Interesting points. Was the jewish priesthood abolished? If it was then no one could be justified by the law because there would be no forgiveness? And their religion now would be false. What can others add?January 6, 2005 at 8:42 pm#5148AnonymousGuestQuote (Nick Hassan @ Jan. 06 2005,19:43) Welcome back MTA,

Correct, the old covenant priesthood was done away with by God. However in the New Covenant you are still exspected to keep ALL of Gods Commandments; including His Sabbath. Christians were unifide in keeping the sabbath until Constantine changed it to sunday.January 6, 2005 at 8:54 pm#5149NickHassanParticipantThanks but do you have scriptural proof?
January 6, 2005 at 9:14 pm#5150AnonymousGuestQuote (Nick Hassan @ Jan. 06 2005,20:54) Thanks but do you have scriptural proof?
There is historical proof that constantine changed the sabbath. The sunday sabbath is a commandment of a man.January 6, 2005 at 9:16 pm#5151NickHassanParticipantSorry I knew that. It was about the jewish priesthood?
January 6, 2005 at 11:07 pm#5154HumanParticipantMoses' laws no longer apply to us.
Chapter 7 of Acts actually explains a situation when the Christians started to argue if the Moses' laws still apply to non-jewish Christians who wanted to join their congregation. They called together all the apostles and, by consulting with God's spirit, decided the following:
Acts 15:28-29 “For the holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to YOU, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication. If YOU carefully keep yourselves from these things, YOU will prosper. Good health to YOU!”Also look at this – Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the Law, so that everyone exercising faith may have righteousness.
January 7, 2005 at 12:40 am#5156AnonymousGuestOK, thanks for clearing that one up Human. Im off to rob a bank now….. and I guess its OK to murder someone too?!?
January 7, 2005 at 2:18 am#5157NickHassanParticipantHi MM,
I think your saviour was hoping that if you have been born of the Spirit you would not need the external restrictions placed on you but would follow the Spirit's lead and produce good fruit?January 7, 2005 at 5:40 am#5158AnonymousGuestYes, thanks for the heads up nick.
January 7, 2005 at 7:15 am#5161RamblinroseParticipantAct 15:19 “Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God,
20 “but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood.
21 “For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”My understanding of these versus is that they are to attend to these requirements first but that when attending synagogue each Sabbath and hearing the Torah read, they will learn more of the law and make it part of their lives.
January 7, 2005 at 7:50 am#5162NickHassanParticipantHi Ramblinrose,
I tend to disagree. To me it puts in context the difficulty of moulding into one assembly the gentile converts, who have no experience of things jewish and the jews who have deep religious beliefs and habits.January 7, 2005 at 8:45 am#5163HumanParticipantModem Mouth,
Romans 3:20 Therefore by works of law no flesh will be declared righteous before him, for by law is the accurate knowledge of sin.
We cannot get saved by obeying to Moses laws. Its goal was to show what is sin and to prepare us for Jesus' coming. Of course, God did not just simply change his mind. Jesus summed up the Law into two basic commandments:
Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” He said to him: “‘You must love YHWH your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.”
Would you go and rob a bank if you were actually following Jesus?
January 7, 2005 at 8:53 am#5164ProclaimerParticipantTrue Human,
My take is that grace is greater than Law. Law is God's standard yes, but that can be superceeded by grace. Therefore are we thankful for the Law that condemns us or grace that forgives us?
I know where my vote lies and as Paul said himself, the greater the sinner the more reason to give thanx.
Thanks be to God who cares for us and saved us.
If Law was greater than grace, then there would be no grace for the Law came first.
January 20, 2005 at 5:03 am#5223K2marshParticipantWe Keep The Law, But We Are Not Supposed To Be Under The Law
Jesus is our sacrifice for sin, but the Law is not abolished.
The Ten Commandments Given to Moses by God.
Nothing has changed. They were all brought over in the New Testament.
Tell me which of the laws below do you think makes you justified by the law if you keep them and don't murder your neighbor, or lie to your neighbor? The laws are all in the Ten Commandments.
Yes we keep the law.
