I’m trying to give my life to God. I give it to him for 5 minutes then I take it back by looking at porn and sinning….HELP ME PLEASE! I’m shy with my religion, I basically keep it to myself. I want to have a beautiful wife with a kid and I want to be faithful to her, but I cant even give my life to God for 5 minutes… Can anyone give me tips on being a better person. I know I need to go to church but I’m too lazy. God forgive me. I’m going to start reading the bible too but its confusing, should I read a children’s bible instead? Thanks heaven.net!
peace and love

Please Forgive Me Do you ever pray? That is the first thing you should do. Then ask God for strenght and wisdom. And get of the couch and do something. No work, no eat.Peace and Love Mrs.
November 8, 2007 at 9:35 am#171732MorningstarParticipantI Think what would really help is to find some other strong believers and enter friendship and fellowship with them.
Iron sharpens Iron.
A word of caution though; don't place your faith in men. People will let you down all the time. Because, they are just as capable of sinning as you or I. Don't let the actions of another Christian hinder your relationship with God.
As for reading the bible, choose a version like the New International Version, Contemporary English Version, New Living Translation or the English Standar Version.
I suspect that you may be reading the King James Version. Which is fine, but yes it is far harder to understand.
Here is some of Paul's advice for staying the course and overcoming the world. I just passed his advice on:
Hebrews 10
22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
November 8, 2007 at 9:49 am#171733ProclaimerParticipantHey Please Forgive Me, you say that you give your life to God for 5 minutes and then you stuff it up and do something contrary to giving your life to God.
Let me put it this way Please Forgive Me.
When you give your life to serve God, you do it for the rest of your life. The fact that you stumble here and there, doesn't mean that you have to give up on your commitment to God does it?
When you sin, you have a covenant with God and he will forgive you if you are truly repentant. And how many times will he forgive you? 7 times? Try 70×7 and even much more than that.
It is normal as a man to have this conflict between the flesh and the spirit.
Anyway, lets have a look at Paul one of the greatest men who ever lived. This is what he says about himself:
Romans 7:18
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.But Paul also says this:
Romans 8:1
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,And John says this:
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. To understand this better, I encourage you to read this little piece of writing called How do you stop sinning?

Years ago when I had a struggle with pornography I visited this site: http://www.higher-calling.com/I knew the person who ran the site because they used the same portal software I used at one time.
If you are a teen you can try one of their affiliated sites: http://www.teensagainstporn.com/
November 8, 2007 at 6:42 pm#171736Not3in1ParticipantSexual “sin” is one of the best tools Satan has going. I'm not sure if masturbation is a sin in and of itself, but surely the thought process that goes along with porn and masturbation is something to be disturbed about in your spirit (which is why you are reaching out here).
God bless you as you seek God out. He loves you. He created you and understands our flesh is weak – that is why he sent his Son to die for us. We now have someone we can talk to and ask for help. IF you want help – it's yours. Our minds are willing, but our flesh is weak. Paul knew all about this.
Romans 7:21-25
So I find this law at work: when I want to do good, evil is right there with me.For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work with my members.
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Maybe Paul had a problem with women/masturbation? Who knows! It certainly sounds like he had some issues with sin at work “within his members” of his body. And then the guilt and shame that came along with it when he pronouced, “….what a wretched man I am!” So take encouragement from the Word of God – there is help in Jesus our Lord.

Will do.And remember, that what you are going through is quite normal. The flesh and the Spirit conflict.
Remember that when you are being led by the Spirit and doing anything in faith, then you are not sinning. But anything not of faith is sin.
So if you have the Spirit of God living in you, then you still have the sinful nature, but you also have the Spirit.
Remember that habits are hard to break, but the good news is that good habits can be hard to break too.
Just replace the bad habits with good ones. And also remember this:
Philippians 1:6
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. So God is working in our lives. He doesn't zap us with a wand that makes us perfect, he works in our lives and works toward completion. What we have right now is forgiveness and the Spirit who leads us.
We start as sinners and God perfects us. So don't beat yourself up, because God doesn't.

What 'porn' are you looking at? If its internet porn get a filtered service that prevents you from looking at it.No one can give you tips on being a better person. Since we are all made in G-d's image look to G-d.
Please realize that porn will skew your view of women. If you are addicted to it then you will expect the same of a woman you meet whether it is the 'reaction' or the 'attraction'. None of it is reality nor is anything out of Hollywood.
An addiction to porn can be devastating. Please seek help outside of this forum to help you combat your addiction. G-d can certainly help you but He also enables other men and women to help you in your road to recovery. Seek counseling. There are many free services available.

You have two goals here. Being a better person and giving your life to god. If you concentrate on the former you can forget about the latter.Stuart

But without the latter there isn't much need for the former.
If you had to choose one, which would it be? I think for the Jehovah's Witnesses who knock on my door the latter precludes the former.Stuart
