Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so.

This is the creation of God.
The word spoken and it is done.

Of course Jesus Christ is not the word spoken from the mouth of God as Ed would surmise

Enough time to pass so that vegetation sprouts including plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them. In other words, plants reproducing. This activity could have taken place for thousands even millions of years.
So why do some foolishly subject God to 24 hour days? Even in light of the following scripture:
‘But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.’
It’s not saying that a day is a thousand years, but it is like that. So it just means that a day to God can be very long compared to a day for us. And a very long time for God can be like a day. What is apparent then is that God is not like a man where he is subject to 24 hour days. In fact that belief is that foolish, that some believe it to be 24 hours before God even created the sun.
God never told us to throw away our intellect. He just doesn’t want us to rely on it for everything. First, we need revelation and every word of God. Then it is up to us to read and understand it. God gave us the ability to process his words and for us to gain understanding from it. So do not be foolish.