**
Matthew 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
**
Under the law of Christ. You are to turn the other cheek and show mercy. Mercy stops action reaction. If you do not turn the other cheek you do not love your neighbor. We are to return good for evil. The difference in the law of Moses and the Law of Christ is MERCY!!!
As God is merciful we are to be merciful. This is the mercy of the New Covenant. The mercy you give is the mercy you receive. Jesus is our example that we are to follow, and take up our cross daily and follow him. When you give mercy you are not under the law. That is because you love your neighbor as yourself.
*
You are not supposed to be under the Ten Commandments Law of Moses, but you keep the law because you love your neighbor as yourself. We are not supposed to be under the law, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. We are supposed to be under the law of mercy. The mercy you give is the mercy you receive.
That is keeping the law, but not being under the law. You give mercy because you love your neighbor as yourself. Why do you suppose it's called the New Covenant of Mercy? Your mercy that you give as you take up your cross and follow Jesus. If you do not love your neighbor and offend someone you are under the law and justice will be done. The law was made for the unrighteous.
**
Matthew 5: 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
**
Sin is anything that hurts you or your neighbor in any way. A harsh word. Hurting your neighbor, or what you eat.
If you think you are not under the law stand up!!!
***
Matthew 5:18
For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.GalatiaJesus fulfilled the law.
ns 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”Luke 24:44
Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”Now we are to fulfill the law
Romans 13:8
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.The Law of Moses
Through lack of understanding of the law your forefathers decided that we are not under the law. Through tradition this has been taught generation after generation.
If you hurt your neighbor you are under the law, and they will seek justice.
Jesus said:Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he
shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. The Law and Mercy
Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
What commandments? The Ten Commandments given to Moses by God.
Just what law are they under then if not the law of Moses? Christians are to keep all of the Ten Commandments. There is no other law. The law is written in the cosmos. Including the Sabbath day of rest. The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. The seventh day of rest was from the foundation of the world when God rested on the seventh day.Romans 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
The law brings wrath. When you hit some one you expect to get hit back. The Gentiles learned through experience, and kept the law even though they were not under the law.The law is good…Not made for a righteous man
1 Timothy 1:8-10 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy a profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is
contrary to sound doctrine;
If you sin and do evil you are under the law. If you lie you will be judged for your lie. As you do is as you will receive. For good or evil. An eye for an eye.
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.Galatians 5:16-25 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
This is amazing. When you meditate in the Spirit all the lusts are gone. If you are led of the Spirit you can return good for evil. Then you can turn the other cheek, and not oppose evil.
How Not to be Under The Law of Moses, but under the Law of Mercy
Resist not evil – turn the other cheek
Matthew 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.Matthew 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Do good to them that hate youMatthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
If you hurt your neighbor you are under the law, and they will seek justice. God works through people.
**
Under the law of Christ. You are to turn the other cheek and show mercy. Mercy stops action reaction. If you do not turn the other cheek you do not love your neighbor. We are to return good for evil. The difference in the law of Moses and the Law of Christ is MERCY!!!

The law was made for the unrightous.Ephesians 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
If you break the commandments given by God to Moses you are under the law
While you are in the flesh you will return evil for evil. Even though you want to do good you will do evil. Read: Romans 7:15For example when you try saying something nice about a person that has offended you, you return a nasty remark to them. If you are walking in the Spirit you are not under the law.
You keep the law because you love your neighbor as your self. That is you do not lie, steal, etc. from your neighbor. If you are walking in the Spirit and not the flesh, you are not under the law. When the body is dead you can return good for evil. You do not react to action reaction any more. You can turn the other cheek. You are to overcome evil with good. How to find out if you are under the law. If someone steals from you does that make you mad?
Or do you ask the person that stole from you how you could help him?
