Hi Casey.
Also praying.
November 29, 2006 at 4:54 pm#33366Casey S Smith 29ParticipantThanx for ALL prayers. I really do not know how to pray for her. She has a “desire” to want to love Jesus but I am not sure if she is truly born again. I asked the Holy Spirit to help intercede for me and give me wisdom in what to stand in the gap for and what you and all my fellow believers to intercede for. I want her to be healed and live…for her husband (my daddy in law), my wife and the rest of her kids and family. None of us want to lose anyone, even the people we dislike the most we do not wish ill fate and death for them; much more our loved ones that are dear to our hearts.
My father in law recently lost his dad and he is a nonbeliever…he was and I still believe very angry with God. He is lost but not without hope of receiving mercy and the forgiveness Yeshua wsa born and paid the price for. But, if he lost his wife, I fear the anger he would have for our Father could harden his heart intensivly but, as we all know, God could redeem even Osama Bin Laden.
I want her to be healed but my delima is this: her necessity to being born again takes precedense over healing – obviously. Could this healing be Glory given to God and lead her unto Him? Or could the certainty of leaving the land of the living be more compelling. I do not want her to die at all. I just want her to be reborn above anything else.
Thank you for your time in reading this and prayers.
November 30, 2006 at 6:41 pm#33421Casey S Smith 29ParticipantUpdate from my wife:
Dr. Lockaby gave mom some medicine to slow her heart beat down and gave her some medicine to make her stop smoking. He said the first week she is going to still smoke and after that the cigs are going to taste disgusting and she wouldn't want anymore. He referred her to a vascular specialist to get some more testing done. If the AAA is at 6 or more she has to have surgery…but, the surgeries normally don't turn out well and lots of times they rupture and cant stop the bleeding and you know….
He said it is hereditary so all her kids need to be checked and be screened for it. There is pretty much nothing you can do except risk surgery. So you live with it and hope it doesn't rupture or have surgery and pray it doesn't rupture during surgery… so please pray.
November 30, 2006 at 9:00 pm#33427Casey S Smith 29ParticipantApparently everone has left this thread but just in case…it seems that people are getting sick and dying all around me. I just found out two hours ago that one of the close friends I grew up with (there were about 10 of us for eight years) has a terminal illness where his body has cautusions (don't know the spelling) and twitches like Parkinsons and his head is stuck in a sideways position. They are going to go into his brain and place some wires in it to shock it or something.
Then just now I received this e-mail from my wife:
Uncle Floyd went to the doctor to get some mole on his shoulder looked at. It looked red and bumpy. He went and had it removed and the doctor told him it was Melanoma and was already in his blood stream and they are estimating 5 years or less to live. After it is in the blood stream the cancer can land anywhere and from there causes many problems… Nobody but mom knows. He hasn't told anyone yet. He has known for a few months but isn't telling anyone until after the holidays. It just keeps coming… it's like it never ends…

One of my favorite scriptures is “what satan meant for evil, God meant for good”. When we put our trust in God it is marvelous what He can do (sometimes it does not seem to be what we want, but it would be if we could see the big picture). Be encouraged my brother.
WmDecember 1, 2006 at 2:15 am#33459942767ParticipantCasey:
James 5:14 states: “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him”.
Please show this scripture to your mom. God will be true to His Word if we do what He has said.
I am praying that the Lord will see you through whatever trials come your way.
Love in Christ
December 1, 2006 at 4:34 pm#33486Casey S Smith 29ParticipantThanx you two. Seeking Truth: Yes, I agree whole heartedly that what Satan means for harm God means for good/Glory. My faith in God's Providence and Sovereingty has been tested, tried, put through the fire, burned, scrutinized and put on trial by many – in the end, it stands tall against man's ideologies.
I place my trust that God knows what He is doing. That does not neglect us to pray, lay hands on the sick and send forth the Gospel.
He is a truck driver and his residence is in Arkansas. He has been through a lot. His wife died when a 12 gauge shot through her while they were skeet shooting just three years ago and he has never recovered from that incident. So when he is here he can't stay long which will make it hard to get him to a Church and have people pray and lay hands on him…not to mention I don't think he is a believer.
In regards to my mother in law and her heart, it will be a little easier.
Now for my friend, he was working in Italy and is not in Houston living with his brother so they can take care of him. I am going to drive down there and get him after December to let him stay with my wife and I for a few weeks or so. I think then I will get him into a Church. It is quite difficult but as Gabriel told Mary, “with God nothing is impossible…”
We went to Church camp for three summers with his grandparents Nazarene Church. He believed everything he heard and believed in God and Scripture. He told me everytime though that he didn't want to make that change. Nazarenes place sanctification progressing to perfection on this side of Heaven so the legalism was engrained in his mind. When he grew older and his grandparents got sick he lost any hope or idea in God. To add fuel to the fire he is a physics genius and relies on science at the expense of any sort of “god”…
Again, thanks for your encouragement and prayers to all!

