Thanks, Irene. I'll pass that on to my hubby!

Happy Father's day to Georg, as well!

    Hi HN guys,
I was looking for a thread yesterday to say Happy Father's Day to ya'll but got distracted and called my Father instead. So I hope it was great. It is good that you have your mind set on studying the word of GOD for your family. My advice to fathers, I don't think that you will regret it if you speak a blessing to your wife and children daily. Do that for 30 days and see if you notice a difference. My experience is that fathers don't do that enough. A blessing means so much more coming from a dad, the spiritual leader of the family.

    God's love,
    Kathi

    Kathi,
Men were the spiritual leaders of the family under the Mosaic law. The Mosaic law with all its ordinances has passed away. The husband and the wife are equally the spiritual leaders of the home now. Paul's statement that the man is the head of the wife does not apply today. He said this when Moses was still in effect.

According to the new covenant principles that we are under today. Paul said that the wife was in subjection to the man “according to the law.” But we are NOT under the law now. We are under the new covenant. In the beginning the man and wife were equal. Then sin entered and law was introduced. Then the new covenant was put in place and the man and his wife (in Christ) have been restored to the original ideal.

    Nick,
The passage you refer to has nothing to do with what I am saying. Paul was talking about authority in the assembly of the saints. I am talking about the husband and the wife. Marriage was instituted BEFORE the woman was made under her husband. She was made under her husband on account of sin. Under the new covenant that equality between husband and wife has been restored.

The man is NOT the sole head of his family now. The man and the woman together are equal in their authority over their family. Your wife is your equal in all things.

    Hi TT,
Funny because it seems it refers to exactly what you were saying?

1 Corinthians 11:2-16 does not appear to reflect what you are saying.  It is pretty clear that Paul is setting up a hiearchy with men above women.  He makes no reference to the law but rather points to nature as testifying to this “natural order” of things.

It seems like you are trying to make your Christian beliefs more modern, by misreading some very clear passages.  For example, where does equality figure into this:

    1 Timothy 2:11-15:
Let a woman learn in silence with all submission.  And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.  For Adam was formed first, then Eve.  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.  Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

Note Paul's appeal to himself as an authority on this matter, and the fact that there is no reference to the law whatsoever.  It's Paul's “modern day” advice (or command, rather), to the churches of his time.

Embrace your true faith.  Silence a woman in your church for God today!  (Just be careful when doing this with your own wife, as it might cause trouble with the equality thing at home.)  :D