If you become mad at the person you do not love your neighbor as yourself. Therefore you are a lawbreaker, and you are under the law of justice. An eye for an eye.Regards, Karyl
January 25, 2005 at 7:37 pm#5243NickHassanParticipantHi K2Marsh,
So you say if you sin you go back under the OT law? That seems like a new teaching to me. God is not wishy washy surely? We are either under the Law or not. Surely we all sin still against each other so by your reasoning we are all still under the Law? It sounds as though we save ourselves after all and the work of Jesus was unnecessary?January 28, 2005 at 12:57 am#5257K2marshParticipantHi Nick Hassan and all,
Galatians 5:18
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
—-
So to be led of the Spirit you are not UNDER the law, but if you love your neighbor you keep the law. Being not under the law is to not respond to action reaction any more. The law brings wrath, and you no longer respond to wrath. If you have received the Holy Spirit and become perfect and you don't break the law you are not under the law.OTHERWISE YOU ARE A LAWBREAKER
============================================================
FOR REMISSION OF SINS THAT ARE PAST
Romans 3:25
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;=============================================================
Romans 3:31
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
—-
Keeping the Law and being Under the Law is two different things. We keep the law because we love our neighbor. We don’t murder, lie, steal, etc. That is because we have love for other people.
We are not Under the law when we fulfill the law.
======
1 Timothy 1
8But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 9knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,IF YOU BRAKE ANY LAW LISTED ABOVE YOU HAVE TRANSGRESSED THE LAW.
THEN YOU BECOME GUILTY OF TRANSGRESSING THE WHOLE LAW.Yes the law is still around.
Romans 7:1
Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? The law covers the Old Testament and the New Testament. It’s made for the unrighteous.

January 28, 2005 at 1:59 am#5259NickHassanParticipantHi K2M,
I believe we receive complete forgiveness when we are saved in Yeshua.
The Law was given to the Israelites and is not a covenant we were party to …..ever!
We are gentiles. The OT Commandments apply to the Jews.
We never had any relationship to God prior to our personal salvation but were children of wrath.
If we are not yet born again of water ond the Spirit we are still children of wrath hopeful only of mercy.
We are grafted onto the vine of Israel without ever being under the OT Law.
He has made one body of the two groups.January 28, 2005 at 8:59 pm#5266RamblinroseParticipantThe following link is to a debate about the law. It is a very interesting read of the two perspectives and covers a lot of areas currently being discussed.
January 29, 2005 at 12:32 am#5268K2marshParticipantHi Nick Hassan and all,
You believe we receive complete forgiveness when we are saved. IF YOU ARE SAVED.
That is if you have truly repented, and have received the Holy Spirit, and been born again. So you are forgiven of PAST SINS :
AS YOU DO IS AS YOU RECEIVE UNDER THE LAW
Matthew 6:14-16 (New King James Version)
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
——YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE GIVEN THE LAW TO BE UNDER THE LAW.
THE LAW IS FOR THE UNRIGHTOUS.
Romans 2:14
(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law,
—
Even though the Gentiles did not have the law they kept the law. By nature they love their neighbor. The law brings wrath and the Gentiles learned that when you smile you receive a smile, and when you frown you receive a frown. They learned through nature to smile, and love their neighbor.—–
SO BEING A GENTILE YOU DON’T THINK YOU ARE UNDER THE LAW THAT BRINGS WRATHIf what you say is true kill someone, and see what happens. You will be a transgressor of the law. An eye for an eye. YOU WILL BE JUDGED UNDER THE LAW. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
I really don’t think you know what keeping the law is. Everything in the Ten Commandments is covered with loving God and your neighbor. Now tell me why you don’t want to this.
——
Jesus kept the ten commandments law of Moses. Jesus was not UNDER the law, and we are not supposed to be under the law of Moses. To fulfill the law you must love your neighbor as your self. You keep the law because you love your neighbor. That is you don’t lie, steal and do things that would hurt your neighbor. If you do you are a lawbreaker and you are UNDER the law.
The law is from the foundation of the world.
========================================Matthew 7:23
And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
—-
The difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The people that do not keep the Ten Commandments have not entered in to the New Covenant.
—-=========================
THE LAW WAS MADE FOR THE UNRIGHTOUS
Whoever they be. Jews and Gentiles.
If you break the law you are under the law.WE SHALL BE SAVED FROM WRATH THROUGH HIM
Romans 5: 8, 9
8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.The law brings wrath. When you hit someone you expect to get hit back. Mercy stops action reaction. Love covers all sin.
Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments. If you don’t keep his commandments, and love your neighbor you are under the law, and the law brings justice. Some one will be mad at you and condemn you. You will be judged.