February 8, 2007 at 2:43 am#39474davidParticipantHistorian Kenneth Scott Latourette wrote: “Still another set of charges held Christianity up to ridicule for its recent origin and contrasted it with the antiquity of its rivals [Judaism and the Greco-Roman pagan religions].” (A History of the Expansion of Christianity, Volume 1, page 131)
In the early second century C.E., Roman historian Suetonius called Christianity “a new and mischievous superstition.”
Tertullian attested that the very name Christian was hated and that Christians were a disliked sect.
Speaking of the way officials of the Roman Empire viewed Christians in the second century, Robert M. Grant wrote: “The basic view was that Christianity was simply an unnecessary, possibly a harmful, religion.”—Early Christianity and Society.Opponents called it “the sect of the Nazarenes” or just “this sect.”—Ac 24:5; 28:22.
“Truly as regards this sect it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.” (Acts 28:22)Interestingly, some of the Jews asked whether the activity of Jesus Christ represented “a new teaching.” (Mark 1:27) Later, some Greeks thought the apostle Paul was introducing a “new teaching.” (Acts 17:19, 20) It was new to the ears of those who were hearing it, but the important thing was that it was the truth, in full harmony with God’s Word.
February 8, 2007 at 2:43 am#39476davidParticipant“Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am Jehovah; and besides me there is no saviour.”
—Isaiah 43:10, 11, (American Standard Version.)Jehovah God had witnesses on earth during the thousands of years before Jesus was born, streching all the way back to faithful Abel. After Hebrews chapter 11 lists some of those men of faith, Hebrews 12:1 says:
“So, then, because we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”Jesus said before Pontius Pilate: “For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.” (John 18:37)
He is called “the Faithful Witness,” and “the faithful and true witness.” (Rev 1:5; 3:14) Of whom was he a witness? He himself said that he made his Father’s name manifest. He was the foremost witness of Jehovah.—John 17:6.
Jesus told his disciples: “You will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon you, and you will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the most distant part of the earth.”—Acts 1:8.
Hence, the one group today telling the good news of Jehovah’s Kingdom by Christ Jesus in over 230 lands feel that they properly refer to themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses. The true Christians have always been an organized group, as they would have to be to accomplish the commission given them by Christ. (Mt 28:19,20; 24:14)
February 8, 2007 at 2:44 am#39477davidParticipantWhile there are many reluctant to even use God’s name, there is one group that is not.
ACTS 15:14
“Syḿeon has related thoroughly how God for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name.”Ask yourself: How does this scripture fit me?
Are you part of the group that is “a people for his name?” (Acts 15:14)
Are you “called by my [Jehovah’s] name”? (Isaiah 43:5-7)MICAH 4:5
“For all the peoples, for their part, will walk each one in the name of its god; but we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever.”February 8, 2007 at 2:46 am#39478NickHassanParticipantHi david,
Then even if they know no power they should at least preach only what the bible preaches.
Jesus is Michael is not found there-that is if serving and obeying God, and not the JW organisation is the priority.February 8, 2007 at 3:11 am#39491davidParticipantAsk yourself, ‘What religious group is noted for sticking closely to God’s Word, even when its teachings differ from the beliefs of most people? Who stress the importance of God’s personal name, even using it to identify themselves? Who optimistically point to God’s Kingdom as the only solution to all human problems? Who uphold Bible standards of conduct, at the risk of being considered old-fashioned? What group is noted for having no paid clergy, all of its members being preachers? Who are praised for being law-abiding citizens, even though they refrain from taking part in politics? Who lovingly spend time and money in helping others to learn about God and his purposes? And despite all of these positive things, who are still looked down on, ridiculed, and persecuted?’
February 8, 2007 at 3:14 am#39492NickHassanParticipantHi david,
Human emblems do not impress God nor does approximating His teachings. Cuts no ice to seek to impress Him with man's tools. The only use we are to God is to let His Spirit use us and be vessels for His work as Christ was.February 8, 2007 at 3:36 am#39495charityParticipantPerceived

February 8, 2007 at 4:30 am#39499kenrchParticipantDavid,
Why isn't the 1st century church didn't call itself the church of Jehovah? Instead they simply called themselves the church of God.
1Co 1:2 unto the church of God which is at Corinth, even them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their Lord and ours:
Seems that if it was that Important that they would have called themselves church or witness of Jehovah.
Is it because the Jews didn't want to use the name Jehovah for fear of repetition or taking the name of the Lord in vain.
Still you would think that Jehovah who said He would call a people for His name would want those people to call themselves Jehovah's people. Could it maybe mean a people for Himself (name).
Are the children of God different than the children of Jehovah who IS God?
