    Hi,
Surely modifying the message to make it more easy to take is humanism?
The message is about salvation from the wrath of God.

    Matthew 3:7
And having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming about his baptism, he said to them, `Brood of vipers! who did shew you to flee from the coming wrath?

    Luke 7:35
and the wisdom was justified from all her children.'

    Hi,
This is a very popular substitute for obedience to God.

Trying to help men is not said to save anyone's soul apart from the exceptions shown in Mt25[mercy to the brothers]

The first and most important Commandment is shown to be towards God and love towards men is shown in the second.

Seek ye first the kingdom as our own righteousness can only be as filthy rags. Nobody now can boast of works unto salvation.

I was surpised to see this thread had 40 hits but only three responses.  Then, I was even more surprised to see that the three responses were from the same person who started the thread – Nick!

Secular humanism has appeal to atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, empiricists, rationalists, skeptics and materialists, as well as to some Unitarians, Buddhists, Hindus and Confucians.[

“Freethinkers”…..goodness, doesn't God want us to use the brain he gave us to think?

Nick, there are some pretty convincing arguments against the Bible being the word-for-Word-of God.  Are we not to “prove all things” and what if we prove that some of what is contained in this book is not true (ie; 1 John 5:7)?  We must be able to think outside the box and come to some conclusions.

    Quote
    28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

Geewhiz, this describes most of us here!

Mandy! You quote 1 John 5:7 Do you know tht this verse was added on. It is not in the Original Transcript.

Nick…..there are things written in the bible that were not in the original scriptures, retaining God in our knowledge does not mean we need to believe everything we read as absolutely true and accurate. It's almost impossible to translate one language into another without error, not to mention the scriptures were influenced by trinitarian idology's . I agree with Mandy, God gaves us brains and we need to use them.

    IMO…………gene

    Amen!

I think there is fear in leaving the teachings of Mother Church.  There is fear attached to the possibility that the bible is flawed.  You have to be able to stand back and take a good, long look at the words objectively.  Most folks do not have this ability.  Fear rules their obedience instead of loving devotion.  I speak from experience on this one.

I have no fear that the Bible might have been tampered with and if we take most of it, it is the Word of God. So I would not pass it by so quickly. The Bible has served me just find.
If we can prove more then one verse and compare it with another and if they match, bingo.
    Peace and Love Irene

Though God can use the bible to speak to us, (here a little there a little) ,it is Gods spirit that leads us.
Spirit and truth love and thought. Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear (of the heart)?

The bible has led many to God though, it is a very important tool.

It introduces us to God and the son of God for those especially who have never known.

    Hi,
The worship of man and his thoughts and sciences is a poor and powerless substitute.
Man cannot save others from the predicted fate of earth

    Hi,
The religion of men is focussed on man.
To leave the trinity behind but make a lesser god of Jesus is not progress.

    Hi,
This is frequently confused with true religion.
