing, known as NLP. Someone I know has become a practitioner, I havn't seen her for a few years, but I know she gave her life to God 10 years ago, and has left to follow after false teaching. I have done a quick search but havn't found an answer from a Christian view. So if any of you have ever come across it, I'd appreciate information. Thanks guys..Love DebraNovember 4, 2006 at 8:56 am#31709NickHassanParticipantHi debra,
From Wikipedia
“Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a set of techniques, axioms and beliefs, that adherents use primarily as an approach to personal development. NLP was influenced by the ideas of the New Age era as well as beliefs in human potential. The initial ideas of NLP were developed around 1973 by Richard Bandler, a student, and John Grinder, a professor of linguistics, in association with the social scientist Gregory Bateson. The term “Neuro-linguistic programming” denotes a set of models and principles meant to explore how mind and neurology (neuro), language patterns (linguistic), and the organization of human perception and cognition into systemic patterns (programming) interact to create subjective reality and human behaviors.Based upon language patterns and body language cues derived from the observations of several therapists[1], NLP practitioners believe that our subjective reality drives beliefs, perceptions and behaviors, and that therefore behavior change, transforming beliefs, and treatment of traumas is possible.[1][2][3] Techniques distilled from these observations were described by the original developers as “therapeutic magic,” with NLP itself described as 'the study of the structure of subjective experience”.[4][5] They are predicated upon the principle that all behaviors (whether excellent or dysfunctional) are not random, but have a structure which can be understood [3][6] NLP has been applied to a number of fields such as sales, psychotherapy, communication, education, coaching, sport, business management, interpersonal relationships, as well as less mainstream areas such as seduction and spirituality. NLP is often considered controversial and is at times criticized as unproven or pseudoscientific[14] by those who watch for fraud, exaggerated claims and unethical practices.[15] Amongst both practitioners and skeptics there is considerable variation about what is regarded as NLP and what is not.”

Thanks for the info. Because it is about personal developement, I'm assuming it would be a form of worshipping oneself.November 4, 2006 at 7:27 pm#31720davidParticipantJust a day ago I was flipping though “NLP for dummies” in a book store. The Bible condemns binding others with a spell. I'm not sure how some view that, whether hypnosis would fit into binding others with a spell or not.
The eye accessing cues are interesting. It seems be largely about creating rapport with people. With the eye cues, you can tell what a person is thinking about, or actually what they are doing with their mind. If they're looking up to the left for example, they're remembering a visual image. If they look up to the right, they're creating one. To the right, auidotry remembering, to the left, auditory creating (like trying to think what to say) Kinistetic to down to the left, I think. aNd digital or talking to yourself down to the right. I may have this completely wrong.
This can be used because if a person is looking to the left and right and not up, then they think in an auditory manner and you can build rapport with them by speaking to them in that manner, saying things like: I “hear” what you're saying. That “sounds” right to me, as opposed to saying: I “see” what you're syaing, etc. That's all I really got from the book.
There are certain tenants that NLP is made up of. It is based on the work of a hypno therapist and a pychologist I think.
I believe the famous Anthony Robins books contain NLP.
I really don't know too much about it, but I found the eye accessing cues interesting, how the mind works with the eyes.david
