    Hi,
One of the earliest “leaders” following the apostles seemed already to have moved from following faith into espousing human leadership and sacramentalisation.

    From wikipedia
“The letters of Ignatius have proved to be important testimony to the development of Christian theology, since the number of extant writings from this period of church history is very small. They bear signs of being written in great haste and without a proper plan, such as run-on sentences and an unsystematic succession of thought. Ignatius is the first known Christian writer to put great stress on loyalty to a single bishop in each city, who is assisted by both presbyters (elders/priests) and deacons. Earlier writings only mention either bishops or presbyters, and give the impression that there was usually more than one bishop per congregation.

Ignatius stressed the value of the Eucharist, calling it a “medicine of immortality” (Ignatius to the Ephesians 20:2). The very strong desire for bloody martyrdom in the arena, which Ignatius expresses rather graphically in places, may seem quite odd to the modern reader. An examination of his theology of soteriology shows that he regarded salvation as one being free from the powerful fear of death and thus to bravely face martyrdom.”

    Hi,
WJ quotes Ignatius in support of his trinity theory.

Should we regard his teachings as having equal validity?

If you are talking about some of Ignatius' beliefs other than trinity, then yes.

Why other than Trinity when the NT clearly calls Yeshua God?

    Hi WJ,
    Jesus should be your Lord.
    If you are following him.
    He has a God too.

Do not be daring or presumptuous to judge Ignatius with your great swelling words of pride; he was a righteous man, and who are you to judge?
Where is the fruit of your labor in Christ?
Where are the souls won? Where are the edified people who have benefited from your vain speaking?

    Enoch 46:6, 7
“…And he shall put down the countenance of the strong,
And shall fill them with shame.

And darkness shall be their dwelling,
And worms shall be their bed,
And they shall have no hope of rising from their beds,
Because they do not extol the name of the Lord of Spirits.

7 And these are they who judge the stars of heaven,

    Titus 1:10,11,13
… For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, espcially they of the circumcision.. (who desire first place)
    Whose mouths must be stopped,
…Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;”

    Acts 8:23
“For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.”

    Hi,
We should not assume that any man is of God but let their fruit defend them.

    Hi H,
The words of such men are not of the scriptures and so we should see if they align with them.
We can learn from them good things as we learn from you.

Ignatiurs, marytered in rome, tore apart lions, what was left , per say, was kept…..started the whole relics & veneration trend.

then came polycarp, martyered also, quite similiar to the one they call jesus, betrayed, predicted his death, prayer of 'will be done' rode on a donkey, burned at the stake, no flame touched him, was stabbed and a dove was released from his side

the thought of being a martyer appeals to many, why don't know……. will come soon enough.

To judge another man's walk with Christ is not yours to judge Nick. Oh, I forgot, you think that the Father has committed all judgment to you so that men may honor you as they honor the Father.

Sorry I forgot that you are the judge Nick.

    hmmm TT.
So are we advised to check the fruit by our Master?
Men are so gullible and love to follow other men.

You offer the words of Ignatius as if he was anointed.
