No, I don't think God approved of that atrocity, but in that age people tended to see Gods hand in everything that happened in life, good or bad.

Every sin contains within it the seeds of its own destruction. We must face error and repent, receive correction and continue growing in grace.

I don't believe everything I read in the newspaper either and I sleep just fine at night.

Frankly, I truly do not understand how Christians or Jews or Muslims can sleep or be awake believing so many awful things about a mean, barbaric God of sadistic torture of his little children. Even I am more reasonable then that and I'm a mere mortal.

The knowledge is not there.
God is a good and loving God,but he is terrible to the wicked
